저준위 방사성폐기물 유리화에 관한 타당성 분석

  • 최근 전세계적으로 활발히 연구가 진행되고 있는 저준위 방사성폐기물 유리화에 관한 타당성을 조사하기 위해 여러 형태의 유리용융로에 대한 기술성을 분석하고, 기술성 분석에서 선택한 용융로를 이용한 3종류의 새로운 처리개념에 대한 경제성 분석을 수행하였다. 기술성 분석 대상 용융로는 프랑스 CEA/SGN 사의 직접유도가열식 저온로, 미국 VECTRA 사의 수직전극가열식 저온로, 미국 SEG사의 용응금속로 미국 Retech 사의 플라즈마토치 용융로이다. 기술성 분석결과 직접유도가 열식 저온로와 플라즈마토치 용융로를 병행하여 적용하는 것이 바람직하다는 결론을 얻었다. 이 용융로들을 이용한 3종류의 처리개념에 대해 처분부피, 처분단가에 따른 처분비, 처리비를 산정하고 현재 적용하고 있는 처리개념과 상호 비교하였다. 비교 결과 유리화 기술을 적용하는 것이 경제적이라 것과 현재 보다 80 %이상 처분부피를 감소시킬 수 있다는 것을 알 수 있었다.

  • Appropriate numerical models for the simulation of off-gas flow in hot area of the vitrification plant have been developed in this study. The models have been applied to analyze the effect of design parameters of real plant and numerical analyses have been performed for CCM(Cold Crucible Melter), pipe cooler and HTF(High Temperature Filter) At first, the effect of excess oxygen and the ratio of oxygen distribution on combustion characteristics in the CCM has been studied. Next, solidification behavior of radio nuclide In the pipe tooler has been numerically modeled and scrutinized. Finally, flow pattern In accordance with the location of off-gas entrance of the HTF has been compared.

Radioactive Wastes Vitrification Using Induction Cold Crucible Melter: Characteristics of Vitrified Form (유도 가열식 저온용융로를 이용한 방사성페기물 유리화: 유리 고화체 특성)

  • In order to simultaneously vitrify the ton Exchange Resin(IER) and Dry Active Waste(DAW) generated from the Nuclear Power Plants, a vitrification pilot test was conducted using an induction cold crucible melter. The PCT result evaluating the chemical durability of the vitrified from showed that the final glass was more durable than the benchmark glass. Liquidus temperature for the final vitrified form was 1048 K(775$\^{C}$) fur heat treatment experiments. The value of the compressive strength for the vitrified form was ninety times higher than the regulation limit, 34 kg/㎠. The glasses on bottom, middle and top of the CCM were homogeneous with no secondary phase. The precipitation of the magnetic metal phase was able to be avoided by simultaneously fEeding of DAW with IER containing strongly reducing organics. Volume reduction factor of 74 was achieved through the vitrification Pilot test for mixed waste.

  • In order to simultaneously vitrify the ion exchange resin(IER) and combustible dry active waste(DAW) generated from Korean nuclear power plants, a vitrification pilot test was conducted using an induction cold crucible melter(CCM) . The energy necessary for startup of the glass using a Ti-ring was evaluated as about 290 kWh. The power supplied from a high frequency generator to melt the glass properly was ranged from 160 to 190 kW without any interruption. When the mixture of the IER and DAW was fed into the CCM, the concentration of CO was lowered up to 1/40 compared to feeding the IER solely. It may be caused by the DAW which can produce about 1.8 times higher heat compared to the IER. When the swelling phenomenon occurred in the glass melt, the concentration of $NO_2$, oxidizing gas, was higher than NO, reducing gas. Total feed amounts of the IER and DAW were 368 and 751 kg, respectively. And then, about 74 of volume reduction factor was achieved.

A Study on Waste Heat Recycling of Plasma Melting System (플라즈마 용융 공정시의 폐열 재활용 연구)

  • The purpose of this research is to design an imitation boiler similar to the waste heat boiler installed on a plasma melting furnace in order to acquire a capability of a thermal design as to the circulation of heat and the discharge of noxious gas inside a boiler and to improve the efficiency of a waste heat boiler using the CFD (Computation Fluid Dynamics) program. The position of corrosion and the generation of a clinker inside a boiler due to temperature changes, combustion gas flows, and corrosive gases inside a boiler are examined to design the structure of an efficient boiler and recycle energy. As a result of this research, the boiler installed on a plasma melting furnace met the conditions of design by cooling the combustion gases discharged after the second combustion from an exhaust port, originally at 1,200 degrees Celsius, down to around 450 degrees Celsius. On the other hand, the circulation of corrosive gases (SOx and HCL) may lead to the generation of corrosion or a clinker in the upper and lower parts of an exhaust port more easily than any other parts of a boiler. Accordingly, the corrosion on the inside and outside walls of a boiler may result in a shortened lifespan of a boiler and an inability to recycle waste heat in an efficient manner. A prevention against corrosion at high and low temperatures needs to be considered in detail.
