We observed performance of segregation in flower color and type of hybrids which obtained from crossing of intra species in Hibiscus syriacus. Obtained results were followings. 1. The purple flower was dominance to the white one and this was presumed that was owing to cytoplasmic heredity. 2. Single and double petal of flower was presumed that was originated from factors of Ss and dd. 3. There was not variation in flower color and type of $F_1$ hybrid between 4 n and 2 n Hibiscus syriacus. 4. There were many variation of flower color among $F_1$ hybrids which abtained in open pollination of Hibiscus syriacus. 5. We could observe many flowers variegated with red color among $F_1$ hybrids which obtained in crossing between double petal flowers of Hibiscus syriacus.

Ruby is one of the most favor colored gem, for beautiful red tone, be high in scarcity value. However, rubies with high quality are produced in restricted regions, such as in Thailand, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, and Tanzania etc., and they have been gradually exhausted by mining for a long period. Therefore, improving qualities of low level rubies with various treatments is arising an alternative way to obtain better rubies. Gemological and mineralogical properties of the natural ruby from Tanzanian were studied with heat treatments. Those characteristics were compared between only heat and adding flux materials under heating. Tanzanian raw rubies were applied a heat treatment ($1,600^{\circ}C$ for 6 hours). However, chromameter and UV-Vis analyses found that a simple heat treatment is inappropriated for the Tanzanian ruby. Although $Cr^{3+}$ containing for red color in the ruby increased with heat treatment, the ruby displays dark medium red because of Fe in the ruby as a form of $Fe_2O_3$. The low transparency after heat treatment is attributed to the recrystallization of $SiO_2$ which has a low melting point. Chromameter confirmed adding Pb-containing flux under heating greatly improves the clarity and color of Tanzanian rubies with micro-fractures and cavities on the surface. EMPA results show that Pb as an additive fills the cavities and cracks on raw Tanzanian rubies during the heat treatment. As a rewult of it, the quality of the Tanzanian ruby raw dramatically improved. These results indicate that the heat treatment with an additive (Pb in this study) is an effective way to obtain better quality of the Tanzanian ruby. Consequently, this study suggests a suitable method to improve the properties of the Tanzanina ruby. The result of this study would provide useful information to upgrade the qualities of similar gem stones such as corundum and sapphire.
We have developed a biosensor reading system using a white light source and a color-sensor. To reduce the environmental effect, we used the ratio of specific color intensity to the entire white light intensity. Also we could improve the responsibility of the system by controlling the amplification of the color sensor output.
Geological survey on the occurrence of copper oxide in Suparaura area around Abancay in the south-central part of Peru had been carried out. Geology of the area is composed of granitoids such as granodiorite, tonalite and andesitic porphyry related to Tertiary igneous activity, Ferrobamba formation with Cretaceous limestone and sandstone in descending order. Red sandstone is widely distributed and emplaced with their attitude of $N70^{\circ}W$ strike and $60^{\circ}NE$ dip. Copper oxides were mineralized along the bedding plane of red sandstone with maximum width of 30 cm. Ore-body structure bounding red sandstone strata have different occurrence characteristics with generally known porphyry system in terms of alteration, mineral assemblage and occurrence mode. Therefore, it is thought to be stratiform sediment-hosted copper (SSC) deposits genetically corresponding to Mississippi-valley type from preliminary study.

The optimal conditions for Monascus pigments production of Monascus sp. KM 1001, pigment overproducing mutant, in submerged culture was investigated. The optimal medium for the production of pigment from KM 1001 mutant is determined to be composed of 4% rice powder, 0.15% Bacto-peptone, 0.1% glycine, 0.01% $FeSO_{4}{\cdot}7H_{2}O,\;0.1%\;MgSO_{4}{\cdot}7H_{2}O,\;0.25%\;KH_{2}PO_{4},\;pH4.5$. On optimal conditions,10.0 g/L of the cell mass was obtained at $30^{\circ}C$ for 5 days. Yellow, orange and red pigment of Monascus sp. KM 1001 were produced 3.25 units, 1.59 units and 0.88 units in extracellular part, and 84.96 units, 78.84 units and 91.80 units in intracellular part, respectively.
