The main purpose of this study is to develop a sprayed FRP repair and strengthening method, which is a new technique for strengthening the existing concrete structures by mixing one of the carbon or glass chopped fibers and one of the epoxy or vinyl ester resins with high-speed compressed air in open air and randomly spraying the mixture onto the concrete surface. At present, the sprayed FRP repair and strengthening method using the epoxy resin has not been fully discussed. In order to investigate the material property of the sprayed FRP, this study carried out tensile tests of the material specimens, which were changed with the combinations of various variables including the length of chopped fiber and the mixture ratio of chopped fiber and resin. These variables were set to have the equal material strength, compared with that of one layer of the FRP sheet. As a result, the optimal length of glass and carbon chopped fibers was fumed out to be 38 mm, and the optimal mixture ratio between chopped fiber and resin was also turned out to be 1 : 2 from each variable. And also, the thickness of the sprayed FRP to have the equal strength to one layer of the FRP sheet was finally calculated. In is study, a series of experiments were carried out to evaluate the strengthening effects of flexural beams, shear beams and damaged beams strengthened with the sprayed FRP method, respectively. The results revealed that the strengthening effects of the flexural and shear specimens were reasonably similar to those of the FRP sheet, and the developed Sprayed FRP technique is able to be used as a strengthening scheme of existing RC building.

In this study, an experimental study was performed to evaluate the shear resistance of cast-in-place(CIP) anchors reinforced with hairpin and stirrup bars under static and dynamic loads. The reinforcement was developed using D6 bars, and the anchors were installed with 20mm diameter and 120mm edge distance. Three tests were conducted for each type of reinforced anchor under static and dynamic shear load with a pulsating frequency of 1 Hz, respectively. It was found that the strength of hairpin-reinforced anchor was affected by the concrete cover and the dynamic tests showed no capacity reduction of anchors compared with static tests. The stirrup-reinforced anchor showed little increase of resistance compared with unreinforced anchor and the resistance under dynamic loading showed nearly same strength by static loading.

Beam-column gravity or Intermediate Moment frames subjected to unexpected large displacements are vulnerable when no seismic details are provided, which is typical. Conversely, economic efficiency of those frames is decreased if unnecessary special detailing is applied as the beam and column size becomes quite large and steel congestion is caused by joint transverse reinforcement in beam-column connections. Moderate seismic design is used in Korea for beam-column connections of buildings with structural walls, which are to be destroyed when the unexpected large earthquake occurs. Nonetheless, performance of such beamcolumn connections may be substantially improved by the addition of steel fibers. This study was conducted to investigate the effect of steel fibers in reinforced concrete exterior beam-column connections and possibility for the replacement of some joint transverse reinforcement. Ten half-scale beam-column connections with non-seismic details were tested under cyclic loads with two cycles at each drift up to 19 cycles. Main test parameters used were the volume ratio of steel fibers (0%, 1%, 1.5%) and joint transverse reinforcement amount. The test results show that maximum capacity, energy dissipation capacity, shear strength and bond condition are improved with the application of steel fibers to substitute transverse reinforcement of beam-column connections. Furthermore, several shear strength equations for exterior connections were examined, including the proposed equation for steel fiber-reinforced concrete exterior connections with non-seismic details.

An experimental study of composite beam with perforated fiber reinforced polymer(FRP) plank as a permanent formwork and the tensile reinforcement was performed. A combined formwork and reinforcement system can facilitate rapid construction of concrete members since no conventional formwork is needed, which requires time consuming assembly and dismantling. In order for a smooth FRP plank to act compositely with the concrete, the surface of the FRP needs to be treated to increase its bond properties. Aggregates were bonded to the FRP plank using a commercially available epoxy and perforated web of plank. No additional flexural or shear reinforcement was provided in the beams. For comparison, two control specimens were tested. One control had no perforated hole in the web of FRP plank and the other had internal steel reinforcing bars instead of the FRP plank. The beams were loaded by central patch load to their ultimate capacity. This study demonstrates that the perforated FRP plank has the potential to serve as a permanent formwork and reinforcing for concrete beam.

