A Study on the Limitedness and Regularity of Addressing Patterns in a Concurrent Input/Output Access with Different Orders (상이한 순서의 동시 입출력 동작시 주소변화패턴의 유한성 및 규칙성에 관한 연구)

  • 영상신호처리와 같이 공간적 신호처리를 하는 실시간 신호처리시스템에서는 서로 다른 입출력 순서를 갖는 특정 크기의 블록 단위 신호처리가 요구된다. 다양한 영상압축코덱에 쓰이는 엔트로피 코딩을 위한 데이터 재정렬이 대표적인 예이다. 이 경우 동일 주소에 데이터를 읽고 쓰는 단일 버퍼링 방법이 저장 공간을 최소화 하는 최적의 방법이지만 상이하고 불규칙한 입출력 순서를 갖는 경우 이 방법을 적용할 경우 불규칙한 순서열이 이어지기 때문에 구현하기 어렵고 두 배의 저장 공간을 소모하는 이중 버퍼링 방법을 주로 사용한다. 본 논문에서는 불규칙한 순서열 변화를 보이는 임의의 상이한 입출력 순서를 갖는 동시 입출력 동작에서도 예측가능한 유한한 횟수 안에 규칙적인 반복성이 나타남을 입증하고 자원을 최소화하는 단일 버퍼링 방법이 적용될 수 있음을 보였다.

A Study on Friction Reduction Related with the Piston Ring Pack with Thinner Width Ring and Lower Tension Ring (박폭 저장력 피스톤 링 팩에 대한 마찰저감 연구)

  • To satisfy the more severe emission regulation and the demand of higher fuel economy in near future, the combustion pressure and power output of engines is going to be higher. In order to get the reduction of engine emission and the higher power, it is needed the reduction of the tension and width of ring pack. The lower tension ring and the manufacturing technology of cast iron thinner width ring can bring the friction reduction between the ring and liner during engine running. Therfore, the fuel economy can be achieved. Thereafter the engine emission can be reduced. In this study, by using a developed basic computer program that predicts the inter-ring pressure, the motion of ring and the inter-ring pressure through a crevice volume model between adjacent rings, and the oil film thickness and the friction computed by lubrication theories, it is to be examined the effect of friction reduction from piston ring pack equipped with thinner width ring and lower tension ring.

Flash Operation Group Scheduling for Supporting QoS of SSD I/O Request Streams (SSD 입출력 요청 스트림들의 QoS 지원을 위한 플래시 연산 그룹 스케줄링)

  • As SSDs are increasingly being used as high-performance storage or caches, attention is increasingly paid to the provision of SSDs with Quality-of-Service for I/O request streams of various applications in server systems. Since most SSDs are using the AHCI controller interface on a SATA bus, it is not possible to provide a differentiated service by distinguishing each I/O stream from others within the SSD. However, since a new SSD interface, the NVME controller interface on a PCI Express bus, has been proposed, it is now possible to recognize each I/O stream and schedule I/O requests within the SSD for differentiated services. This paper proposes Flash Operation Group Scheduling within NVME-based flash storage devices, and demonstrates through QEMU-based simulation that we can achieve a proportional bandwidth share for each I/O stream.

  • 본 논문은 Tertiary 저장장치를 이용한 대용량 비디오 서버의 설계와 구현에 대해서 기술한다. 서버는 서비스와 프로세스 관리 서브시스템, 자원 관리 서브시스템, 입출력 관리 서브시스템의 세 부분으로 구성된다. 입출력 대역폭이 낮은 Tertiary 저장장치의 효율적인 사용을 위해 디스크 캐쉬 풀 모델을 사용하고, 적절한 스케줄링 정책과 캐슁 알고리즘을 이용하여 가능한 많은 사용자를 수용한다. 서버는 Windows 2000에서 시스템 서비스로 구현되었으며 디스크 캐쉬의 효과적인 사용으로 Tertiary 저장장치의 낮은 대역폭을 최대한 활용하여 접속된 사용자에게 안정된 비디오 스트리밍 서비스를 제공한다.

Parallelism-aware Request Scheduling for MEMS-based Storages (MEMS 기반 저장장치를 위한 병렬성 기반 스케줄링 기법)

  • MEMS-based storage is being developed as a new storage media. Due to its attractive features such as high-bandwidth, low-power consumption, high-density, and low cost, MEMS storage is anticipated to be used for a wide range of applications from storage for small handhold devices to high capacity mass storage servers. However, MEMS storage has vastly different physical characteristics compared to a traditional disk. First, MEMS storage has thousands of heads that can be activated simultaneously. Second, the media of MEMS storage is a square structure which is different from the platter structure of disks. This paper presents a new request scheduling algorithm for MEMS storage that makes use of the aforementioned characteristics. This new algorithm considers the parallelism of MEMS storage as well as the seek time of requests on the two dimensional square structure. We then extend this algorithm to consider the aging factor so that starvation resistance is improved. Simulation studies show that the proposed algorithms improve the performance of MEMS storage by up to 39.2% in terms of the average response time and 62.4% in terms of starvation resistance compared to the widely acknowledged SPTF (Shortest Positioning Time First) algorithm.

