Development of Gravity Gradient Referenced Navigation and its Horizontal Accuracy Analysis (중력구배기반 항법 구현 및 수평위치 정확도 분석)

  • Recently, researches on DBRN(DataBase Referenced Navigation) system are being carried out to replace GNSS(Global Navigation Satellite System), as weaknesses of GNSS were found that are caused by the intentional interference and the jamming of the satellite signal. This paper describes the gravity gradient modeling and the construction of EKF(Extended Kalman Filter) based GGRN(Gravity Gradient Referenced Navigation). To analyze the performance of GGRN, fourteen flight trajectories were made for simulations over whole South Korea. During the simulations, we considered the errors in both DB(DataBase) and sensor as well as the flight altitudes. Accurate performances were found, when errors in the DB and the sensor are small and they located at lower altitude. For comparative evaluation, the traditional TRN(Terrain Referenced Navigation) was also developed and performances were analyzed relative to those from the GGRN. In fact, most of GGRN performed better in low altitude, but both of precise gravity gradient DB and gradiometer were required to obtain similar level of precisions at the high altitude. In the future, additional tests and evaluations on the GGRN need to be performed to investigate on more factors such as DB resolution, flight speed, and the update rate.

Analysis of Conformability for Cadastral Control Network Using GPS Satellite Surveying (GPS에 의한 지적삼각망의 정합성 분석)

  • A number of existing cadastral control stations have been destroyed and shifted by a long lapse of time and careless management. Also, results of them are partly poor owing to dependence on conventional survey method. Because of these, it is very difficult in use of results. Hereupon, correction of cadastral results is necessary in level of government. But it is very consumable to check and adjust results with existing equipments and related techniques only. It is required that this problem can be resolved efficiently. This study analyzed the conformability for cadastral control network to GPS, GPS, which determine precise 3-D coordinates on a short time, to positioning of cadastral stations. We chose DaeJon city for the test area of this study and analyzed the precision of network composed of sixteen cadastral control stations. We made comparision the old result and the new outcome which obtained from coordinate transformation method and horizontal network adjustment method. As a result of this, we detected the blunder of cadastral stations. Furthermore, we suggested effective network type according to precision analysis of GPS observation network. Therefore, there is no doubt that GPS surveying can be applied to checking and adjustment of cadastral control network. Hereafter, it is expected that the practical use of GPS is advanced in a field of cadastration.

Phytohydrographic Plankton Studies during the First Half of the 20th Century in Korean Neritic Seas (20세기 전반 한국 근해역 플랑크톤의 식물수문학적 연구)

  • From the cosmopolitan superiority of the as the first world map completed in 1402 with surprisingly detailed images and contents on the Africa Continent it is reasonable to think that the Koreans in early fifteen century were already with highly up-to-date perspectives on the universe and world history and cultures. However, some 490 year later the first phytohydrographic plankton investigation in the neritic seas of Korea was performed by a Japanese company with sampling points covering from Tokyo Bay through Jeju neritic waters to Shanghai estuary, which was in turn preceded by the first oceanographic investigation other than the simple mapping Koreans seas by using two French sailboats. The first phytohydrographic plankton investigation in Korean seas were behind the world first oceanic plankton exploration, the German Plankton Expedition, by 25 years. Starting from the oceanographic investigation including phytohydrographic samplings in the whole Yellow Sea in 1915 the full-scale phytohydrographic plankton studies were tried in Korean seas which is well represented by the 1921 oceanographic investigation on the whole East Sea with 80 sampling stations. In 1932 two separate oceanographic investigations followed, one in the East Sea where 78 stations from Busan to southern Sakhalin Island were simultaneously visited by 50 research vessels for the physical, chemical, and biological oceanographic studies, and the other one in southern coast and western East Sea of Korea where ocean current observation as well as plankton sampling were made in 120 stations to understand the relationship between the ocean current and plankton distribution in the region. In 1933-1934 more intensified investigations on phytohydrography were carried out particularly in the East Sea as an integral part of the basic marine ecosystem studies for the Myeong-Tae (Alaska Pollock) resources estimation. Scientists' attitude for the marine investigation and research activities seemed to be almost unchanging even to the year 1943, which could be reflected by the fact that publication of the results from the investigations performed in 1945 were finally done in 1967 at Tokyo. Some 70 years later from the mid-twenty century we might be standing on the turning-point of "need to be prepared" for the new era of changing paradigm by reviewing, archiving, and analyzing the prior information big data from the previous ocean observation and biohydrographic investigations. At the same time each professional societies for the above mentioned sciences might trigger a continuous project to reorganize and update the records on related bibliography and its history every 30 years.

Design of a Crowd-Sourced Fingerprint Mapping and Localization System (군중-제공 신호지도 작성 및 위치 추적 시스템의 설계)

  • WiFi fingerprinting is well known as an effective localization technique used for indoor environments. However, this technique requires a large amount of pre-built fingerprint maps over the entire space. Moreover, due to environmental changes, these maps have to be newly built or updated periodically by experts. As a way to avoid this problem, crowd-sourced fingerprint mapping attracts many interests from researchers. This approach supports many volunteer users to share their WiFi fingerprints collected at a specific environment. Therefore, crowd-sourced fingerprinting can automatically update fingerprint maps up-to-date. In most previous systems, however, individual users were asked to enter their positions manually to build their local fingerprint maps. Moreover, the systems do not have any principled mechanism to keep fingerprint maps clean by detecting and filtering out erroneous fingerprints collected from multiple users. In this paper, we present the design of a crowd-sourced fingerprint mapping and localization(CMAL) system. The proposed system can not only automatically build and/or update WiFi fingerprint maps from fingerprint collections provided by multiple smartphone users, but also simultaneously track their positions using the up-to-date maps. The CMAL system consists of multiple clients to work on individual smartphones to collect fingerprints and a central server to maintain a database of fingerprint maps. Each client contains a particle filter-based WiFi SLAM engine, tracking the smartphone user's position and building each local fingerprint map. The server of our system adopts a Gaussian interpolation-based error filtering algorithm to maintain the integrity of fingerprint maps. Through various experiments, we show the high performance of our system.
