  • This study was undertaken to judge the quality of air-tightened exhibition cases and to predict the dynamic variation of the relative humidity in the showcase. We performed a lot of experiments for the a few conditions and we numerically calculated the air change rate and the relative humidity in the showcase with the Artsorb under the same conditions. In all cases we confirmed that the numerical results about the relative humidity in the showcase had a good agreement with the experimental ones. Through the experiments of humidity control, we found out that the adsorption efficiency is varied with the location and the amount of the Artsorb. And the numerical results showed that the adsorption material is always needed to keep on the appropriate humidity condition in the showcase even though any kind of the showcases are used.

  • This study was undertaken to judge the quality of air-tightened exhibition cases. Exhibition cases for artifacts display provide a layer of protection between the interior conditions in the exhibition case and the exterior fluctuating conditions of temperature and relative humidity in the museum environment. An infiltration model of the exhibition case was developed through the experimental measurements to calculate the number of air change rate in the exhibition case undergoing in a day, which represents the airtightness of the exhibition case. The results indicate that tighter exhibition cases provide greater protection against the fluctuating conditions of temperature and humidity outside. When the temperature and humi- dity difference between the exhibition case in-and-out is larger, some absorption materials should be applied to control the environmental conditions in the exhibition case.

  • Vertical open display cabinets are widely used in shopping mall, supermarkets, retail stores. Maintaining the temperature of foods in the display cabinet is vitally important to retailers to ensure optimal food quality and safety. The purpose of this study is to reduce the infiltration of air and heat loss from ambient space to display cabinet. The three-dimensional Computational Fluid Dynamics(CFD) simulation is used for the analysis of air flow patterns and temperature distribution in refrigerated display cabinets. Under several operating conditions which vary both the inner and outer jet velocities in the range from 0.3 to 1.1 m/s, simulations were carried out. This paper presents a performance of display cabinets with single jet and double jet. The energy consumption due to thermal entrainment ratio is plotted with varying Re. It was found that the double jet system is better than single jet system in terms of temperature distribution and energy saving.

  • Vertical open display cases are widely used in shopping malls, supermarkets, or retail stores to sell frozen and refrigerated products. Open display cases use air curtains to maintain a reasonable temperature within the storage space, prevent insects from breaking in, and reduce energy usage. In this research, computational fluid dynamics was used to find the optimal condition for reducing energy by considering various conditions such as discharge speed or temperature of air curtains. Results of the study showed that the amount of energy consumed in the display cabinet is influenced by the discharge speed and temperature of the slots installed on the upper area and the amount of air supplied to the storage area inside the shelf. This shows that the amount of discharged air supplied from the storage area influences the formation of air curtain and also the amount of energy consumption. As a result of this study, we learned that the amount of energy used can be reduced by increasing the amount of discharged air within the storage area and enhancing back pressure.

  • In this study, a simulation program was developed, which predicts the performance of cold-air forced circulation type air cooled showcase. The showcase has an excellent display effect in addition to preserving the grocery. In the program, the compressor was analyzed using performance data supplied by the manufacturer and the capillary tube pressure drop was analyzed using a homogeneous model. The evaporator and condenser were analyzed by dividing the heat exchangers into small elements, where energy balance and appropriate heat transfer correlations were used. A showcase model with two 3/4 HP compressors, capillary tubes of 1.6 mm inner diameter, a fin-and-tube evaporator and condenser was tested, and the results are compared with the predicted values. It is shown that both evaporation and condensation temperatures are adequately predicted by the program.

  • Along with research into the latest preservation treatments for items of cultural heritage, studies of the preservation environment and the effect of damage are also increasing. This study conducted comprehensive research into the temperature, humidity, acids, ammonia, reduced sulfur compounds, aldehydes with various ingredients in the exhibition hall, show case, and storage of three type museum. As a result, temperature, humidity, TVOCs, acetaldehyde frequently exceeded the domestic and international standards for a museum preservation environment and indoor air quality. Also, formaldehyde, chloride, and ammonia exceeded the standards intermittently. Temperature, humidity, TVOCs, acetaldehyde were evaluated to be the major influential factors. In order to control the major factors, apart from temperature and humidity, that cause damage in the museum environment, it is deemed necessary to complement this system with an effective air filter or remover.
