  • This paper aims to study structural changes in electric conductors which are heated during electric fire by means of microscope. The results are applicable to the pursuit of the causes of electric fire and to the establishment of criteria for the indentification of electric fire. This work is an extension of the previous study by the author, particularly with emphasis on quantitative analysis.

  • In the global ship structure and vibration analysis, the FE(finite element) analysis model is required in the early design stage before the 3D CAD model is defined. And the analysis model generation process is a time-consuming job and takes much more time than the engineering work itself. In particular, ship structure has too many associated structural members such as stringers, stiffness and girders etc. These structural members should be satisfied as the constraints in analysis modeling. Therefore it is necessary to support generation of analysis model with satisfying these constraints as an automatic manner. For the effective support of the global ship analysis modeling, a method to generate analysis model using initial design information within ship design process, that hull form offset data and compartment data, is developed. In order to easily handle initial design information and FE model information, flexible data structure is proposed. An automatic quadrilateral mesh generation algorithm using initial design information to satisfy the constraints imposed on the ship structure is also proposed. The proposed data structure and mesh generation algorithm are applied for the various type of vessels for the usability test. Through this test, we have verified the stability and usefulness of this system including mesh generation algorithm.

Bonding Stress Analysis of Cable Fairings used in Small Guided Missiles and Strength Tests of Bonding Materials (유도무기 케이블 페어링의 강도 해석 및 접착재 강도 시험)

  • Cable fairings of guided missiles are generally used for protection of electric cables under aerodynamic heating and mechanical loading. The stress distributions between a cable fairing and missile main body along a cable fairing are necessary for its design. In this paper, a method for bonding stress and strength analysis of a cable fairing has been investigated and its computer program developed. Tensile and three-point bending tests of generally used bonding materials were also conducted to supply basic material properties for design of cable fairings.

  • Through the numerical analysis of the capillary pressure-based Richards equation with and without the effect of the capillary hysteresis under the boundary condition having an antecedent rainfall. the moving tendency of the wetting front, the redistribution of the moisture content, infiltration rate, cumulative infiltration etc, were computed. The effect of the capillary hysteresis cannot be neglected in analyzing an unsaturated flow, and the more accurate results may be obtained by the consideration of the hysteresis effect. If the effect of the hysteresis cannot be considered, the analysis by the use of the main wetting curve may give more reliable result than that of the main drying curve.

  • The numerical analysis to predicting the electrokinetic remediation behavior on unsaturated soil is carried out by aiding HERO, Hanyang Unversity Electrokinetic Remediation program, developed from the finite difference method and in the VISUAL FORTRAN environment. The analysis for the pure kaolinite under saturated conditions is performed on the results of the previous study of Acar (1997). Also the predictions to the characteristics of electrokinetic remediation on unsaturated conditions are performed and the conclusions summarized as follows. First, pH of the electrolyte in the reservoirs is not different with the degree of saturation resulted from the changes in electrical efficiency. But the advance of acid front is increased dependent on the degree of saturation in contrary to the transportation of base front. Second, below the degree of saturation of 83%, which is equivalent to the optimum water content, the removal effect increased with the decreasing of degree of saturation. But it have no effect on the efficiency of removal over the degree of saturation of 83%.

Salinity Distribution in the Mid-eastern Yellow Sea during the High Discharge from the Keum River Weir (금강하구언 대량방류시 황해 중동부 해역의 염분분포)

  • Hydrographic survey was carried out in the mid-eastern Yellow Sea from Keum River to Taean Peninsula in order to study the motion of the freshwater from the Keum River during July 07-12, 1997 when a large volume of freshwater was discharged from the Keum River weir. The low-salinity (less than 30.0 psu) plume was distributed over the large area between the Keum River and Ochong Island, 60 km northwest off the Keum River mouth. A band of relatively low saline water, originating from the Keum River, was also observed to the north of Ochong Island. The strong haline front had advanced from near Sibidongpa Island to Ochong Island, 25 km northwest of Sibidongpa Island, for 48 hours. A northwestward flow of a speed greater than 0.2 m/s was observed in the surface plume layer to the north of Sibidongpa Island where the water column was strongly stratified. The observed mean flow and the change of the frontal position are interpreted as resulting from the spreading of the Keum River plume. These results suggest that the discharge from the Keum River plays an important role in the coastal circulation of the mid-eastern Yellow Sea adjacent to the river.

