A case study of life cycle cost analysis on high pressure sodium lamp and LED lamp for tunnel lighting (터널 조명 고압나트륨램프와 LED램프의 LCC 분석 사례 연구)

  • Tunnel is the most energy-consuming structure in road due to the characteristic of using artificial lighting during day and night. Therefore, tunnel lights are being replaced by LED lamp that have advantages with respect to low power consumption. The best use of social overhead capital can be expected by considering the life cycle cost, because to tunnel structures are accompanied by a series of medium-to-long-term and continuous processes of replacing auxiliary facilities. In this study, the saving effect by LCC analysis was quantitatively analyzed by replacing tunnel light sources from high-pressure sodium lamps to LED lamps. The effect of reducing the replacement cycle by increasing the life of the lamps and the resulting maintenance cost is very significant, on replacing tunnel lighting light sources with LED lamp.

Development of Home Electrical Power Monitoring System and Device Identification Algorithm (가정용 전력 모니터링 시스템 및 장치식별 알고리즘 개발)

  • This paper presents an electrical power monitoring system for home energy management and an automatic appliance-identification algorithm based on the electricity-usage patterns collected during the monitoring tests. This paper also discusses the results of the field tests of which the proposed system was voluntarily deployed at 13 homes. The proposed monitoring system periodically measures the amount of power consumption of each appliance with a pre-specified time interval and effectively displays the essential information provided by the monitored data which is required users to know in order to save power consumption. Regarding the field tests of the monitoring system, the households responded that the system was useful in saving electricity and especially the electricity-usage patterns per appliances. They also considered that the predicted amount of the monthly power consumption was effective. The proposed appliance-identification algorithm uses 4 patterns: Zero-Crossing Rate(ZC), Variation of On State(VO), Slope of On State(SO) and Duty Cycle(DC), which are applied over the 2 hour interval with 25% of it on state, and it yielded 82.1% of success rate in identifying 5 kinds of appliances: refrigerator, TV, electric rice-cooker, kimchi-refrigerator and washing machine.

A Resource Adaptive Data Dissemination Protocol for Wireless Sensor Networks (무선 센서 네트워크를 위한 자원 적응형 데이터 확산프로토콜)

  • In this paper, it proposes a protocol of resource adaptive data dissemination for sensor nodes in a wireless sensor network. In general, each sensor node used in a wireless sensor network delivers the required information to the final destination by conducting cooperative works such as sensing, processing, and communicating each other using the battery power of a independent sensor node. So, a protocol used for transferring the acquired information to users through the wireless sensor network can minimize the power consumption of energy resource given to a sensor node. Especially, it is very important to minimize the total amount of power consumption with a method for handling the problems on implosion. data delivery overlapping, and excessive message transfer caused by message broadcasting. In this paper, for the maintaining of the shortest path between sensor nodes, maximizing of the life time of a sensor node and minimizing of communication cost, it presents a method for selecting the representative transfer node for an event arising area based on the negotiation scheme and maintaining optimal transfer path using hop and energy information. Finally, for the performance evaluation, we compare the proposed protocol to existing directed diffusion and SPIN protocol. And, with the simulation results, we show that the proposed protocol enhances the performance on the power consumption rate when the number of overall sensor nodes in a sensor network or neighbor sensor nodes in an event area are increased and on the number of messages disseminated from a sensor node.

  • 센서 네트워크는 제한된 에너지를 가지는 작은 노드들로 구성이 된다. 제한된 자원을 가지는 센서 네트워크에서 저 전력에 대한 연구는 핵심 분야로써, 다양한 연구가 진행 중이다. 센서 네트워크에서 에너지 효율을 높이는 방법들이 많이 연구되고 있다. 센서 네트워크에서 가장 큰 에너지 손실을 가져오는 부분은 통신 부분이며, 질의 기반 센서 네트워크에서는 질의를 배포하게 될 때 에너지 소비의 주요 요소들이 발생하게 된다. 따라서, 본 논문은 베이스스테이션으로 다중 질의를 요청할 때 질의 합성을 통해 전달되는 질의 수를 최소화하여 질의의 배포에 따른 에너지 소비 요소를 줄이는데 그 목적이 있다. 질의는 조건절에서 특정 속성에 대해서 판별하는데, 본 논문에서 제안하는 방법은 속성에 따라 질의를 합성하여 원본 질의의 개수보다 적게 하는 것이다. 제안 알고리즘을 통해 합성된 질의가 센서 노드에게 전해지는 과정에서 데이터의 송수신 횟수 및 overhead를 줄일 수 있으며, 또한 센서 노드는 합성된 질의로 센싱 횟수를 줄 일 수 있어 에너지 효율을 높일 수 있다. 본 논문에서 제안한 방법과 일반적인 방법을 비교하기 위해 에너지 소모 절감 예를 살펴봤다.

