This research establishes design standards for vortex reduction devices (VRDs) aimed at minimizing underwater radiated noise by mitigating horseshoe vortex (HSV) and root vortex (RV) generated at the junction of appendages and the hull of underwater vehicles. Initial analysis replaced the influence of appendage dimensions and flow velocity with the Reynolds number by verifying the Reynolds similarity of vortex flows. The three-dimensional surfaces of VRDs were parameterized using Bezier curves. Optimal length-to-height ratios were identified by evaluating the vortex reduction performances of VRDs with various dimensions. Ultimately, non-dimensional design standards were derived for VRDs, ensuring effective vortex reduction across any appendage, thereby enhancing stealth performance.

This study aimed to investigate the seasonal patterns of multiple bar formation in summer and flattening in winter on the macrotidal Sinduri beach in Taean, and to understand the processes their formation and subsequent flattening. Beach profiling has been conducted regularly over the last four years using a VRS-GPS system. Surface sediment samples were collected seasonally along the transectline, and grain size analyses were performed. Tidal current data were acquired using a TIDOS current observation system during both winter and summer. The Sinduri macrotidal beach consists of two geomorphic units: an upper high-gradient beach face and a lower gentler sloped intertidal zone. High berms and beach cusps did not develop on this beach face. The approximately 400-m-wide intertidal zone comprises distinct 2-5 lines of multiple bars. Mean grain sizes of sand bars range from 2.0 to 2.75 phi, corresponding to fine sands. Mean sizes show shoreward coarsening trend. Regular beach-profiling survey revealed that the summer profile has a multi-barred morphology with a maximum of five bar lines, whereas, the winter profile has a non-barred, flat morphology. The non-barred winter profiles likely result from flattening by scour-and-fill processes during winter. The growth of multiple bars in summer is interpreted to be formed by a break-point mechanism associated with moderate waves and the translation of tide levels, rather than the standing wave hypothesis, which is stationary at high tide. The break-point hypothesis for multi-bars is supported by the presence of the largest bar at mean sea-level, shorter bar spacing toward the shore, irregular bar spacing, strong asymmetry of bars, and the 10-30 m shoreward migration of multi-bars.

We investigated the phytoplankton community from June to September 1997 in the waters off Kohung, Korea where red tides dominated by harmful dinoflagellates had occurred from August to September or October since 1995. We took water samples five times from 5 depths at 6 or less stations in this study period. The most dominant harmful dinoflagellate during the red tide which had outbroken on August 24, 1997 was Gyrodinium impudicum, not Cochlodinium polykrikoides. On August 21 just before the harmful red tide occurred the abundance of G. impudicum at the inner bay station, 90cells $ml^{-1}$, was higher than that at the outer bay station. However, on August 27 just after the red tide had outbroken, the abundance of G. impudicum at the inner bay station did not increase, whereas that at the outer bay increased rapidly and reached to the maximum of 30,000 cells $ml^{-1}$. Instead, diatoms such as Skeleltonema costatum, Chaetoceros pseudocurvisetus, Pseudonitzschia pungens rapidly increased at the inner bay station where fresh water from lands has reached. The high abundance of diatoms might have inhibited the growth of red tide dinoflagellates at this station. The transport of already formed red tide patches from offshore areas, aggregation of scattered cells driven by physical forces, and/or competition between diatom and dinoflagellates might be responsible for this appearance of dense red tide patches at the outer bay station.

Purpose: This study was designed to help to provide the criteria of the esthetic smile in oromaxillary region on twenties, fifties and sixties. Materials and methods: The facial straight photographs of 33 adults (male 15, female 18, mean age 27.2 years old) and 20 seniors (male 7, female 13, mean age 55.6 years old) in resting and smile position were taken. The measurements and proportion of lip-teeth relation during smile were statistically analyzed, and survey of freshmen and seniors who belong to School of Dentistry, Chonnam National University were taken to select the best esthetic smile among the photographs. Results: In the relationship between the upper lip and the teeth, average smile was the most frequent, and mean of smile line ratio was 1.090 in young group and 0.90 in old group. The correlation between the buccal corridor ratio and exposed teeth count was inversed. At smile, most frequently exposed tooth was the second premolar (63.64%) in young gourp and the first premolar (35.00%) in old group. The correlation between the upper lip change ratio and exposed clinical crown length of maxillary central incisor was inverse, but there was no correlation between the lower lip change ratio and exposed clinical crown length of maxillarycentral incisor. Conclusion: In the result of survey, the students selected the case exposed to the first premolar as the most esthetic smile. The most esthetic smile between full facial photograph and the lip only photograph by the freshmen was different, but that by seniors was identical.
