Threshold Selection Method for Capacity Optimization of the Digital Watermark Insertion (디지털 워터마크의 삽입용량 최적화를 위한 임계값 선택방법)

  • In this paper a watermarking algorithm is proposed to optimize the capacity of the digital watermark insertion in an experimental threshold using the characteristics of human visual system(HVS), adaptive scale factors, and weight functions based on discrete wavelet transform. After the original image is decomposed by a 3-level discrete wavelet transform, the watermarks for capacity optimization are inserted into all subbands except the baseband, by applying the important coefficients from the experimental threshold in the wavelet region. The adaptive scale factors and weight functions based on HVS are considered for the capacity optimization of the digital watermark insertion in order to enhance the robustness and invisibility. The watermarks are consisted of gaussian random sequences and detected by correlation. The experimental results showed that this algorithm can preserve a fine image quality against various attacks such as the JPEG lossy compression, noise addition, cropping, blurring, sharpening, linear and non-linear filtering, etc.

A GCST-based Digital Image Watermarking Scheme (GCST 기반 디지털 영상 워터마킹 방법)

  • Various image transformations can be used to compress images, to reduce noises in images and to extract useful features. Watermarking techniques using DCT and DWT have been a lot of research interest in the spread of multimedia contents. In this paper, Gabor cosine and sine transform considered as human visual filter is applied to embedding and extraction of watermarks for digital images. The proposed transform is used for watermarking with fifteen attacks. Randomly normal distributed noises are used as an embedded watermark. To measure the similarity between the embedded watermark and extracted one, a correlation value is computed and furthermore is compared with that of existing DCT method. Correlation values of extracted watermark are computed with randomly normal distributed noise sequences, and the sequence with the largest correlation value is declared as the embedded watermark. Frequency components are divided into various bands. Experimental results for low frequency and mid-frequency bands have shown that the proposed GCST provides a good watermarking algorithm and its performance is better than DCT.

  • Generally, the copy protection mark and 2D bar-code techniques are widely used for forgery protection in printed public documents. But, it is hard to discriminate truth from the copy documents by using exisiting methods, because of that existing 2D-barcode is separated from the copy protection mark and it can be only recognized by specified optical barcord scanner. Therefor, in this paper, we proposed the forgery protection tehchnique for discriminating truth from the copy document by using watermark inserted 2D-barcord, which can be accurately distinguished not only by naked eye, but also by scanner. The copy protection mark consists of deformed patterns that are caused by the lowpass filter characteristic of digital I/O device. From these, we verified the performance of the proposed techniques by applying the histogram analysis based on the original, copy, and scanned copy image of the printed documents. Also, we suggested 2D-barcord confirmation system which can be accessed through the online server by using certification key data which is detected by web-camera, cell phone camera.

Digital Watermarking Technique using self-similarity (자기유사성을 이용한 디지털 워터마킹 기법)

  • In this paper. we propose a new digital watermarking technique which uses the self-similarity of OCT(Discrete Cosine Transform) coefficients for the ownership protection of an image, similar coefficients are classified by SOM(Self-Organizing Map) out of Neural Network. The watermark is inserted into the selected cluster among clusters which consist of coefficients. Generally, the inserted watermark in high frequency regions of an image is eliminated by the compression process such as JPEG compressions, and the inserted watermark in low frequency regions of an image causes the distortion of an image quality. Therefore, the watermark is inserted into the cluster that has many coefficients in the middle frequency regions. This algorithm reduces the distortion of an image quality because of inserting the watermark into an image according to the number of coefficients in selected cluster. To extract watermarks from the watermarked image, the selected cluster is used without an original image. In the experiment, the new proposed algorithm have a good quality and endure attacks(JPEG compressions, filtering. zoom in, zoom out, cropping, noises) very well.

Analysis of Phase Noise Effects in a Short Range Weather Radar (단거리 기상 레이다에서의 위상 잡음 영향 분석)

  • Many short range weather radars with the low elevation search capability are needed for analysis and prediction of unusual weather changes or rainfall phenomena which occurs regionally. However, due to the characteristics of low elevation electromagnetic wave beam, it is highly probable that the received weather signals of these radars are seriously contaminated by the ground clutter. Therefore, the filter removing low Doppler frequency band is generally used to mitigate this problem. However, the phase noise in a radar system may limit the removal of the strong clutter and this may cause serious problems in estimating weather parameters because of the remaining clutter. Therefore, in this paper, the characteristics of phase noise in a radar system are investigated and the effects of the system phase noise are analyzed in the improvement of signal to clutter ratio for the strong clutter environment such as a short and low-elevated weather radar.

