Laser sealing/cutting technique, one of the 4 core technologies to manufacture self-luminous glass tubes (SLGTs) has been developed. Through the analysis of commercial products it is found that Pyrex Is used for SLGTs. A CO2 laser, which is commonly used for glass work was used for the study The factors affecting the sealing/cutting were laser intensity, duration. Irradiation method, and pressure inside the tube. The whole Process is composed of 2 stages. In the first stage. both ends of the tubes are sealed while tritium is insected in the tubes. And the tritium sealed tubes are cut in the desired size in the second stage. Defocused beam was used for seal ing and focused beam was used for cutting. After the sealing/cutting, the tubes were heat treated to prevent fracture due to the residual heat stress.
In this study, several underwater steel cutting tests and AUTODYN numerical analyses were conducted to evaluate the penetration performance of a shaped charge device. Parameter analyses for the contribution rate were conducted by using the robust design method. The parameters adopted in this study were chamber type, stand-off, and wire setting, each of which had three levels in the analysis. Analysis results showed that the contribution rate was most affected by the stand-off, followed by the chamber type and wire setting. Experiments of underwater steel cutting were conducted at water depth of 25m. As expected, the experiments and numerical simulation showed similar results for underwater steel cutting performance, and thus the feasibility of the shaped charge device for underwater steel cutting at deep water depth was verified.
An appropriate determination of time step is one of the important problems in atmospheric modeling. In this study, we investigate the sensitivity of numerical solutions to time step in a nonlinear atmospheric model. For this purpose, a simple nondimensional dynamical model is employed, and numerical experiments are performed with various time steps and nonlinearity factors. Results show that numerical solutions are not sensitive to time step when the nonlinearity factor is not influentially large and truncation error is negligible. On the other hand, when the nonlinearity factor is large (i.e., in a highly nonlinear regime), numerical solutions are found to be sensitive to time step. In this situation, smaller time step increases the intensity of the spatial filter, which makes small-scale phenomena weaken. This conflicts with the fact that smaller time step generally results in more accurate numerical solutions owing to reduced truncation error. This conflict is inevitable because the spatial filter is necessary to stabilize the numerical solutions of the nonlinear model.
Socket pressure distributions with gait analysis of a trnsfemoral and a transtibial prostheses were measured in order to assess an optimal socket fitting and function. Ankle joint was aligned by the neutral and the dorsi/plantar flexed positions. Compared to dorsi and plantar flexed positions of ankle joint, cadence and walking speed increased with the neutral ankle joint alignment. Other gait parameters were close to the normative data with the neutral ankle joint alignment. For the transfemoral amputee, dorsiflexed alignment of the ankle joint created high pressure on the lateral aspect of the socket, on the other hand, plantarflexed alignment resulted in increased pressure on the medial aspect of the socket. For the transtibial amputee, dorsiflexed alignment of the ankle resulted in high pressure on the antero-lateral aspect of the socket during mid-stance, but apltarflexion of the ankle joint showed slight increases in pressure at the same location in the socket. The present study clearly demonstarted that malalignment of a prosthesis results in localized increasesing pressure within the socket. Proper slignment of the prosthesis is required in order to acquire an appropriate socket-limb interface as well as the proper gait.

The purpose of this study was to provide an economical and easy preparation method for recombinant human epidermal growth factor (rhEGF) without the need for an expensive enzyme to cleave the fusion part. However, the N-terminal fusion part is still useful for affinity chromatography. The hEGF is an important hormone in cell growth and proliferation in humans, and many studies on the expression and purification of this protein have been reported. In the present study, the hEGF gene was designed to be optimized with the E. coli codon usage preference and to contain Asn-Gly at the N-terminus of the protein. The gene was inserted into pRSET_A, an E. coli expression vector, and transformed into E. coli BL21 (DE3). The recombinant fusion protein was successfully co-expressed with pG-Tf2, a chaperone vector, in E. coli and purified by Ni-NTA column chromatography. The rhEGF was then released by hydroxylamine treatment and confirmed by SDS-PAGE. ELISA analysis showed that the activity of the free rhEGF was more than 92% similar to that of commercial EGF. The biological activity of the rhEGF was confirmed by a cell proliferation test with human skin fibroblasts.
Purpose: To evaluate the survival rate, local failure rate and patterns of failure, and analyze the prognostic factors affecting local relapse of ductal carcinoma in situ treated with breast conserving surgery and radiotherapy Materials and Methods: From June 1995 to December 2001, 96 patients with ductal carcinoma in situ treated with breast conserving surgery and radiotherapy were retrospectively analyzed. The operations were either local or wide excision in all patients, with an axillary lymph node dissection performed in some patients. Radiation dose to the whole breast was 50.4 Gy, over 5 weeks, with 1.8 Gy daily fractions, with additional doses ($10\~14$ Gy) administered to the primary tumor bed in some patients with close ($\leq$2 mm) or positive resection margin. The median follow-up period was 43 months (range $10\~102$ months). Results: The 5-year local relapse free survival and overall survival rates were 91 and $100\%$ respectively. Local relapse occurred in 6 patients ($6.3\%$). Of the 6 recurrences, one was invasive ductal cell carcinoma. With the exception of one, all patients recurred 2 years after surgery. There was no regional recurrence or distant metastasis. Five patients with local recurrence were salvaged with total mastectomy, and are alive with no evidence of disease. One patient with recurrent invasive ductal cell carcinoma will receive salvage treatment. On analysis of the prognostic factors affecting local relapse, none of the factors among the age, status of resection margin, comedo type and nuclear grade affected local relapse. Operation extent also did not affect local control (p=0.30). In the patients with close resection margin, boost irradiation to the primary tumor bed did not affect local control (p=1.0). Conclusions: The survival rate and local control of the patients with ductal carcinoma in situ treated with breast conserving surgery and radiotherapy were excellent. Close resection margin and boost irradiation to the primary tumor bed did not affect local relapse, but further follow-up with much more patients is needed.

