  • UAVs(Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) can be used in variant fields fornot only combat, but also recon, observation and exploration. Moreover, UAVs capacity can be expanded to impossible missions for existing surveillance system such as SAR(Synthetic Aperture Radar) technology that collecting images from all weather conditions. In recent days, with development of highly efficient IC and lightened system technology, there are significant increase of researches and demands to make SAR sensor as a payload of UAV. Therefore, this paper contains development process and results of small signal generator and RF device as a core module of SAR system based on the digital device of DDS.

  • Combat vehicles need an air-conditioning unit, although new combat systems tend to use an integrated system for heating, cooling, and ventilating. The specifications of an air-conditioning unit depend on the combat vehicle's purpose. It is difficult to send cooling air from the air-conditioning unit to a gun turret through the drum basket because the gun turret rotates and consists of a closed anti-aircraft shell magazine. In this study, we considered an air-conditioning unit for armored combat vehicle based on the special requirements and military specifications. We evaluated the performance of the air-conditioning unit despite the rotating gun turret through analysis and tests in terms of flow improvement compared to the previous model.

  • Counter Fire Operations can be characterized as having a system of systems that key features include situational awareness, command and control systems and highly responsive strike achieved by precision weapons. Current modeling methodology cannot provide an appropriate methodology for a system of systems and utilizes modeling and simulation tools to implement analytic options which can be time consuming and expensive. We explain developing methodology and tools for the effectiveness analysis of the counter fire operations under Network Centric Warfare Environment and suggest how to support a efficient decision making with the methodology and tools. Theater Counter Fire Operations tools consist of Enemy block, ISR block, C2 block and Shooter block. For the convenience of using by domain expert or non simulation expert, it is composed of the environments that each parameter and algorithm easily can be altered by user.

  • In modern marketing environment, we are more interested in logistics as industrial structure is complicated and globalized. Most companies focus on reducing the cost price. So a lot of companies study on cost estimation logistics. However, it Is very difficult to estimate the cost of logistics. Thus they mainly use linear method such as the simple distance of transportation. This study defines the cost of logistics, structure & network of military logistics and proposes the costing estimation model in the logistics. We apply to battle shoes which are the main clothing in the military. In the result, we found some differences on the rate of cost structure between military and civil companies. This study can be used directly to the decision making for optimal military logistics alternatives and contribute to the efficient operation of military budget.

  • C4I system is the centerpiece of the military force. The system is an information based system which facilitates information grid, collection of data and dissemination of the information. The C4I system seeks to assure information dominance by linking warfighting elements in the battlespace to information network which enables sharing of battlespace information and awareness; thereby shifting concept of warfare from platform-centric paradigm to Network Centric Warfare. Although, it is evident that C4I system is a constant target from the adversaries, the issues of vulnerability via cyberspace from attack still remains. Therefore, the protection of C4I system is critical. The roadmap I have constructed in this paper will guide through the direction to protect the system during peace and war time. Moreover, it will propose vision, objectives and necessary supporting framework to secure the system from the threat. In order to fulfill these tasks, enhanced investments and plans from the Joint chief of Staff and Defense of Acquisition and Program Administration (DAPA) is critical; thereby enabling the establishment of rapid and efficient security system.

  • The real-time distributed simulation at the present age concentrates on the construction of a system development environment in order to accomplish a synthetic battlefield environment connected with Live-Virtual-Constructive simulation and to realize the Simulation Based Acquisition which supports the life cycle of weapon system. Accordingly this paper describes the development environment of the UML modeling and simulation which integrates the system analysis and design methods performed during the conceptual design phase of the reconnaissance UAV system development. An integrated framework linked with the UML simulation and X-plane visualization is suggested to efficiently perform the system analysis and design, and finally the implementation contents, the analysis of experiment results and concluding remarks are described.

  • Threat Evaluation(TE) which has air intelligence attained by identifying friend or foe evaluates the target's threat degree, so it provides information to Weapon Assignment(WA) step. Most of TE data are passed by sensor measured values, but existing techniques(fuzzy, bayesian network, and so on) have many weaknesses that erroneous linkages and missing data may fall into confusion in decision making. Therefore we need to efficient Threat Evaluation system that can refine various sensor data's linkages and calculate reliable threat values under unpredictable war situations. In this paper, we suggest new threat evaluation system based on information fusion JDL model, and it is principle that combine fuzzy which is favorable to refine ambiguous relationships with bayesian network useful to inference battled situation having insufficient evidence and to use learning algorithm. Finally, the system's performance by getting threat evaluation on an air defense scenario is presented.

  • In modern warfare, jamming for neutralizing the enemy electronic equipments is as important as destroying them by common weapon systems. Noise jamming is a base technique of EA(Electronic Attack) and it is one of the effective jamming techniques. Noise jamming is effective regardless of enemy electronic equipment receiver types. For increasing jamming efficiency using the same output power, noise jamming bandwidth has to be similar to target receiver's bandwidth. Radar jamming source like DRFM(Digital Radio Frequency Memory) requires noise bandwidth changing immediately for time sharing multiple jamming. In this paper, we developed bandwidth changable noise jamming signal for phase sampling type DRFM and do simulation using Matlab for showing the jamming signal output.

Reverse Simulation Software Architecture for Required Performance Analysis of Defense System (국방 시스템의 요구 성능 분석을 위한 역 방향 시뮬레이션 소프트웨어 아키텍처)

  • This paper focuses on reverse simulation methods to find and analyze the required performance of a defense system under a given combat effectiveness. Our approach is motivated that forward simulation, that traditionally employs the effectiveness analysis of performance alternatives, is not suitable for resolving the above issue because it causes a high computational cost due to repeating simulations of all possible alternatives. To this end, the paper proposes a reverse simulation software architecture, which consists of several functional sub-modules that facilitate two types of reverse simulations according to possibility of inverse model design. The proposed architecture also enable to apply various search algorithms to find required operational capability efficiently. With this architecture, we performed two case studies about underwater and anti-air warfare scenarios. The case studies show that the proposed reverse simulation incurs a smaller computational cost, while finding the same level of performance alternatives compared with traditional forward simulation. Finally we expect that this study provides a guide those who desire to make decisions about new defense systems development.

Evaluation of AHP-Based Mobile MMORPG Game Interface Usability (AHP 기반 모바일 MMORPG 인터페이스 사용성 평가)

  • The use of games using smartphones have become universal, and the market share of MMORPG among various game genres shows an uptrend. However, MMORPG requires complex interface in view of the genre characteristics, and therefore, there are difficulties in building interface for efficient game play. This study analyzed game interface characteristics to suggest MMORPG game interface suitable for the mobile environment, and carried out a questionnaire survey evaluation on the usability of fight, exploration, character and transaction interfaces targeting 12 users. To quantitatively evaluate the subjective questionnaire survey results, this study analyzed a correlation between the characteristics of game interface and popularity using AHP. As a result, there was a close correlation between game selection & popularity and interface, and this study ascertained that interface development through game interface usability evaluation using AHP was possible.
