Optimal Storage Condition of Clubroot Pathogen, Plasmodiophora brassicae for Artificial Inoculation (배추뿌리혹병균(Plasmodiophora brassicae)의 인공접종을 위한 효율적인 저장조건)

  • Clubroot, caused by the obligate parasite Plasmodiophora brassicae, is a severe soilborne disease of Brassicaceae. Storage of clubroot gall is important for studies on pathogenicity and race identification. As the current storage method has been used for more than 100 years, a new storage method should be developed and the most efficient way maintaining pathogenicity should be determined. Effects of storage conditions with different storage periods on pathogenicity in galls of kimchi cabbage were examined in a greenhouse. The experiments were performed under six conditions and four temperatures in order to determine the most effective storage conditions for maintenance of pathogenicity. The most effective conditions for clubroot gall storage was the storage of whole gall at $-70^{\circ}C$ or storage of filtrate at the same temperature through eight layers of gauze after homogenization of the galls.

Effect of Polyphenols Treatment from Pine Needle on the Inhibition of Aflatoxin Production in Rice and Corn (쌀, 옥수수에 대한 솔잎 Polyphenols 처리가 Aflatoxin 생성 저해에 미치는 영향)

  • While rice and corn were stored at room temperature for 90 days the degree of aflatoxin production was measured without humidity and temperature control. The amount of aflatoxin production of rice and corn after 30 days was 01.1 and 0.3 ppb, respectively. The degree of aflatoxin production increased rapidly with increasing storage temperature and humidity. The optimum conditions of aflatoxin production were 25 ∼30$\^{C}$ and 80% humidity. The degree of aflatoxin production in corn was higher than in rice under the same conditions. Rice and corn were treated with 0∼0.05%(w/w) of methyl alcohol (MeOH) extract and polyphenol (PP) group materials individually respectively under the optimum conditions.   • If the hydrogen industry is activated in the future, the LH2 receiving terminal with membrane storage tank is a major way to store and send large capacity hydrogen. Since such a LH2 receiving terminal does not currently exist, the process simulation model of it was completed by referring to the design data on existing LNG receiving terminal with same typed storage tank. Based on this model, the amount of BOG generation according to change of design conditions, which is a very important factor in the operation of LH2 receiving terminal, was predicted. Through this, it was attempted to review the appropriate operating conditions to minimize the amount of BOG generated during unloading in LH2 receiving terminal with membrane storage tank.

Bulge Characteristics of 1,000 mL Carton Pak according to the Different Storage Conditions (저장유통 조건에 따른 1,000 mL 카톤팩의 벌지현상)

  • This study was carried out to obtain physical characteristics of paper board and to measure bulge of 1,000 mL carton pak by different storage conditions. Water holding capacity of paper boards were mean of 5.6~7.0%, stiffness of machine direction(MD) was 243.3~266.7 g/cm and cross direction(CD) was 99.2~109.2 g/cm, respectively. The weight of 1,000 mL carton pak were in the range of 29.17~31.26 g. The bulge of carton paks were 6.33~6.93 mm after 7 days at 6$^{\circ}C$ storage, 7.26~8.56 mm after 7 days at 10$^{\circ}C$ and was 8.66 mm after 7 days at 10$^{\circ}C$ treated with 1 hour heat shock per day, respectively. According to this result, the bulge length of 1,000 mL carton pak was showed increased pattern upon increasing the storage temperature and the order was 6$^{\circ}C$ < l0$^{\circ}C$ < 10$^{\circ}C$+ heat shock. To prevent bulge occurence, it was thought to control storage temperature and humidity of paper board or carton pak and to minimize their shock on cold chain system after filling process.

Storage Quality of Ready-to-Eat Campbell Table Grapes as Affected by Active Modified Atmosphere Packaging (기체충진 포장조건에 따른 신선편이 캠벨 포도의 저장 중 품질변화)

  • The storage quality of ready-to-eat Campbell table grapes which were packaged under modified atmospheres was investigated in order to examine the effect of high $O_2$ and $CO_2$ on the fruit. Fresh table grapes with 10-15 berries were packed into polypropylene (PP) trays and were top-sealed with polythylene terephthalate/PP film. The initial gas compositions inside the packages were air, 20% $O_2$/10% $CO_2$/70% $N_2$, and 40% $O_2$/60% $N_2$. Sealed packages with low density polyethylene film bags and perforated PP trays were also used as a further treatment and control, respectively. The quality attributes were assessed during storage at $5^{\circ}C$ for 28 days. Fruit packaged in high $CO_2$ concentration showed the lowest viable cell counts of inherent microorganisms among all samples, although they suffered from severe off-flavors. High levels of $O_2$ significantly lowered flesh weight loss and maintained the flavor of grape. In an overall sensory aspect, the high $O_2$ and $CO_2$ packages exhibited greater scores than the air and control at the end of the storage period. Other quality attributes showed no significant differences among treatments. Results suggest that packaging with an appropriate combination of high $O_2$ and $CO_2$ can be used as an effective processing treatment for improvement of the storability of ready-to-eat table grapes.