  • Multimedia data service applications have to store and manipulate LOBs(unstructured large objects) composing multimedia data. As such, the tertiary storage devices such as an optical disk jukebox and a tape library that consist of a number of platters (the disks in case of an optical disk jukebox and the cartridge tapes in case of a tape library) have been considered essential for the storage system of a DBMS in order to efficiently support storage and management of vary large volume of data. Since the latency with tertiary storage is too long, the schemes for efficient retrieval of LOBs out of tertiary storage need to be investigated. In this paper, we investigated the tertiary I/O Considering the performance characteristics of the LOBs, we proposed various I/O scheduling heuristic algorithms that reduce latency in query processing with LOB retrieval from tertiary storage, and evaluated their performance through a detailed simulation.

포항 방사광 가속기의 고주파시스템 설계

  • 현재까지 진행된 저장링 격자의 기본설계에 따라, 고주파 시스템 특히 Cavity와 고전력 고주파시스템의 기본 요구사항 및 기본구조를 보여주었다. 이외에도 저장링의 고주파시스템은 아주 잘 설계된 정밀 고주파회로의 둣받침을 받아야 하는데 이에 대한 설계는 아직 초기단계에 있다. 안정된 500MHz 전원에서부터, Cavity내부 및 외부, 또 Klystron의 출력 등등의 상태를 파악하는 amplitude 및 phase detector들 또한 phase shifter, 신호감쇄기, 튜너 등이 많은 feedback 회로를 통해 서로 연결되어 각종 고, 저전력 시스템을 control하고 Cavity간의 위상을 맞추어 주어야 한다. 또한 이모든 system은 computer control 및 manual control이 가능해야 하고, 고압(-50KV), 고전류(-15A)가 사용되고 또한 Cavity 자체가 전체 저장링의 진공 시스템을 파괴할 수도 있으므로 이에 대한 초고속의 안전 relay 시스템도 설치되어야 한다. 충분한 빔의 수명을 위한 최대전얍은 1.5MV 내지 2.3MV로서 3개 또는 4개의 Cavity가 필요하고, 필요전력은 최소 171KW에서 최대 512KW까지임을 보여주었다. 여러가지 가능한 layout에서 PLS에 적합한 구조를 선택하였으며 기존 가속기들에 사용된 기술수준을 능가하는 특별한 요구사항은 없음을 보여주었다.

I/O Scheduler Scheme for User Responsiveness in Mobile Systems (모바일 시스템에서 사용자 반응성을 고려한 입출력 스케줄링 기법)

  • NAND flash storage is widely used for computer systems, because of it has faster response time, lower power consumption, and larger capacity per unit area than hard disk. However, currently used I/O scheduler in the operating system is optimized for characteristics of the hard disk. Therefore, the conventional I/O scheduler includes the unnecessary overhead in the case of the NAND flash storage to be applied. Particularly, when the write requests performed intensively, garbage collection is performed intensively. So, it occurs the problem that the processing of the I/O request delay. In this paper, we propose the new I/O scheduler to solve the problem of garbage collection performs intensively, and to optimize for NAND flash storage. In the result of performance evaluation, proposed scheme shows an improvement the user responsiveness by reducing 1% of the average read response time and 78% of the maximum response time.

  • 데이터베이스 시스템의 트랜잭션 로깅이나 파일 시스템의 저널링에서 데이터 저장시 입출력 동기화(Synchronous I/O)는 올바른 프로르램 동작에 필수적이다. 하지만 입출력 동기화로 인한 프로그램의 지연 혹은 기다림은 응용 프로그램 성능의 저하를 가져온다. 본 논문에서는 차세대 저장장치인 비휘발성 메모리를 사용하여 지속성을 보장하며 쓰기 연산의 응답성을 개선하는 사용자 수준의 스토리지 모듈을 제안하고 기존의 동기화된 쓰기 연산과 성능을 비교하였다. 특히 멀티코어 환경에서 동시에 들어오는 여러 입출력 쓰기 연산 요청에 대하여 효율적으로 처리하였다.

Demonstration-scale Offshore CO2 Storage Project in the Pohang Basin, Korea (포항분지 해상 중소규모 CO2 저장 실증연구)

  • $CO_2$ storage is a very important technology for reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and has been considered as almost the only viable and effective option for immediate large-scale $CO_2$ sequestration. Small-scale demonstration project for offshore $CO_2$ storage in the Pohang Basin is the transitional stage R&D program for technological preparation of large-scale $CO_2$ storage project in Korea. Through the extensive exploration research for prospective $CO_2$ storage sites, the offshore strata in the Pohang Basin was recommended for the storage formation of the small-scale demonstration project. The Pohang Offshore Storage Project launched at 2013, and has accomplished the technical demonstration and technological independence in a wide range of $CO_2$ storage technology, such as geophysical exploration, storage site characterization, storage design, offshore platform construction, injection-well drilling and completion, deployment of injection facility, operation of $CO_2$ injection, and $CO_2$ monitoring. The project successfully carried out $CO_2$ test injection in early 2017, and achieved its final goal for technical development and demonstration of $CO_2$ storage in Korea. The realization of $CO_2$ injection in this project is the measurable result and has been recorded as the first success in Korea. The Pohang Offshore Storage Project has a future plan for the continuous operation of $CO_2$ injection and completion of $CO_2$ monitoring system. The project has provided in-house technical and practical expertises, which will be a solid foundation for the commercial-scale $CO_2$ storage business in Korea. Additionally, the project will help to secure national technical competitiveness in growing international technology market for $CO_2$ storage.
