Removal characteristics of submicron particles with electrostatic precipitator under $CO_2$ rich condition ($CO_2$ 농후 조건에서 전기집진장치의 Submicron 입자 제거 특성)

  • Removal of particles at rich $CO_2$ condition has been important in the gas cleaning for $CO_2$ capture in Oxy-fuel combustion. Electrostatic precipitators (ESPs) have been widely used to remove particles in exhaust gases from present air combustion. However, few studies on characteristics of ESPs under a $CO_2$ rich gas condition have been conducted. In this study, we investigated integration of electrostatic precipitators (ESP) for removing submicron particles along with corona discharge characteristics and collection efficiency of submicron particles at $CO_2$ rich condition. The overall performance of ESP is represented by collection efficiency as function of energy consumption. The experiment results showed that higher the concentration of $CO_2$ gas, the corona discharge currents were lower at the same applied voltages and the spark over occurred at lower voltages, and the collection efficiency of submicron particles under 50, 80% $CO_2$ conditions was much lower than that under 100% Air.

  • Gore-Tex Membrane은 Ptfe(Polytetra Fluoroetylene)를 특수가공하여 극히 미세한 구조를 가지는 연속다공질체로 만들어 습건식용 산업용 여과재로 활용함으로써 그동안 사용되어 오던 종래의 심층여과방식의 여과포로서는 도저히 이룰 수 없었던 표면여과 기능을 갖춤에 따라 높은 집진효율이나 낮은 악력손실로 동시에 운전을 가능하게 한 새로운 첨단여과포로써 각종 산업분야에 이미 널리 적용되고 있다. 근래 Boiler, 소각로, 제철, 제강용로 등의 고온용 Bag Filter 소요가 증가됨에 따라 보다 효율적이고 경제적인 고온용 여과포에 대한 관심이 높아지고 있으며, 특히 소각로, 발전설비, Cement 생산공정 중 Kilin 공정 등에 주로 사용되어오던 전기 집진기 (Electrostatic Precipitator)의 집진효율이 Dioxine이나 Furan 등의 새로운 규제와 중금속, 혹은 분진들에 대해 강화되는 환경 규제치에 적응하기 어려워짐에 따라 Bag Filter로의 전환, 개선방안이 많이 연구되고 있으며 이미 활용되어지는 부분도 있는 바 이에 대한 새로운 적용방법 등을 소개하고자 한다.

  • GORE-TEX MEMBRANE은 PTFF(POLYTETRA FLUOROETHYLENE)를 특수가공하여 극히 미세한 구조를 가지는 연속다공질체로 만들어 습,건식용 산업용 여과재로써 활용하므로써 그동안 사용되어오던 종래의 심층여과방식의 여과포로서는 도저히 이룰 수 없었던 표면여과기능을 갖춤에 따라 높은 집진효율이나 낮은압력손실로 동시에 운전을 가능하게한 새로운 기능의 첨단여과포로써 각종산업분야에 이미 널리 적용되고 있다. 근래 BOILER, 소각로, 제철, 제강용로등의 고온용 BAG FILTER 소요가 증가됨에 따라 보다 효율적이고 경제적인 고온용 여과포에 대한 관심이 높아지고 있으며, 특히, 소각로, 발전설비, CEMENT 생산공정중 KILN 공정등에 주로 사용되어오던 전기 집진기 (ELECTROSTATIC PRECIPITATOR)의 집진효율이 DIOXINE 이나 FURAN 등의 새로운 규제와 중금속, 혹은 분진들에 대해 강화되는 환경 규제치에 적응하기 어려워짐에 따라 BAG FILTER로의 전환/개선 방안이 많이 연구되고 있으며 이미 활용되어지는 부분도 있는바 이에 대한 새로운 적용방법등을 소개하고자 한다.

