  • The past combats depended often on a number of firepower and manpower. However, integrated decision support viewpoint from communications, surveillance, reconnaissance, intelligence and so forth in combats witnessed in the Gulf, the Middle East, and Afghanistan have changed the trends of combat. That is, the force multipliers which many support systems enhance the combat potential of the fighting forces significantly become big issues to win or not in that combat. According to changing recent combat trend, Lanchester's combat model is being challenged to develop keeping pace with the new trend. We approach this paper as mathematical modeling about how the effect of terrain affects in the combat. Terrain information is invisible, but it is necessary to consider for analysis of warfare. Additionally, tangible or intangible elements affecting to attrition coefficients are continuely reflected to the combat model from decision-makers, then it will be a model closer to the reality and very suggestive to the actual world.

  • The conceptual design of the Plant Operations Regulator (POR) is presented for the pressurized water reactor plants. The POR is a digital supervisory limitation control system The POR assures that the plant does not exceed the operating limits by regulating the plant operations through monitoring the operating margins of the critical parameters. The POR is aimed at increasing the operating flexibility which allows the nuclear plant to meet the grid demand in very efficient manner. It responds to the grid demand without penalizing plant availability by limiting the load demand or by modifying the plant control schemes when the operating limits are approached or violated. The POR design concepts were tested using simulation responses of the 1000 MWe pressurized water reactors, Yonggwang Units 3 & 4. The simulation results illustrate that the POR can be used to improve operating flexibility.

  • Distributed wireless sensor network in various environment have characteristic that is surveillance of environment-element and offering usefully military information but there is shortcoming that have some secure risks. Therefore secure service must be required for this sensor network safety. More safe and effective techniques of node administration are required for safe communication between each node. This paper proposes effective cluster-header and clustering techniques in suitable administration techniques of group-key on sensor network. In this paper, first each node transmit residual electric power and authentication message to BS (Base-Station). BS reflects "Validity Authentication Rate" and residual electric power. And it selects node that is more than these regularity values by cluster header. After BS broadcasts information about cluster header in safety and it transmits making a list of information about cluster member node to cluster header. Also, Every rounds it reflects and accumulates "Validity Authentication Rate" of former round. Finally, BS can select more secure cluster header.

  • Compared to terrestrial RF communications, underwater acoustic communications have several limitations such as limited bandwidth, high level of fading effects, and a large underwater propagation delay. In this paper, in order to tackle those limitations of underwater communications and to make it possible to form a large underwater monitoring systems, we propose a hierarchical underwater network architecture, which consists of underwater sensors, clusterheads, underwater/surface sink nodes, autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs). In the proposed architecture, for the maximization of packet delivery ratio and the minimization of underwater sensor's energy consumption, a hybrid routing protocol is used. More specifically, cluster members use Tree based routing to transmit sensing data to clusterheads. AUVs on optimal trajectory movements collect the aggregated data from clusterhead and finally forward the data to the sink node. Also, in order to minimize the maximum travel distance of AUVs, an Integer Linear Programming based algorithm is employed. Performance analysis through simulations shows that the proposed architecture can achieve a higher data delivery ratio and lower energy consumption than existing routing schemes such as gradient based routing and geographical forwarding. • PMU based power grid monitoring and control system, WAMAC (Wide Area Monitoring And Control) system is required system design for accurate power data without error and loss through a system-wide. In the paper, we propose system design that measured data from PMU transmitted without loss to PDC and DSM server. and we propose a method to verify the real-time "data has been transmitted accurately". Verification system has been designed to reflect the WAMAC system. Therefore the WAMAC can enhance the reliability of the analysis of the data, and it can monitor lossless real-time trend data.

  • In general, distribution board, panel board and motor control center can be installed over a wide area such as residence of group, building, schools, factories, ports, airports, water service and sewerage, substation and heavy industries that are used to supply converts the voltages extra high voltage into optimal voltage. There are electrical accidents due to rise of contact temperature, loose contact of bus bar, deterioration of the contact resistance, overtemperatue of the bus bars. In this paper, we propose bus bar joints monitoring system with loose connection of bus bar, measuring the joint resistance of busbars and monitoring internal and external heat. The proposed system can be reduced the electrical accidents by maintenance of busbar joints and the temperature of the conductive contact surface of busbars.

  • DAS and SCADA system are main systems, which operate and manage the power system by using computer and communication technology. But DAS and SCADA have been operated independently in Korea, so there was some time delay in the fault handling and live-line work. To improve that problems, studies on the interface between DAS and SCADA have been needed. From November 2005 to December 2007, the pilot project has been performed in KEPCO's branch offices, as a result, direct method will be applied widely all over the country until 2010 because the operation information of substation users want can be transmitted fast and it is possible to control 43RC directly although the expense for direct method is about 1.3 times larger than that for web method. To improve problems revealed during the pilot project, substation object to object communication method is proposed and interface database automatic generation and interface system diagnosis and logging functions are developed. Interface data point and communication data type are defined, substation single line diagram automatic generation or manual editing function, SCADA monitoring and controlling function, log data managing function are developed in SCADA HMI program. It is expecting to reduce the average time for each outage about 33% and to improve the reliability, efficiency of operation, execution of DAS from automatic load transfer under a fault, and to contribute to export project.

  • With the recent increased risk of livestock disease spread and human infection, livestock disease control has become very important. Consequently, there has been an increased attention on an implantable real-time monitoring and traceability system for individual cattle. Therefore, we have developed a robust monitoring and traceability system based on an implantable MFAN/RFID sensor tag. Our design combines the MFAN technology that is capable of robust wireless communication within cattle sheds and the 900MHz RFID technology that is capable of wireless communication without battery. In MFAN/RFID implantable sensor tag monitoring system, UHF sensor tag is implanted under the skin and accurately monitors the body temperature and biological changes without being affected by external environment. In order to acquire power needed by the tag, we install a MFAN/RFID tranceiver on the neck of cattle. The MFAN coordinator passes through the MFAN node and the RFID-reader-combined MFAN/RFID transceiver and transmits/receives the data and power for the sensor tag. The data stored in the MFAN coordinator is transmitted via the internet to the livestock history monitoring system, where it is stored and managed. By developing this system, we hope to alleviate the problems related to livestock disease control.

  • The DNP3.0 and the IEC61850 are the most important standards in the SCADA systems for the power. Each standard has strength and weakness, so they will coexist for a while. This paper presents a design of the gateway function between DNP3.0 and IEC61850. Both standards use object-oriented modelling methods, so, they have some similarities. However, the DNP3.0 objects are described by object number and index, and the IEC61850 objects are described by name. So there should be mapping function between the object number and index of DNP3.0 objects and the object name of IEC61850 objects. We analyse the communication profiles of both standards, and shows the service-primitive mapping table and the procedure of the gateway function.