The purpose of this paper is to investigate the effect of the important parameters on the transfer length during the dynamic flame cutting of tendon experimentally. The considered parameters were strand diameter, concrete cover thickness, stirrup, debonding strand and release method. Ten pretensioned concete beam specimens were cast and tested. Time history curves for the axial strain of tendon were measured by electrical resistance strain gauges mounted on the strands. Experimental results indicated that large dynamic shock effects occurred near cut-end during the sudden release. The prestressing forces are dependent on the parameters above considered. The ratio of residual prestressing forces of 12.7 mm strands is greater than 15.2 mm strands. Using debonding strand and gradual release are more efficient for applying prestressing forces.

The double-peak normal distribution function (DPDF) suggested by Cho et al.(2004) has the problems that the extremely high and low tidal elevations are frequently generated in the Monte-Carlo simulation processes because the upper and lower limits of the DPDF are unbounded in spite of the excellent goodness-offit results. In this study, the modified DPDF is suggested by introducing the upper and lower value parameters and re-scale parameters in order to remove these problems. These new parameters of the DPDF are optimally estimated by the non-linear optimization problem solver using the Levenberg-Marquardt scheme. This modified DPDF can remove completely the unrealistically generated tidal levations and give a slightly better fit than the existing DRDF. Based on the DPDF's characteristic power, the over- and under estimation problems of the design factors are also automatically intercepted, too.
A recently developed spatial differencing scheme, Linear Characteristic (LC) scheme is compared with some traditionally used schemes such as Step Difference (SD), Diamond Difference (DD), and Step Characteristic (SC) scheme by analyzing the truncation error calculated numerically in slab geometry. Those four candidate schemes are applied to one simple source sink problem and two criticality problems (one is calculation of multiplication factor and the other is slab critical half thickness). The calculated results are then examined by some equitable measures of error. It is concluded that the LC scheme is terribly more powerful than any other candidate scheme that has been prevalent up to the present time. Moreover, the LC scheme estimates integral parameter such as multiplication factor and critical half thickness much more efficiently than SD or SC scheme. This is due to the fact that the fortuitous error cancellation, which occurs when the deviations of cell average flux are summed over the whole gamut of spatial meshes, happens much more favorably to the LC scheme.

In the current work, a series of three-dimensional finite element analyses have been carried out to understand the behaviour of pre-existing single piles and pile groups to adjacent Shield TBM tunnelling by considering various reinforcement conditions. The numerical modelling has analysed the effect of the pile cutting, ground reinforcement and pile cap reinforcement. The analyses concentrate on the ground settlements, the pile head settlements, the axial pile forces and the shear stress transfer mechanism at the pile-soil interface. In all cases of the pile tips supported by weathered rock, the distributions of shear stresses presented a similar trend. Also, when the pile tips were cut, tensile forces or compressive forces were induced on the piles depending on the relative positions of the piles. Furthermore, when the pile tips are supported by weathered rock, approximately 70% of the load is supported by surface friction, and only the remaining 30% is supported by the pile tip. Furthermore the final settlement of the piles without reinforcement showed approximately 70% more settlement than the piles for which ground reinforcement is considered. It has been found that the ground settlements and the pile settlements are heavily affected by the pile cutting and reinforcement conditions. The behaviour of the single pile and group piles, depending on the pile cutting, conditions of ground and pile cap reinforcement, has been extensively examined and analysed by considering the key features in great details.