Dust Removal Efficiency and Operation Characteristics of Metal Filters for Coal Gasification Fines and Standard Dust Sample (금속필터를 사용한 석탄가스화 분진 및 표준 분진의 집진 효율과 운전특성)

  • Demand for improving dust removal efficiency in coal power plants and the dust removal requirement to the level of capturing fine particulate matter and ultrafine particles have been increasing. While bag filter and electrostatic precipitator (ESP) are typically used for dust removal in the processes operating at atmospheric pressure, metal filters or ceramic filters are employed for dust which is produced at high temperature/pressure system as in coal gasification. For dust removal at the high temperature/pressure conditions, two metal filters of five compressed/sintered layers were manufactured and applied to analyze the dust removal characteristics. Manufactured metal filters exhibited more than 99% dust removal efficiency on coal gasification fine particulates in mass basis. To evaluate the fine particulate removal efficiency of less than $2.5{\mu}m$, JIS standard fine sample was used and confirmed the removal efficiencies of 97% and 70~82% on the fine particulates of $1{\sim}2.5{\mu}m$ size range. For the size range of less than $1{\mu}m$, dust removal efficiency of manufactured metal filters significantly degraded with smaller particle size. Improving methods are proposed to overcome the limitations in applying to fine dust of less than $1{\mu}m$.

  • 본고에서는 가까운 장래의 디-젤자동차의 증가추세와 그로부터 배출되는 배진량, 배진의 물성, 위험성, 배진의 규제에 대하여 소개하고, 나아가 그 제거법에 대해 세계적으로 연구개발되고 있는 여과장치(filter), 스크라버(scrubbers) 및 전기집진장치(electrostatic precipitators)에 관하여 간략히 소개하고자 한다.

Characteristics of Nano Particle Precipitation and Residual Ozone Decomposition for Two-Stage ESP with DBD (배리어 유전체 방전형 2단 전기집진기의 나노입자 집진 및 잔류 오존 제거 특성)

  • DBD(Dielectric Barrier Discharge) plasma in air is well established for the production of large quantities of ozone and is more recently being applied to aftertreatment processes for HAPs(Hazardous Air Pollutants). Although DBD high electron density and energy, its potential use as nano and sub-micron sized particle charging are not well known. Aim of this work is to determine design and operating parameters of a two-stage ESP with DBD. DBD and ESP are used as particle charger and precipitator, respectively. We measured particle precipitation efficiency of two-stage ESP and estimated ozone decomposition of both pelletized $MnO_2$ catalyst and pelletized activated carbon. To examine the particle precipitation efficiency, nano and sub-micron sized particles were generated by a tube furnace and an atomizer. AC voltage of $7{\sim}10$ kV(rms) and 60 Hz is used as DBD plasma source. DC -8 kV is applied to the ESP for particle precipitation. The overall particle collection efficiency for the two-stage ESP with DBD is over 85 % under 0.64 m/s face velocity. Ozone decomposition efficiency with pelletized $MnO_2$ catalyst or pelletized activated carbon packed bed is over 90 % when the face velocity is under 0.4 m/s in dry air.

  • The characteristics of flow and particle collection for an electrocyclone with a central wire inside a high efficiency Stairmand cyclone was numerically analysed. Turbulent flow field was modeled by the Reynolds stress model and solved with an FVM code FLUENT. Particle motion and in-situ charging were simultaneously solved by a Lagrangian integration with time. The flow field obtained was in good agreement with experiments in the outer region. The characteristics of collection enhancement due to electric force were well manifested and well explained based on first principles. The effect of the in-situ charging process was very similar to the case of a simplified assumption of saturated charging, and the effect of the hopper was proved negligible.

  • In this study an experimental research has been conducted to reduce NOx and smoke emission from diesel engine exhaust gas simultaneously by application of corona discharge type electrostatic precipitator(ESP). The ESP was installed between exhaust gas silencer and outlet terminal of exhaust gas system. The operating conditions as input parameters taken in this experiment were corona power input, gas velocity and equivalence ratio of gas. It was found that the corona discharge type ESP has notable effect on reducing smoke in exhaust gas but appeared to bring slight effect on reducing NOx.

  • An aftertreatment system of diesel exhaust gas was attempted to extract particulate matters. The system consisted of a corona-less electrostatic precipitator to agglomerate soot particles and a counter-flow cyclone to collect them. When the effect of high voltage was examined at different configuration of electrode plates, the case of positive 15kV at both plates showed the maximum reduction of 38% in diesel smoke level. However, the back pressure became quite high as engine speed increased, so that minimizing pressure drop in cyclone should be studied with improving collection efficiency of soot particles.
