In this study, impact transient responses of (Graphite/Epoxy) laminated composite subjected to low-velocity impact are investigated using a finite element method. Dynamic von-Karman plate equations considering large deflection of plate are modified to include the effect of transverse shear deformations as in Mindlin plate theory and also the rotary inertia effect is considered. The convergence of transient responses is used contact law established through the statical indentation test. We investigate displacements, contact forces and strains by thickness variation of various laminated composite. We compare and analyze each results.
In this paper, we developed the direct numerical simulation(DNS) model considering the geometry of yams which consist of 3D orthogonal woven composite materials, and using this model, the dynamic behavior of under transverse low-velocity impact has been studied. To build up the micromechanical model considering tow spacing and waviness, an accurate unit structure is presented and used in building structural plate model based on DNS. For comparison, DNS results are compared with those of the micromechanical approach which is based on the global equivalent material properties obtained by DNS static numerical tests. The effects with yarn geometrical irregularities which are difficult to consider in a macroscopic approach are also investigated by the DNS model. Finally, the multiscale model based on the DNS concepts is developed to enhance efficiency of analysis with real sized numerical specimen and macro/micro characteristics are presented.
The piezoelectric thin film sensor has good characteristics to observe the impact responses of composite structures. The capabilities for monitoring impact behavior of Gr/Ep laminates subjected to damage-induced impact using the PVDF(polyvinylidene fluoride) film sensor were examined. For a series of low-velocity impact tests from low energy to damage-induced energy, simulated sensor signals were compared with measured signals and the PVDF film sensor. Local impact damages(matrix cracking and delamination) were found at three impact tests, but the measured signals agreed well with the simulated sensor signals based on the linear relationship between the impact forces and the PVDF film sensor signals. And the inverse technique was applied to reconstruct the impact forces using the PVDF film sensor signals. Most of reconstructed impact forces had good agreement with the measured forces. The comparison results showed that the local damage due. to low-velocity impact didn't disturb the global impact responses of composite laminates and the reconstruction of impact forces from PVDF sensor signals wasn't affected by the local damage.
In this study, in order to observe the behaviors of fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) strengthened and steel fiber reinforced concrete specimens for impact and static loads, flexural and punching tests were performed. For the one-way flexural and two-way punching tests, concrete specimens with the dimensions of $50{\times}100{\times}350$ mm and $50{\times}350{\times}350$ mm were fabricated, respectively. The steel fiber reinforced concrete specimens showed much enhanced resistance on two-way punching of static and impact loads. In addition the FRP strengthening system provided the outstanding performance under a punching load. Because of a large tensile strength and toughness of ultra high performance concrete (UHPC), the UHPC specimens retrofitted with FRP showed marginally enhanced strength and energy dissipating capacity.

Carbon fiber/epoxy composites are typical brittle materials and have low impact properties. Recently, it is important to investigate impact characteristics of carbon fiber composites because of increasing use as automobile parts and high pressure hydrogen vessels of fuel cell electric vehicles for light weight. In this study, the low velocity impact properties of carbon fiber/epoxy composites fabricated by a filament winding method are studied. The low velocity impact properties were measured by performing tests according to ASTM D7136. The low velocity impact simulations were carried out using commercial structural analysis software, Abaqus. The absorbed energy and the delamination shapes were compared between the experimental and simulation results. The numerical analysis method showed that the absorbed energy decreased with the reduced number of cohesive elements in the composite models.

In this study, the static and low velocity impact tests for two-way concrete specimens strengthening with the CFRP sheets were carried out. The specimens that had a dimension of $50{\times}350{\times}350mm$ with 40 MPa plain concrete and steel fiber reinforced concrete which had same mixture to plain concrete and 0.75% steel fibers were fabricated. The specimens reinforced with the CFRP or steel fibers showed mixed failure modes, splitting and punching, also splitting cracks and fragments were much reduced than plain concrete specimens'. Two-way concrete members reinforced with the CFRP and steel fiber simultaneously dissipated 6.8 times larger energy than not-retrofitted members' under the low-velocity impact loading.
The purpose of this paper is to analyze the impact response behaviors of glass/epoxy laminated composite plates subjected to the transversely impact of a steel ball. For this purpose, dynamic finite element analysis based on the higher-order shear defomation plate theory is used to compute the contact forces, rebound velocity of a steel ball, and dynamic strain response histories. And low-velocity and high-velocity impact experiments were conducted to compare the results and compute the wave propagation velocities. The results obtained from impact experiments are in good agreement with those of dynamic finite element analysis. Also the wave propagation velocities obtained from high-velocity impact experiments and wave propagation theory agree well, and wave velocities were higher in the smaller radius of steel ball.

Impact behaviors of Aluminum Honeycombs Sandwich Panel(AHSP) by drop weight test were investigated. Two types of specimens with 1/2" and 1/4" cell size were tested by two impactors which are weight of $5.25\textrm{kg}_{\textrm{f}}$ and $11.9\textrm{kg}_{\textrm{f}}$. Parametric studies were achieved including the impactor weight and impact sites which consist face, long-edge, short-edge, and point of the specimen. Face one of impact sites was the strongest and short-edge one of impact sites was the weakest. The damaged area of AHSP was enlarged with the increase of impactor weight that is equal to impact energy. After 3 point bending test, fracture modes of AHSP were analyzed with AE counts. Lower facesheet was fractured in the long-edge direction and then separated between facesheet and core. In the short-edge direction after core wrinkled, lower facesheet tear occurred. Impact behavior by FE analysis were increased localized damage in fast velocity because the faster velocity of the impact was, the smaller the stress of core was. Consequently, impactor weight had an effect on widely damaged area, while the impact velocity was caused on the localized damaged area.aged area.

The dynamic behavior of graphite/epoxy laminated composite shell structure due to low-velocity impact is investigated using the finite element method. In this analysis, the Newmark's constant-acceleration time integration algorithm is used. The impact response such as contact force, central deflection and dynamic strain history form shell structure analysis are compared with those form the plate non-linear analysis. The effects of curvature, impact velocity and mass of impactor on the composite shell are discussed.