  • An efficient method for reducing power consumption in pipelined deep packet inspection systems is proposed. It is based on the observation that the number of memory accesses is dominant for the power consumption and the number of accesses drops drastically as the input goes through stages of the pipelined AC-DFA. A DPI system is implemented where the operating frequency of the stages that are not frequently used in the pipeline is reduced to eliminate the waste of power consumption. The power consumption of the proposed DPI system is measured upon various input character set and up to 25% of reduction of total power consumption is obtained, compared to those of the recent DPI systems. The method can be easily applied to other pipelined architecture and string searching applications.

  • Recently, the crude oil price per one barrel in 2005 cost 49.4 dollars. But the value of crude oil in 2007 had ascended 68.4 dollars which was skyrocketed 38.5[%] owing to the sudden rise of energy price. As it has been growing the necessity of energy efficiency, energy intentive companies actively try to implement energy management system It has been studied to improve the energy saving for household sector using the smart metering system which can give the information of energy prices, pattern on real time to energy consumers and voluntarily lead the activities of energy saving. In this paper, we estimated potential benefits and value of smart metering system through california test.

  • Low-pressure sodium lamps, high-pressure sodium lamps, and fluorescent lamps are mainly used for tunnel lighting in Rep. of Korea, which accounts for the highest percentage in the tunnel maintenance costs. Therefore, tunnel lights are being replaced by LED lamp that have advantages with respect to low power consumption and sustainability. To analyze the effect of replacement high pressure sodium lamp with LED lamp, illumination and monthly power usage per year have been investigated for 10 tunnels. The usage of LED lamp results in illumination improvement from 27.9% to 490% and power saving around average 47.1%.

  • 최근 건강에 대한 인지도가 높아감에 따라 농산물의 안정성 요구도가 증가되고 있으며 환경농업의 필요성이 크게 대두되고 있고, 서구식 식문화의 급속한 도입으로 패스트푸드 식품과 육류 소비량의 증가로 신선채소의 소비가 증가되고 있는데 이에 따른 생산비 절감과 안정생산 기술이 요구되고 있다. 따라서 양액 공급에 따른 전력 등 에너지가 필요치 않고 일종의 폐쇄식 수경재배 방법으로써 작물이 주위 환경에 따라 양수분 흡수량이 다르므로 모세관 현상으로 배지내의 수분이 작물의 흡수한 만큼 공급되어 이용되고 배액이 없으므로 공해의 염려가 없고 고품질 채소의 저비용 생산이 가능한 새로운 모관양액공급시스템을 이용하여 양액공급시스템의 효율성을 검정하고 네트멜론과 몇 가지 엽채소의 생육특성을 구명코자 수행하였다.   • 본 논문에서는 37인치 LCD TV의 패널 전원 공급용 회로로 사용되는 120W급 LLC 공진형 컨버터의 정상 상태 해석을 하였다. 특히, 종래와 달리 TV의 소비 전력 절감을 위해 넓은 범위로 동작하는 램프의 PWM Dimming 기능 동작시의 넓은 동작 영역에서의 공진형 컨버터의 정상 상태 해석을 하였다. TV SET의 동작 중 발생할 수 있는 공진형 컨버터 회로의 전단 회로인 Power Factor Correction 회로의 전압 변동과 또한 넓은 범위로 동작하는 램프의 PWM Dimming 기능 동작시의 부하 변동을 고려하여 LLC 공진형 컨버터의 정상 상태 해석을 하였다. 넓은 범위의 입출력 조건에서도 안정적으로 동작하는 컨버터 회로에 대한 이론적 분석과 실험을 통해 적용된 회로의 신뢰성과 우수성을 확인할 수 있었다.

A Study on Efficient Control of Backlight LED for Reduction of Power Consumption of LCD TV (LCD TV의 소비 전력 절감을 위한 백라이트 LED의 효율적인 제어에 관한 연구)

  • In this paper, we present an algorithm for efficient control of backlight LED in order to reduce the power consumption of LCD TV. In addition, a pragmatic implementation method is presented. In conventional local dimming control, backlight LEDs of LCD TV are divided into $M{\times}N$ blocks. And, the proper luminance for each block is computed according to input image and used for dimming control. But, LED light of each block is diffused and affects the neighboring blocks, so that luminance of each block becomes larger than that of intent. In the proposed algorithm, dimming control values are reduced by the amount of quantity affected by the neighboring blocks using light spread function, resulting in additional reduction of power consumption.