Analysis of the Melting Characteristics of a Blade Type Fuse Used for Vehicles Due to Overload (과부하에 따른 차량용 블레이드형 퓨즈의 용단특성 해석)

  • The purpose of this study is to secure the basis for judgment on the cause of an accident by analyzing the melting characteristics of a blade type fuse used for vehicles due to overload. In order to increase the reliability of the test, it was conducted by connecting the electrical system with conditions similar to those of an actual vehicle to apply the load. Carbonization pattern experiment of fuse by outside flame applied Korean Standard (KS). The fuse melted by the overcurrent showed a smooth cross-section while the test terminals, clear plastic body, etc., burnt out by the external flame was badly deformed. When 185% of the rated current (27.8A) was applied to a cable of 15A rated current onto which an over-capacity fuse (20A) was installed, the fuse melting time was 217 seconds. In addition, when a load current of 28.8[A] (139%) was applied, the fuse's test terminal and terminal blade were not burnt out although foam was observed on some parts of the plastic body. When a load capacity of 28.2[A] (141%) was applied to a cable of 15A rated current onto which an over-capacity fuse (30A) was installed, the fuse melting time was approximately 10 seconds. When a load current of 35.8[A] (119%) was applied, the fuse's test terminal and terminal blade were not burnt out, although some parts of the plastic body was swelled. However, it was observed that the switch terminal melted if approximately six minutes lapsed under such conditions. When a load capacity of 39.4[A] (131%) was applied to a cable of 15A rated current onto which an over-capacity fuse (30A) was installed, the fuse melted in approximately 69 seconds, and the test terminal and terminal blade were not burnt.

  • 현대 사회의 기술 발달에 따라서 회로의 집적도 대비 이용하는 주파수가 매우 높아지고 있다. 즉, 회로의 이용 주파수가 높아짐에 따라서 파장이 신호를 전달하는 전선만큼 짧아져 기존의 회로이론을 기반으로 하는 집중 정수 회로적 관점으로 해석할 수 없다. 따라서 전송선로 이론에 따라 해석하여야 하지만, 최근 전자기기들은 높은 집적도나 여러 모듈(Module)을 종합해서 만들기 때문에 전기적 특성이 일정한 전송선로의 이론을 적용하기가 힘들며, 따라서 이는 불연속을 고려한 전송선로의 분석이 이루어져야 함을 시사한다. 이에 본 논문에서는 전송선로에서 불연속 구간이 존재할 경우 기존의 전송선로 이론을 적용한 전기파라미터 변환에 미치는 영향을 알아보기 위해서 불연속 구간이 존재하는 마이크로 스트립 구조를 설계해 VNA(Vector Network Analyzer)를 이용해서 산란계수(S-Parameter)를 측정 및 분석하였다.

  • ABC 케이블 배전방식은 완전절연이 가능한 전력케이블 3상 또는 단상을 1가닥의 조가선에 일정한 간격으로 꼬아서 전주를 이용하여 가공으로 설치 할 수 있는 특고압 및 저압 케이블을 말한다. ABC 케이블은 국내외에서 이용되고 있는 방식으로 수목 접촉, 염해, 조류사고 다발지역은 물론 건조물과 전선 사이의 이격거리가 미달되는 개소 등에서 사용되고 있다. 본 논문은 ABC 케이블 가공배전선로에서의 과도현상을 해석하고 일반 가공배전선로의 경우와 비교함으로써 ABC 케이블 배전선로의 결과를 평가하였다. 본 논문에서의 모델링 및 분석은 EMTP를 이용하였다.

  • Overloading of electrical equipment results in excessive currents. As the heat developed in the cables is proportional to square of the current, they get overheated. The insulation on cables is generally made of materials which are damaged easily by excessive temperature. They may therefore lose their insulating properties and lead to short circuits. Since many insulating materials are combustible, they may even catch fire if the temperature rises to their ignition temperature. In this paper, we have simulated the thermal analysis for cable according to the value of current in a overload and a short with the cable of the L's company product(600 V, VV : Four Core) using the electro-thermal finite element method(Flux2D).