For the detection of contaminated liquid spawn, we selected suitable medium, indicator and developed method of diagnosis. The growth of pathogenic bacteria, Pseudomonas sp., and fungi, Trichoderma sp., in YPL media was better than in PDA and NA. In addition, the changes of color and absorbance of media were obviously showed when contaminated liquid spawn by pathogenic bacteria and fungi was incubated on YPL including phenol red for 48 hour at $25^{\circ}C$. The color of YPLP after incubating of infected liquid spawn by Pseudomonas sp. and Trichoderma sp. were changed from orange to red and to scarlet, respectively. Whereas, the color of YPLP after incubation of only Pleurotus ostreatus indicated yellow at liquid spawn. Therefore, it is possible to easily distinguish contaminated liquid spawn by color of change in YPLP.
Fungi which produce red pigment were isolated from tapioca chips, Korean Koji, air, and plant leaves. Among the Fungi, T-1 strain was selected as test strain. This strain was identified as a Monatcus sp. by the morphological propeties. Various culture conditions, and physical and physiological characteristics of red pigment were studied. According to the studies of culture conditions, optimum condition was found to be pH 6.5; 4 days of incubation; temperature, 32~33 c: 3.5% of Tapioca chips powder as carbon source, 0.2% of sodium nitrate as nitrogen source and 100 ml of medium in the 500 ml Erlenmyer flask at a rotary shaker (rpm180) as aeration condition. Also effective levels of vitamins, amino acids and inorganic compounds was found to be l$\mu\textrm{g}$/ml of folic acid and niacin; 0.3% of L-arginine, L-glutamic acid and L-proline; and 0.001% of manganese dioxide giving good results.
Optimal conditions of producing red pigment by Monascus anka, Nakazawa, et Sato, IFO 4478 and 6540 were found to be at pH 6.0 and $30^{\circ}C$ for 10 days. When 3.0% steamed rice and 1.0% defatted sesame exfracts were used as substrates, the highest production of red pigment was yielded. Furthermore, mutants such as Monascus anka 4475-27 and 6540-185 induced by N -methyl-N-nitro-N-nitrosoguanidine (MNNG) treatment were found to produce pigment much more than parent strains.
The symbiotic star AG Peg is a nebulous binary system that consists of giant star (GS) and white dwarf (WD). We investigated the HI Balmer emission lines of the symbiotic nova AG Peg, observed in 1998, 2001, and 2002 at Lick Observatory. The $H{\alpha}$ and $H{\beta}$ line profiles consist of blue-shifted, red-shifted, and broad components of which intensities and width showed notable changes. The HI emission line profiles that represent the kinematics of the gaseous nebula appear to be mainly from an accretion disk in relatively large radius from the WD. Considering the line of an observer's sight, both GS and WD are located at the sky plane side by side during the 1998 observation, while the WD is in front of GS during 2002 but the WD in rear during 2001. Such a relative position and the spectral line intensity variation imply that a fairly constant outflow occurs into WD from GS which caused to maintain the rotating thick accretion disk structure responsible for the observed spectral lines.
This study was carried out to establish a system for mutation breeding by irradiation of gamma-ray in $Rosa$$hybrida$ Hort. The rooted cuttings of two roses, 'Spidella' and 'Cabernet' were irradiated with different gamma-ray doses (0, 30, 50, 70, 90, 110, 130, 150 and 170 Gy) from a $^{60}Co$ source to reveal an optimal dose for induction of mutants. The irradiated plants were planted in a greenhouse, and investigated on the appearance of petal color mutants and shoot growth by gamma ray dose. The 50% lethal doses ($LD_{50}$) of plant were 110 Gy for 'Spidella' and 150 Gy for 'Cabernet', respectively. The 50% decrease dose of shoot length was observed at 70-90 Gy dose for 'Spidella', and 110 Gy dose for 'Cabernet'. Solid, chimeric and mosaic petal mutants with various colors were induced from pink petal of 'Spidella' and red petal of 'Cabernet' when 30-170 Gy dose was irradiated. The mutants obtained from 'Spidella' had white, ivory, pinky ivory, light pink and deep pink petal colors. The mutants obtained from 'Cabernet' had pink, deep pink, purple red (magenta), orange red and purple petal colors. It was suitable to irradiate 70-90 Gy dose for 'Spidella' and 90-110 Gy dose for 'Cabernet' for the induction of various mutants considering plant survival rate, shoot growth and mutant occurrence rate.
