  • In the pursuit of ever higher levels of performance, recent computer systems have made use of deep pipeline, dynamic scheduling and multi-issue superscalar processor technologies. In this situations, branch prediction schemes are an essential part of modem microarchitectures because the penalty for a branch misprediction increases as pipelines deepen and the number of instructions issued per cycle increases. In this paper, we propose a novel branch prediction scheme, direction-gshare(d-gshare), to improve the prediction accuracy. At first, we model a neural network with the components that possibly affect the branch prediction accuracy, and analyze the variation of their weights based on the neural network information. Then, we newly add the component that has a high weight value to an original gshare scheme. We simulate our branch prediction scheme using Simple Scalar, a powerful event-driven simulator, and analyze the simulation results. Our results show that, compared to bimodal, two-level adaptive and gshare predictor, direction-gshare predictor(d-gshare. 3) outperforms, without additional hardware costs, by up to 4.1% and 1.5% in average for the default mont of embedded direction, and 11.8% in maximum and 3.7% in average for the optimal one.

  • The digital convergence looking for new ways to engage visitors by superimposing virtual content on projection over the real world captured media contents. This paper propose the Light ID based interactive 3D immersive exhibition things view using HMD AR technology. This approach does not required to add any additional infrastructure to be built-in to enable service and uses the installed Lighting or displays devices in the exhibit area. In this approach, the Light ID can be used as a Location Identifier and communication medium to access the content unlike the QR Tag which supports provide the download information through web interface. This utilize the advantages of camera based optical wireless communication (OWC) to receive the media content on smart device to deliver immersive 3D content visualization using AR. The proposed exhibition method is emulated on GALAXY S8 smart phone and the visual performance is evaluated for Jeonju Hanok Village. The experimental results shows that the proposed method can give immersive 3D view for exhibit things in real-time.

  • The Deokjin Pond is one of the places representing Jeonju City's history but has the poor water quality. The pond has a storage of $88,741m^3$ and a drainage area of $3.77km^2$. It has been maintained only by the groundwater pumped from the upstream wells and the direct rainfalls on the water surface since the old streams replenishing the pond were turned into a part of the sewer system due to indiscreet urbanization. The lack of replenishing water as well as the organic-rich bottom sediment were suggested as two main causes deteriorating the water-ecosystem. In this study, possible measures obtaining waters for restoration of Deokjin Pond ecosystem are discussed. It is estimated that the present pond can be replenished about 32 times a year by the runoff when the drainage system in the watershed is recovered to a state before urbanization. To support this, the drainage system is compared with that of nearby Osong Pond, which shows relatively better water-ecosystem. Even though Osong Pond has a drainage area one-seventh of that of Deokjin Pond, its storage is more than the half of it. It is because its watershed has a near natural drainage system where the rain mostly infiltrates into soil and slowly discharges into the pond. Therefore, it is believed that the low impact development (LID), which is known as a technique restoring the water circulating system to a condition before development, would be helpful in obtaining waters required for Deokjin Pond ecosystem management.

  • The performance of a shared memory multiprocessor system is dependent on the system software such as scheduling policy as well as hardware system. Most of existing simulators, however, do not support simulation for multi-programmed environment because they can execute only a single benchmark application at a time. We propose a multi-programmed simulation method on a program-driven simulator, which enables the concurrent executions of multiple parallel workloads contending for limited system resources. Using the proposed method, system developers can measure and analyze detailed effects of resource conflicts among the concurrent applications as well as the effects of scheduling policies on a program-driven simulator. As a result, the proposed multi-programmed simulation provides more accurate and realistic performance projection to design a multiprocessor system.

  • The main goal of synchronization is to guarantee exclusive access to shared data and critical sections, and then it makes parallel programs work correctly and reliably. Exclusive access restricts parallelism of parallel programs, therefor efficient synchronization is essential to achieve high performance in shared-memory parallel programs. Many techniques are devised for efficient synchronization, which utilize features of systems and applications. This paper shows the simulation results that existing synchronization methods have inefficiency under CC-NUMA(Cache Coherent Non-Uniform Memory Access) system, and then compares the performance of Freeze&Melt synchronization that can remove the inefficiency. The simulation results present that Test-and-Test&Set synchronization has inefficiency caused by broadcast operation and the pre-defined order of Queue-On-Lock-Bit (QOLB) synchronization to execute a critical section causes inefficiency. Freeze&Melt synchronization, which removes these inefficiencies, has performance gain by decreasing the waiting time to execute a critical section and the execution time of a critical section, and by reducing the traffic between clusters.

  • A scanning radar is exploited widely such as for ground surveillance, disaster rescue, and etc. However, the range resolution is limited by transmitted bandwidth and cross-range resolution is limited by beam width. In this paper, we propose a method for super-resolution radar imaging. If the distribution of reflectivity is sparse, the distribution is called sparse signal. That is, the problem could be formulated as compressive sensing problem. In this paper, 2D super-resolution radar image is generated via reweighted ${\ell}_1-Minimization$. In the simulation results, we compared the images obtained by the proposed method with those of the conventional Orthogonal Matching Pursuit(OMP) and Synthetic Aperture Radar(SAR).

  • In this paper, we deal with forward-looking imaging, and focus on forward-looking synthetic inverse scattering imaging for a vehicle with curved motion. For image formation, time domain correlation(TDC) is used and a 2D image of the ground in front of the vehicle is generated. Because TDC is a technique that implements matched filtering for a space-variant system, it is robust to Gaussian additive noise of measurements. Furthermore, comparison and analysis between images from linear motion and curved motion show that the resolution of the image is improved; however, the entropy of the image is increased owing to curved motion.

  • Frequency-modulated continuous wave(FMCW) radars with array antennas are widely used because of their light weight and relatively high resolution. A usual approach for the joint range and angle estimation of a target using an array FMCW radar is to create a range-angle matrix with the deramped received signal, and subsequently apply two-dimensional(2D) frequency estimation methods such as 2D fast Fourier transform on the range-angle matrix. However, such frequency estimation approaches cause bias errors since the frequencies in the range-angle matrix are not independent. Therefore, we propose a new maximum likelihood-based algorithm for joint range and angle estimation of targets using array FMCW radar, and demonstrate that the proposed algorithm achieves the Cram?r-Rao bounds, both for range as well as angle estimation.

  • As the prediction accuracy of conditional branch instruction is increased highly, the importance of prediction accuracy for unconditional branch instruction is also increased accordingly. Except the case of RAS(Return Address Stack) overflow, the prediction accuracy of function return address should be 100% theoretically. However, there exist some possibilities of miss-predictions for RAS return addresses, when miss-speculative execution paths are invalidated, in case of modern speculative microprocessor environments. In this paper, we propose the RAS rename technique to prevent RAS pollution, results in the reduction of RAS miss-prediction. We divide a RAS stack into a soft-stack and a hard-stack and we handle the instructions for speculative execution in the soft-stack. When some overwrites happen in the soft-stack, we move the soft-stack data into the hard-stack. In addition, we propose an enhanced version of RAS rename scheme. In simulation results, our solution provide 1/90 reduction of miss-prediction of function return address, results in up to 6.85% IPC improvement, compared to normal RAS method. Furthermore, it reduce miss-prediction ratio as 1/9, compared to previous technique.
