This research was concerned with the enhancement of heat transfer by surfactant added to the aqueous solution of LiBr. Different horizontal tubes were tested with and without an additive of normal octyl alcohol. The test tubes were a bare tube, floral tube and hydrophilic tube. The additive mass concentration was about 0.05${\sim}$5.5%. The heat transfer coefficient was measured as a function of solution flow rate for the range of 0.01${\sim}$0.034 kg/ms. The experimental results were compared with cases without surfactant. The enhancement of heat transfer by Marangoni convection effect generated by the addition of the surfactant is observed in each test tube. The increase of heat transfer coefficient by surfactant addition is about 35${\sim}$90% for bare tube, 40${\sim}$70% for the floral tube, 30${\sim}$50% for the hydrophilic tube and was higher for the cases with smaller a little solution flow rates.

If a plugged tube in a steam generator is broken, it may damage nearby intact tubes. To prevent this damage, it is recommended that a stabilizer is installed into the plugged tube. However, the installation cost of a stabilizer is very high. So studies are required to determine the conditions on which the installation is necessary. For this purpose static loads and dynamic loads applied on a tube should be known to estimate the residual strength and remaining fatigue and wear life of a plugged tube. Two-dimensional and three-dimensional computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analyses are performed to obtain the drag coefficient for cross flow to a tube. Using the obtained drag coefficient, the static load can be estimated and the residual strength of a plugged tube can be calculated. An inclined flow problem is also analyzed and the vertical and horizontal forces are obtained and discussed.

The objective of this study is to get the basic data for the development of fluidized bed combustor. For this purpose, various rake angles(.theta.=20.deg., 25.deg., 30.deg., 35.deg.) of finned tubes and a smooth tube were installed horizontally in the fluidized bed combustor of 410*250mm. The effect of fluidized bed temperature, superficial velocity in bed, size of bed materials, rake angle of finned tubes on the heat transfer coefficient was experimentally investigated. The following results were obtained. (1) Under the fluidized bed temperature(750.deg. C-900.deg. C), and the gas velocity in bed(1.1-2.8m/sec), The highest heat transfer coefficient was measured with the rake angle of finned tubes was .theta.=25.deg. and .theta.=35.deg. for the average fluidized material particle size of 1.22mm and 1.54mm, respectively. Generally, the heat transfer coefficient of finned tubes is 1.4 to 2.4 times larger than that of smooth tubes. (2) The size of bed materials influences the rake angle of finned tubes which can have the highest heat transfer coefficient. As the temperature in bed gets higher, the effect of the rake angle of finned tubes on the heat transfer coefficient becomes greater.

Theory of the building heat transfer is generally limited to the heat flux to the surfaces of windows and walls, which influences the indoor climate of a building, in the field of architectural environmental engineering. While the heat flux from the buildings to their environment has been considered in the viewpoint of urban climate, its conventional theory have been rarely examined. The purpose of this study is to propose a building-urban heat transfer model for defining the relation between the building and the urban climate by extending the building heat transfer model. In this study, the extended building heat transfer model, where response factor method is used, is established on the urban space and the indoor space by the boundary of building envelopes. Computer simulation (HASP/ACLD) is conducted on the subjected urban area by the established building-urban heat transfer model. As a result it is logically proved that the short waves of solar radiation, which interact with long Waves of radiation from the buildings and the earth, increase the urban air temperature ana buildings largely influence on the urban climate.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the enhancement of heat transfer coefficient in double pipe fluidized bed heat exchangers. The inner tube used a smooth tube and a finned tube equipped with longitudinal fins. The heat transfer coefficients between the heated tube and fluidized bed of alumina beads were calculated as a function of fluidized velocity in various particle sizes($d_p$=0.41, 0.54, 0.65, 0.77mm) and static bed heights($H_o$=50, 100, 150, 200, 250mm). The coefficient for finned tube is higher than for smooth tube. And the maximum increasing rate is 7.8 times in smooth tube and 12.9 times in finned tube.

Soft icecream is made by scraping an ice formed on the inside of the cylindrical evaporator, where R-404A is evaporating in the annulus. The heat transfer characteristics of the refrigerant evaporation and those during icecream formation were experimentally investigated. Results show that the refrigerant-side heat transfer coefficients are highly dependent on the location in the evaporator due to the complex annulus configuration. The heat transfer coefficient at the inlet is generally lower than those of other locations. The average heat transfer coefficient increases as heat flux increases or saturation temperature decreases. A correlation is developed to predict the refrigerant-side heat transfer coefficient. The icecream-side heat transfer coefficient oscillates continuously due to the periodic removal of ice formed on the surface. The average heat transfer coefficient during icecream formation is approximately 280 W/$m^2K$, and that during single-phase cooling increased from 150 W/$m^2K$ to 250 W/$m^2K$.

In this study, performance tests were conducted to investigate the applicability of a double-tube heat recovery ventilation system. Paper, aluminum, polymer, were investigated as materials for the inner tube using the same exhaust-air volume. In all cases, the temperature exchange efficiency of the aluminum tube was the highest, while the paper tube showed similar results to those of the polymer tube. This probably resulted from the differences in thermal conductivity and thicknesses of the materials. The humidity exchange efficiency was the highest for the paper tubes in all cases, while the aluminum tubes and polymer tubes showed similar results. The total heat exchange efficiency, which includes the values of humidity exchange and temperature exchange, was highest in the case of the paper tube, and the aluminum tube and the polymer tube showed similar results. In the case of the paper tube, sensible heat and latent heat exchange occur at the same time, and the coefficient of energy of the aluminum tube and polymer tube are large values, when to be compared with only applicably sensible heat exchange coefficient of the aluminum tube and the polymer tube of total heat exchange efficiency value. The results of this study could be applied to the design of a ventilation system.
An experimental investigation on the flow and convective heat transfer characteristics has been carried out far aluminum foam heat sink inserted into the annulus to examine the feasibility as a heat sink. Two aluminum foams or different permeability were selected to provide the friction factor and heat transfer correlations as function of Darcy, Reynolds and Prandtl number. Experimental results show that the friction factor is higher than clear annulus without aluminum foam, while $6\sim10$ times augmentation in Nusselt number is obtained. This technique can be used for the compactness of the heat exchanger.

Experimental condensation and evaporation heat transfer coefficients were measured in a horizontal smooth tube and a horizontal micro-finned tube with HFC-134a. The test sections are straight, horizontal tubes with have a 9.52mm outside diameter and about 5000mm long. The micro-finned tube had 60 fins with a height of 0.12mm and a spiral angle of 25.deg.. The condensation test section was a double-pipe type with counter flow configuration. The evaporation test section employed an electic heating method. Enhancement factors which is defined as a ratio of the heat transfer coefficient for micro-finned tube to that for smooth tube, varied from 1.3 to 1.6(mass flux:110~190kg/m$^{2}$s) for condensation and 1.2 to 1.5 (mass flux:70~160kg/m$^{2}$s) for evaporation. The experimental data of condensation and evaporation heat transfer coefficients were compared to several empirical correlations. Based on these comparisons, modified correlations of the condensation and evaporation heat transfer coefficient for both smooth and micro-finned tubes were proposed.
