  • Free fatty acid and total saponin, which were extracted from the spent media and colony of the strain Phizopus delemar Rh-1, were qualitatively examined by GLC and spectroscopic methods and compared with these of intact ginseng media. The 18, 18, and 14 free fatty acids were respectively identified from the control, spent media and colony. Among them, $iC_{12:0},\;C_{16:2},\;C_{17:0},\;C_{18:3}\; and\;C_{20:0}$ acids were not detectable from the colony. In add ition, $C_{16:2}\;and\;C_{20:0}$ peaks were rot found in the spent media and control, respectively. The isible absorption spectra of free fatty acids and total saponins in the control, spent media and colony were invariable. In contrast, however, the infrared and ultraviolet absorption spectra showed significant spectral variations, particularly in the it finger-print region, demonstrating that the ginseng components were considerably utilized by the strain Rhizopus delemar Rh-1.

  • Collapsed perflurostearic acid (PFS) films were prepared on the different pH and the various metal ion ($Na^+$, $Ca^{2+}$, $La^{3+}$) containing subphase using Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) trough. The degree of ionization of collapsed PFS film formed from floating monolayer has been determined by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy. The intensity of C = O of -COOH peaks of collapsed PFS decreased with increasing pH of subphase. The order of ionization of collapsed PFS on the subphase of the same pH was $La^{3+}$ > $Ca^{2+}$ > $Na^+$. The degree of ionization of collapsed PFS on the Deionized (D.I.) water subphase is above 50% even at subpahse pH 3, which is much higher degree of ionization than that of stearic acid.

  • The electronic structure of cis-$[Cr(cyclam)Cl_2]Cl$ has been investigated by the emission and excitation spectroscopy at 77K, and infrared and visible spectroscopy at room temperature. The ten electronic transitions due to spin-allowed and spin-forbidden are assigned. The zero-phonon line in the excitation spectrum splits into two components by $139\;cm^{-1}$, and it can be reproduced by modern ligand field theory. According to the results of ligand field analysis, we can confirm that nitrogen atoms of the cyclam ligand have a strong ${\sigma}$-donor character, but chloride ligand has weak ${\sigma}-$ and ${\pi}-$donor properties toward chromium(III) ion.

  • The curing time of the phenolic resin for the processing of brake pad is very important factor for reducing the processing cost. The curing time could be investigated by examining the reaction time of the phenolic resin and hexamethylenediamine. The reaction time has been studied by FT-IR, Differential Scanning Calolimetric Analysis (DSC), and Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA).

A Quantitative Study for Hydrothermal Alteration Zones using Short Wavelength Infrared Spectrometry (단파장적외선 분광분석법을 이용한 열수변질대 정량화 연구)

  • Advanced argillic, argillic, and phyllic zones are the most important alteration patterns to predict the hidden ore body during exploration of hydrothermal deposits. We examined the quantitative relationship between the spectral absorption characteristics and the mineral content of the synthetic mixtures such as alunite-kaolinite and illite-kaolinite using short wavelength infrared (SWIR) spectroscopy. In the alunite-kaolinite mixtures, the spectral absorption characteristics of the alunite was highly correlated with the Hull quotient reflectance(0.99) and the kaolinite had the highest correlation with the Gaussian peak(0.92). Illite-kaolinite mixtures are essential for Gaussian deconvolution because of the overlap of absorption region. Illite and kaolinite mixtures indicate the high correlation of 0.93 and 0.98, respectively. The error ranges in the alunite-kaolinite(8%) and illite-kaolinite mixtures(5%) derived from SWIR were smaller than the ones(29% and 26%) obtained from X-ray diffraction(Rietveld) analysis. These results show that SWIR spectroscopic analysis is more reliable than XRD Rietveld analysis in terms of quantification of allowed minerals.

Prediction of the Digestibility and Energy Value of Corn Silage by Near Infrared Reflectance Spectroscopy (근적외선분광법을 이용한 옥수수 사일리지의 소화율 및 에너지 평가)

  • This study was carried out to explore the accuracy of Near Infrared Reflectance Spectroscopy (NIRS) fer the prediction of digestibility and energy value of corn silages. The spectral data were regressed against a range of digestibility and energy parameters using modified partial least squares(MPLS) multivariate analysis in conjunction with first and second order derivatization, with scatter correction procedure(SNV-Detrend) to reduce the effect of extraneous noise. Calibration models for NIRS measurements gave multivariate correlation coefficients of determination$(R^2)$ and standard errors of cross validation of 0.92(SECV 1.73), 0.91(SECV 1.13) and 0.93(SECV 1.74) for in vitro dry matter digestibility(IVDMD), in vitro true digestibility(IVTD), and cellulase dry matter digestibility(CDMD), respectively. The standard error of prediction(SEP) and the multiple correlation coefficient of validation$(R^2v)$ on the validation set(n=39) was used in comparing the prediction accuracy. The SEP value was 0.30(TDN), 0.01(NEL), and 0.01(ME). The relative ability of NIRS to predict digestibility and energy value was very good for CDMD, total digestible nutrients(TDN), net energy fer lactation(NEL) and metabolizable energy(ME). This paper shows the potential of NIRS to predict the digestibility and energy value of con silage as a routine method in feeding programmes and for giving advice to farmers.

  • Morphology and infrared absorbing characteristics of Pt-black prepared by electroplating have been investigated with XRD, SEM, and IR spectrophotometer. The Pt later was coated on Au-coated alumina/glass substrates for 1-5 min at pH 1.0-1.5, where a solution of platinum chloride and lead acetate was used as the electrolyte. At the electrical current density of 20-50 mA/㎠, the Pt-black showed a dendritic growth which was characterized by a "tree" shape. Absorptivity of above 90% at IR radiation of 10 m was observed for the Pt absorbing layer with an area density of ≥1.3mg/㎠.

  • Using FT-IR, we determined the depth of silylated layers produced from various gas-phase-silylation conditions was proposed by using Fourier Transform Infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopic analysis. The depth of silylated layer was determined from absorbance measurments of the significant peaks (Si-O-ph, Si-C, Si-H) of FT-IR spectra with background spectrum subtraction method. And the results were compared with thickness measurments of SEM. The results were well agree with SEM. It found to be well suited for determining silylation process window.

Evaluation of Feed Values for Whole Crop Rice Using Near Infrared Reflectance Spectroscopy (근적외선분광법을 이용한 사료용 벼의 사료가치 평가)

  • In this study, whole crop rice samples were used to develop near-infrared reflectance (NIR) equations to estimate six forage quality parameters: Moisture, crude protein (CP), neutral detergent fiber (NDF), acid detergent fiber (ADF), Ash and relative feed value (RFV). A population of 564 whole crop rice representing a wide range in chemical parameters was used in this study. Undried finely chopped whole crop rice samples were scanned at 1 nm intervals over the wavelength range 680-2500 nm and the optical data recorded as log 1/Reflectance (log 1/R). NIRS calibrations were developed by means of partial least-squares (PLS) regression. The correlation coefficients of cross-validation (R2cv) and standard error of cross-validation (SECV) for whole crop rice calibration were 0.98 (SECV 1.81%) for moisture, 0.89 (SECV 0.50%) for CP, 0.86 (SECV 1.79%) for NDF, 0.89 (SECV 0.86%) for ash, and 0.84 (SECV 5.21%) for RFV on a dry matter (%), respectively. The NIRS calibration equations developed in this study will be useful in predicting whole crop rice quality for these six quality parameters.