This study was conducted to investigate host plant, bionomics, and damage on Bamboo Leaf Rollers in Chonnam area. Species of the leaf rollers attacking the bamboo trees in Chonnam area were Microstega jessica (Butler) and Sinibotys evenoralis (Walker). Among these species, M. jessica (B.) and S. evenoralis (W.) were observed in Damyang but S. evenoralis (W.) alone was found in Naju and Hwasoon. Among the 4 host plant species observed, Phyllostachys nigra var. henonis S., and P. nigra M. were first recorded as host plants of M. jessica (B.), and P. nigra var. henonis (S.) as host plant of S. evenoralis (W.). The occurrence of the M. jessica (B). was once a year with the peak about late May, whereas the occurrence of S. evenoralis (W.) was 2 times a year and the peaks were early June and mid-July, respectively. The average periods of each stage of M. jessica (B.) were 8 days for egg, 293 days for larva, 16 days for pupa, and the longevity of the adult was 12 days for females and 9 days for males. The average periods of each stage of S. evenoralis (W.) were in 1st generation, 11 days for egg, 28 days for larva, 12 days for pupa, and the longevity of the adults was 18 days for females and 15 days for males; and 2nd generation was 7 days for egg, 261 days for larva, 20 days for pupa, and the longevity of the adults was 11 days for females and 10 days for males. The time of most adult emergence of M. jessica (B.) was from 6 p.m. to 4 a.m. and the peak was 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. M. jessica (B,) overwintered as 6th instals in Bamboo shoot sheath but S. evenoralis (W.) overwintered as $1st{\sim}2nd$ instals on the tree leaves of Bamboo. The percentage of damaged leaves with different heights of Bamboo trees were 67.1% at upper portion, 19.0% at middle portion, 14.0% at lower portion. The percentage of damaged loaves with different Bamboo species was 57.0% on P. nigra var. henonis S., 36.5% on P. bambusoides S. et Z., 14.5% on P. pubescens M.. It was showed highly significant negative correlation between percentage of damaged bamboo leaves an tree growth stages.($r=-0.739^{**}$)
This study analyzed current use of 2-block haircut styles and preferences for accurate understanding of the haircut and enhancement of its efficiency. For this, a questionnaire survey was performed against 441 men in their 20~40s living in Jeollanam-do from June 27 to July 6, 2019. A total of 430 copies were used for final analysis. The collected data were analyzed by frequency analysis and cross-tabulation analysis, using SPSS 21.0, and the results found the followings: When asked about the factors affecting their choice of the haircut, 58.4% (20~40s in age) responded, 'my own decision'. Second, 61.2% said that they were interested in a 2-block haircut, and 54.7% responded that they had the haircut before. Among them, 92.3% said that they were satisfied with the trendy undercut. The above results confirm that men's appearance management is now essential, considering changes in social environments. People envision their hairstyle and visit a hair salon based on their own will, not after recommendation from their acquaintances. Many customers prefer a 2-block haircut because they believe it looks good on them. In addition, they choose the easy-to-care undercut to have a clean and neat image. It is anticipated that the study results would make a contribution to suggesting basic academic data and enhancing sales in a 2-lock haircut which is expected to remain popular. Therefore, it proposes in-depth studies on new 2-block haircut styles for women.
