The potential shear strength of reinforced concrete beams decreases after flexural yielding due to the decrease of the effective compressive strength of concrete in plastic hinge zone. A truss model considering shear deterioration in the plastic hinge zone was proposed in order to evaluate the ductile capacity of reinforced concrete beams failing in shear after flexural yielding This model can determine the potential shear strength of the beam by using a truss model. The potential shear strength gradually decreases as the increase of the axial strain of member. When the calculated potential shear strength decreases up to the flexural yielding strength, the corresponding rotation angle is defined as the ductile capacity of the beam. The predicted ductile capacity of reinforced concrete beams is shown to be in a good agreement with experimental results.
As composite materials, the addition of steel fiber with concrete significant)y improves the engineering properties of structural members, notably shear strength and ductility. Flexural strength, fatigue strength, and the capacity to resist cracking are also enhanced. Especially the strengthening effect of steel fiber in shear is to prevent the brittle shear failure. In this study, shear-strengthening effect of steel fiber in RC short columns were investigated from the literature surveys and 10th specimem's member test results. From the test results, following conclusions can be made; the maximum enhancement of shear-strengthening effect can be achieved at about 1.5 % of steel fiber contents, shear strength and ductility capacity were improved remarkably in comparison to stiffness and energy dissipation capacity in steel fiber reinforced concrete.

An experimental study was performed to investigate the maximum energy dissipation and the ductility capacity of shear-dominated steel plate walls with thin web plates. Three specimens of three-story plate walls with thin web plates were tested. The parameters for the test specimens were the aspect ratio of the web plate and the shear strength of the column. A concentrically braced frame and a moment-resisting frme were a also tested for comparison. The steel plate walls exhibited much better ductility and energy dissipation capacity than the concentrically braced frame and the moment-resisting frame. The results showed that unlike other structural systems, the sh as well as strength, and can therefore be used as an effective earthquake-resisting system. A method of predicting the energy dissipation capacity of a steel plate wall was proposed.

A slab-column connection is susceptible to brittle punching shear failure, which may result in the necessity of shear reinforcement. In the present study, to investigate the earthquake resistance of newly developed lattice shear reinforcement, experimental study was performed for interior slab-column connections subjected to cyclic loading. For comparison, specimens with existing shear reinforcement method such as stud rail, shear band and stirrup were also tested. The test result showed that the structural capacity of the lattice shear reinforcement was superior to those of the existing methods and was greater than the code-specified strength. On the other hand, the existing methods did not significantly improve the shear strength of the specimens. The shear strengths of the existing methods were much less than the code-specified shear strength.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the structural performance of doubly reinforced composite beams with steel fiber concretes and steel angles. For this purpose, total 6 specimens whose variables are shear span-to-depth ratio, existence of shear reinforcement, and shear reinforcement details, are made and tested. All specimens are constructed of steel fiber concretes with specified compressive strength of 30 MPa and steel fiber volumn content of 1%. From the experimental results, structural performance of doubly reinforced composite beams are evaluated in terms of strength, stiffness, ductility, and energy absorbing capacity. For the better structural performance, it is recommended that the composite beam is designed with diagonal shear reinforcement.

In the design of composite structures, shear connectors such as headed stud, channel, perforated plate, etc, are commonly used to transfer longitudinal shear forces across the steel-concrete interface. Many researches have been conducted to improve the characteristics of different types of shear connector. This paper presents the results of 11 push-out tests performed on the new perforated rib connectors with shearing bars embedded in concrete slab under static loads. The results obtained from these tests are as following : 1) The bearing plate welded on both sides of perforated rib plate improves the stiffness and strength. 2) The capacity of perforated connectors is influenced primarily by the transverse reinforcements and shearing bars.

An experimental investigation on the behavior of reinforced concrete coupling beams is presented. The test variables are the span-to-depth ratio, the ratio of flexural reinforcements and the ratio of shear rebars. The distribution of arch action and truss action which compose the mechanism of shear resistance is discussed. The increase of plastic deformation after yielding transforms the shear transfer by arch action into by truss action. This study proposes the deformation model for reinforced concrete coupling beams considering the bond slip of flexural reinforcement. The strain distribution model of shear reinforcements and flexural reinforcements based on test results is presented. The yielding of flexural reinforcements determines yielding states and the ultimate states of reinforced concrete coupling beam are defined as the ultimate compressive strain of struts and the degradation of compressive strength due to principal tensile strain of struts. The flexural-shear failure mechanism determines the ultimate state of RC coupling beams. It is expected that this model can be applied to displacement-based design methods.

Nonseismic designed RC frame have a possibility of shear failure because of deficiencies of reinforcing details. To model the shear failure in numerical analysis, shear strength degradation models which Include Moehle's and ATC 40 are compared and applied to push-over analysis. For numerical analysis, three storied building frame is selected and designed according to Korean Concrete Design Code(2003). As results, It is shown that Moehle's shear strength degradation model estimates the shear strength lower than NZSEE model and has less variation than ATC 40 model and all the shear strengths of models are greater than the nominal shear strength of ACI 318. Also, from the numerical analysis, it is pointed out that there may be great difference in lateral drift capacity if a different shear strength model is used. And the capacity can be severely underestimated if the restraining model of plastic rotation of ATC 40 is used, compared to the use of shear spring model for shear degradation.
Existing shear wall system may cause ductility fallen to the structure which it is on because relatively weak concrete core would easy to be damaged. In this study, steel hysteresis dampers whose stiffness is higher than existing coupling beam and whose strength is easy to change depending on design load was used in coupling beam. The steel hysteresis damper was proposed for the shape connected in double in series, from this, several static test were conducted to verify structural performance of the damper. FEM analysis was also performed, then design equation were suggested.