Comparative Study on Illumination Compensation Performance of Retinex model and Illumination-Reflectance model (레티넥스 모델과 조명-반사율 모델의 조명 보상 성능 비교 연구)

  • To apply object recognition techniques to real environment, illumination compensation method should be developed. As effective illumination compensation model, we focused our attention on Retinex model and illumination-Reflectance model, implemented them, and experimented on their performance. We implemented Retinex model with Single Scale Retinex, Multi-Scale Retinex, and Retinex Neural Network and Multi-Scale Retinex Neural Network, neural network model of Retinex model. Also, we implemented illumination-Reflectance model with reflectance image calculation by calculating an illumination image by low frequency filtering in frequency domain of Discrete Cosine Transform and Wavelet Transform, and Gaussian blurring. We compare their illumination compensation performance to facial images under nine illumination directions. We also compare their performance after post processing using Principal Component Analysis(PCA). As a result, illumination Reflectance model showed better performance and their overall performance was improved when illumination compensated images were post processed by PCA.

Study on OCR Enhancement of Homomorphic Filtering with Adaptive Gamma Value

  • AI-OCR (Artificial Intelligence Optical Character Recognition) combines OCR technology with Artificial Intelligence to overcome limitations that required human intervention. To enhance the performance of AI-OCR, training on diverse data sets is essential. However, the recognition rate declines when image colors have similar brightness levels. To solve this issue, this study employs Homomorphic filtering as a preprocessing step to clearly differentiate color levels, thereby increasing text recognition rates. While Homomorphic filtering is ideal for text extraction because of its ability to adjust the high and low frequency components of an image separately using a gamma value, it has the downside of requiring manual adjustments to the gamma value. This research proposes a range for gamma threshold values based on tests involving image contrast, brightness, and entropy. Experimental results using the proposed range of gamma values in Homomorphic filtering suggest a high likelihood for effective AI-OCR performance.

  • This paper proposes the application of harmonic constraints to address the problems caused by abnormal voltage increases when electric railway vehicles are running. The AC line that supplies the train with power during operation is used to provide electricity of 25kV/60 Hz, but gradually the size and frequency of harmonics involved in the line are varied with the technological evolution of the railroad vehicle electrical equipment. An increase in heat losses due to the failure of the instrument transformer (PT), the main circuit device, which is a serious problem with the recent train safety operation, or to the main displacement voltage. When high frequency components are introduced through low frequency Transformers of the main circuit device, the high intensity of the components is caused by the high intensity of the core and the current flow of the parasitic core is increased, thus generating heat. To solve this problem, the recent adjustment of the sequence has applied artificial NOTCH OFF of the power converter. However, the method of receiving and controlling the OFF signal operates by interaction between the ground and the vehicle's devices, thus it is invalid in the event of failure, and an actual accident is occurring. Therefore, the harmonic currents were required to prevent possible flow of harmonics, and conducted a study to prevent accidental occurrence of train accidents and to verify feasibility of the device through the simulations of the train's experimental analysis and the simulations of the train for safe operation.

  • The down-converter of the WCDMA Digital Optic Repeater is developed. Based on the system specifications, the structure of the down-converter is accomplished and its block diagram is drawn. The down-converter is implemented according to these block diagrams. Subsequently a low pass filter, an automatic level controlled attenuator, a frequency synthesizer and other components for the down-converter are designed and implemented, and a main board to integrate these modules is also manufactured. To reduce the noise floor of system and suppress the RF spurious noise, a PCB layout is performed carefully. For each module consisting of the down-converter and the entire system, the performance tests are accomplished to check the performance about the specifications.

  • In this paper, a triplexer for Advanced Mobile Phone Service(AMPS), United States-Personal Communication Services(US-PCS), and Global Positioning System(CPS) is designed using L and C lumped elements. The triplexer shows the insertion loss of 0.6 ㏈, 1.1 ㏈, and 1.6 ㏈ for AMPS, US-PCS, and GPS bands, respectively. Also, it shows the attenuation characteristic of less than 18 ㏈, and the VSWR of less than 2.0 through the all pass-band.