We investigated whether external environmental factors acted as a trigger for flowering in the draft bamboo (Sasa borealis (Hack.) Makino) blooming area of Mt. Baekwoon located in Gwangyang, South Jeolla Province. We then considered the cause for flowering, flowering patterns and life history strategies of the draft bamboo based on the investigation. There were no differences in soil, physical conditions, and light amount between the draft bamboo flowering and non-flowering areas. The precipitation and temperature of the areas in Korea and Japan where it blossomed from 2014 to 2017 were similar to the normal year values (for the past 30 years). Moreover, most of the draft bamboo died after flowering on a large scale, but some did not, or some culms were developed again. In other words, the draft bamboo bloomed simultaneously regardless of external environmental factors, and most of the culms were dead, but some were left alive. Therefore, it is considered that the flowering is triggered by the specific genes (referred as to clock genes) expressed periodically by a biological clock rather than the external environmental factors. Meanwhile, the draft bamboos generally bloom on a large scale by synchronizing with other ones in the distance but may also bloom several times separately on a small scale. It may be a kind of an insurance system established to disperse the risk of failed sexual propagation when flowering once in a lifetime. The results reveal that the long-period monocarpy of the draft bamboo has been strengthened to optimize the sexual propagation to overcome the increased environmental instability caused by the expansion of distribution of tropical bamboos and bamboo species to the temperate regions.
The under developing estuarial port Bupsung is bounded by a river and the sea, and has several well developed tidal lands, where the littoral drift is strong due to the tide and the river discharge. The study area is located at the inner part of a concave bay and has a large tidal range due to the water discharge through the Watan-chun and Junnam-dike. In beginning stage of the ocean physical impact study, the tidal modeling is very important and difficult especially in this area. Moreover, we need a model experiment after the verification of the formulated model based on ocean survey. In this study, we constructed a numerical model to the Bupsung port coastal boundaries, which varies with the past and future development and made simulation with it. The result after development shows that there is a decrease of velocity on flood current and a increase on Ebb current and the minor variation of the tide level, compared with before development.
A clinical analysis was performed on 326 cases of the non-penetrating rib fractures experienced in the department of thoracic and cardiovascular surgery, Chosun University Hospital and 102 cases of the non-penetrating rib fractures those has been admitted and treated in the department of thoracic and cardiovascular surgery, Jeonnam Hwasoon lung-ang Hospital during a period from Jan. 1994 to Dec. 1995. 1. Sex ratio was 3.4:1 in urban and 3.6:1 in rural communities with male predominance. 2. Most· common cause were traffic accident in both communities. 3. Hemothorax, pneumothorax and hemopneumothorax which needed thoracostomy were observed iii 146 cases(44.7%) in the urban and 12 cases(11.7%) in the rural communities. 4. Left thorax was the spell site of rib fractures in both communiti s. 5. Rib fracture was prevalent from 3rd to 6th rib in both communities. 6. Open thoracotomy was performed in 37 cases(11.3%) in urban and 3 cases(2.9%) in rural communities. 7. Overall mortality was 4.29%(14 cases) in urban area and, 1.96%(2 cases) in rural communities, and cause of death were hypovolemic shock, brain edema, sepsis, respiratory failure, asphyxia, and cardiogenic shock.
The 234 patients who received treatment of midfacial fractures at the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery of Chonnam University Hospital from Jan. 1, 1992 to Dec. 31, 1996 were analyzed clinicostastically. Results obtained were as follows ; Male predominated over females by a ratio of 5.3 to 1. The frequently developing age groups were first 3rd (25%), 4th (21%) and the 2nd (18%) decade on succession. The peakest month was the August (16%), and May (11%), September (9%), October (9%). When it comes to the reasons for in-patients, traffic accident was predominant to 38%. In the 234 cases of midfacial fractures, zygomaticomaxillary complex fracture was the most by 37%. The most common with injury show that facial laceration marked by 49%, neurologic injury 24%, and mandibular fracture 20% each by each. About the time from injury onset to operation, 55% of cases were less than a week while the others (45%) more than a week. 3 plates were used for operation : 2 for zygoma or maxilla fracture and 3 for zygomatiomaxillary complex fracture. especially 4 for Le Fort I fracture, 5.5 for Le Fort I, II ; I, III ; II, III fracture, 7 for Le Fort I,II,III fracture were used. 20 patients (8%) appealed their complication and the most common was reported as infection. Above results suggest that early diagnosis and treatment of fracture site, systemic condition and associated injuries are necessary, and coorperative treatment with medical department should be performed.
