  • The objective of ECMS(Environmentally Conscious Manufacturing Systems) is to consider environmental effects through the entire product life cycle from product development stage to design, manufacturing, supplying, using and disposing stage. Recently, environment-oriented recycling, reusing and manufacturing technologies have been researched actively in every engineering fields. In the field of chemical engineering, HHS(Health Hazard Scores) which classifies and analyzes hazardous materials in production processes has been presented. Metal cutting processes also have a lot of harmful factors, and especially hazardous components in cutting fluids have been known to have a bad effect on workers and working area. However, research works such as HHS have been little accomplished in metal cutting processes. In this research, a environmentally conscious machining process is presented by classifying hazardous components in cutting fluids, by using LCA(Life Cycle Assessments) and HHS method, and by evaluating environmental effects from cutting fluids.

선삭에서 절삭유 미립화 생성 메카니즘의 실험적 검증 (Experimental Verification of Aerosol Generation Mechanism for Cutting Fluid in Turning)

  • The mechanism of the aerosol generation generally consists of spin-off, splash, and evaporation/condensation. Most researchers showed some theoretical model for predicting the particulate size and generation rate without real cutting in turning operation. These models were based on the spin-off mechanism, and verified good for modeling the process. However, in real machining, the cutting tool destroys the spin-off process, and the majority of the mist is due to splash. In this paper, we show some experimental evidence that the aerosol generation mechanism in real machining should be explained with splash model as well as spin-off.

  • Recently, various efforts to make more speedy and precision machine tool to improve productivity and also various efforts to solve environmental problem are going on, so that dry cutting in manufacturing industry, which needs environmental conscious design and development of manufacturing technique, is becoming a very important assignment to solve. Because dry cutting does not use cutting fluid, we need other methods that can be used instead of cutting fluid, which does cooling, lubricating, chip washing, and anti-corrosion. Especially, because turning is a continuous work, the consideration of tool life and surface roughness due to continuous heat and poor lubrication is important. The purposes of this paper are the consideration of how well the compressed air can work instead of cutting fluid, and also the development of the method to select the optimum machining condition by the minimum numbers of experiments through the Taguchi method.

경사 열사이폰의 절삭유 냉각성능에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Cooling Performance of Cutting Oil of Inclined Thermosyphon)

  • An experimental investigation was performed to observe the cooling performance of cutting oil and the effect of inclination angle on the transport behaviour of a inclined thermosyphons with low integral-fins. Relatively high rates of heat transfer have been achieved by operating this manner. Water has been used as the working fluid. The inclimation angle of thermoryphon and the ratio of Reynolds number of cooling to hot fluid have been used as the experimental parameters. Heat transfer coefficients at the condenser and the evaporator are estimated from experimental results. The experimental results have been assessed and compared with existing theory. Good agreement with the theory of Yiwei has been found. The maximum heat flow rate in the thermosyphon proved to depend upon the inclination angle.

  • The purpose of this study is an evaluation of end mills to develop appropriate tools for the high speed machining. First of all, several flat end mills which are produced by different makers are selected to analyze the performances of the tools. Experimental works are also executed to measure cutting force, tool wear and surface roughness for different cutting conditions. And then the results are compared and analyzed for developing optimal cutting tool in the high speed condition. Especially, analysis about tool wear is introduced in this research.

  • As the environmental regulations become stricter, new machining technologies are being developed which takes envi ronmenta 1 aspects into account . Since cut t ing oi I has some impact on environment. many researches are being carried out to minimize the use of cutting oi I. The methods for minimizing cutting oil usage includes the following techniques: I ) Cooling of tools and work piece. 2) Useage of compressed cooling air for the removal of chip. 3) Minimal useage of environment-friendly vegetable cutt:ngoiI for lubrication between chip and tools. Since the turning machine is continuous, tools are under constant thermal load and tool wear increases as the lubricative performance degrades. Also surface roughnesses have a direct influence on turning. In order to examine the characteristics of turningmachining, this work investigates experimentally the degree of tool wear and characteristics of surface roughness in relation to machining conditions, supply methods, and cooling methods.

  • This paper presents a strategy to develop the environmentally conscious machining process. To establish the knowledge the analytical and experimental methodology for he prediction of aerosol concentration due to cutting fluid atomization mechanism in machining operation. The established analytical model which is based on atomization theory analyzes the cutting fluid motion and aerosol generation in machining process. The impinging and evaporation experiments were performance to know the particle size ad evaporation rate of cutting fluid. The predictive models can be used as a basis for environmental impact analysis on the shop floor. It can be also facilitate the optimization of cutting fluid usage in achieving a balanced consideration of productivity and environmental consciousness.

  • 트위스트 드릴을 사용한 구멍은 구멍가공중 가장 경제적인 방법중의 하나이다. 그러나 트위스트 드릴에 의한 가공은 길이에 대한 구멍경의 비가 한정되어 있다. 깊이/직경(L/D)의 비가 통상 5배 이상의 경우의 적절한 가공방법은 거압력의 절삭유를 공급할 수 있는 공구를 사용하여 가공하고 있으며, 그 대표적인 방법은 Long drull, Gun drill, BTA drill 및 Ejector drill등이 있다. 이들 방법중 BAT drill은 다른 가공공구에 비하여 우수한 가공능율을 갖고 있다. 그러나 BAT드릴에 의한 심공가공은 1회 가공에 의하여 요구되는 품질을 만족시켜야 함으로 이에 대응한 연구가 요구되고 있다. 따라서 본 연구는 BAT드릴링 시스템에 BAT drrill을 사용하여 심공가공할때 공작물의 형상 즉 표면 거칠기 및 지원도등 미치는 영향에 대하여 실험을 통하여 분석하였다.

  • To complite the high speed cutting system, It should be solved some problems, to make light the weight of mechanism for feedrate, develop the Linear motor that bas more power, high speed control system, and high speed cutting tools, nowadays, although many high speed cutting machine is to be built by some machine maker ,they have same problems, in this study, developed the system ball screw type before the feedrate mechanism for linear motor ,so we make the basic system for Line Cents . through that, it is limited to reduce the weight of frame and their frame is to be designed differently each other to reach the purpose special material or strucutre should be contrived.

일부 절삭유 제조 및 취급 사업장의 오일 미스트의 노출농도 및 성분에 관한 연구 (Exposures to Oil Mist by Metal Machining Shop Workers and Analysis of Some Oils)

  • This study investigated exposures to oil mist obtained from an cutting oil manufacture shop and 5 machining shops and also analysis of some oils. The results were that geometric average concentrations of oil mist were $0.29 mg/m^3$, which was less than current $TLV(5mg/m^3$) in Korea. The proper case of either type of system will ensure that atmospheric concentrations of oil mist in machine shops will be within the TLV. It should be remembered, however, that this TLV was established before there was any suggestion that in the inhalable of oil mist might rarely be carcinogenic, and so it seems prudent to keep atmospheric content as low as possible. The analysis of insoluble cutting oils with GC-MSD showed that considerable suspected PAHs were contained. But soluble cutting oil(KSM-W2) didn't almost contain PAHs.