Pull-off test is generally used to evaluate bond strength of FRP composite with concrete at job site. However, some damages on FRP composites can not be avoided during pull-off test and moreover test range of pull-off strength is limited by maximum tensile strength of concrete. Accordingly, it is required to set-up a test method that can evaluate mechanical properties of structural adhesive indirectly prior to pull-off test. In this study, the standard test methods for structural adhesive which can simply evaluate mechanical performance of adhesive were suggested through comparative experiments from each different standard in various countries. Particularly, gluing thickness of adhesive in tensile lap-shear tests, the section dimension of compression and bending test specimens become unified, and standard test specimen size is achieved by test results.
This paper presents the modeling of geosynthetic-reinforced soils and discusses the reinforcement effect arising from confining the dilatancy deformation of the soil by geosynthetics. A series of compressive shear tests for compacted sandy soil specimens wrapped by geosynthetics are carried out by quantitatively examining the geosynthetic-reinforcement effect, and it occurred from the confinement of the dilative deformation of compacted soils during shearing. In the test, the initial degree of compaction is changed for each series of sandy soil specimens so that each series has different degree of dilatancy characteristics. Herein, the axial forces working to the geosynthetics so as to prevent dilative deformation of compacted soils during shearing are measured. Furthermore, the elasto-plastic modeling of compacted soils and a rational determination procedure of input parameters needed in the elasto-plastic modeling are presented. In this paper, the subloading yielding surface(Hashiguchi(1989)) is introduced to the elasto-plastic modeling which could describe the irreversible deformation characteristics of compacted soils during shearing. Finally, the elasto-plastic finite element simulation is carried out and the geosynthetic-reinforcement effect is discussed.
This paper investigates the mechanical characteristics of monofilament-reinforced bottom ash mixtures for recycling dredged soil. Reinforced bottom ash mixture is a lightweight soil added with monofilament in order to increase its shear strength. Test specimens were fabricated by various mixing conditions including monofilament content, its length and its diameter. Then several series of unconfined compression tests and direct shear tests were performed to investigate mechanical characteristics of reinforced lightweight soil. The experimental results indicated that stress-strain behaviors of reinforced lightweight soil were strongly influenced by mixing conditions of monofilament content, its length and diameter. The compressive strength of reinforced lightweight soil generally increased by adding monofilament. In this test, the maximum increase in compressive strength was obtained at 0.5% content and 4cm length of monofilament. These results were similar to those of direct shear tests. The unconfined compressive strength of reinforced lightweight soil with monofilament of 0.25mm in diameter was greater than that of reinforced lightweight soil with monofilament of 0.5mm in diameter.
The shear behavior of simply supported reinforced concrete deep beams subject to concentrated loads has been scrutinized experimentally to verify the influence of the structural parameters such as concrete strength, shear span-depth ratio, and web reinforcements. A total of 42 reinforced concrete deep beams with compressive strengths of 250 kg/$cm^2$ and 500 kg/$cm^2$ has been tested at the laboratory under one or two-point top loading. The shear span-depth ratio have been taken as three types of 0.4, 0.8 and 1.2, and the horizontal and vertical shear reinforcements ratio, ranging from 0.0 to 0.57 percent respectively. In the tests, the effects of the shear span-depth ratio, concrete strength and web reinforcements on the shear strength and crack initiation and propagation have been carefully checked and analyzed. From the tests, it has been observed that the failures of all specimens were due to shear and the shear behaviors of specimens were greatly affected by inclined cracks from the load application points to the supports in shear span. The load bearing capacities have changed significantly depending on the shear span ratio, and the efficiency of horizontal shear reinforcements were increased as the shear span-depth ratio decreased. The test results have been analyzed and compared with the formulas proposed by previous researchers and the design equation from the code. While the shear strengths obtained from the tests showed around 1.4 and 1.9 times higher than the values calculated by CIRIA guide and the domestic code, they were closely coincident with the formulas given by de Paiva's equation.
