A Study on User Perception Survey for Establishing Effective Operational Strategies of the Gwacheon City Library (과천시 도서관의 효과적인 운영 방안 수립을 위한 이용자 인식조사 연구)

  • This study aimed to establish a systematic and comprehensive operational plan for the library to be constructed in the Gwacheon Knowledge Information Town. To achieve this, a survey on the demand for library operations was conducted among actual users of the Gwacheon City Public Library, and plans for the library collection development, user services, and methods to revitalize use were formulated based on the survey results. The findings are as follows. First, the library's construction/space analysis results suggest the need for a multifunctional cultural space accessible to everyone, serving as both a relaxation area and venue for a free information exchange and communication, allowing for a certain level of noise to facilitate an open atmosphere for users. Second, the analysis of the preferred types and forms of library materials revealed that printed materials ranked first, followed by web resources in the second place, and e-books/e-journals in the third. Additionally, there was a high preference for subjects such as literature and history. Third, a high preference was observed for cultural and arts programs, indicating the need for the future Gwacheon Knowledge Information Town Library to strengthen and implement programs focusing on cultural and artistic themes.

Analysis of Topic Changes in Metaverse Application Reviews Before and After the COVID-19 Pandemic Using Causal Impact Analysis Techniques (Causal Impact 분석 기법을 접목한 COVID-19 팬데믹 전·후 메타버스 애플리케이션 리뷰의 토픽 변화 분석)

  • Metaverse is attracting attention as the development of virtual environment technology and the emergence of untact culture due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In this study, by analyzing users' reviews on the "Zepeto" application, which has recently attracted attention as a metaverse service, we tried to confirm changes in the requirements for the metaverse after the COVID-19 pandemic. To this end, 109,662 reviews of "Zepeto" applications written on the Google Play Store from September 2018 to March 2023 were collected, topics were extracted using LDA topic modeling technique, and topics were analyzed using the Causal Impact technique to examine how topics changed before and after based on "March 11, 2020" when the COVID-19 pandemic was declared. As a result of the analysis, five topics were extracted: application functional problems (topic1), security problems (topic 2), complaints about cryptocurrency (Zem) in the application (topic 3), application performance (topic 4), and personal information-related problems (topic 5). Among them, it was confirmed that security problems (topic 2) were most affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

A Study on the Improvement of Entity-Based 3D Artwork Data Modeling for Digital Twin Exhibition Content Development (디지털트윈 전시형 콘텐츠 개발을 위한 엔티티 기반 3차원 예술작품 데이터모델링 개선방안 연구)

  • Recently, a number of virtual reality exhibition-type content services have been produced using archive resources of visual art records as a means of promoting cultural policy-based public companies. However, it is by no means easy to accumulate 3D works of art as data. Looking at the current state of metadata in public institutions, there was no digitalization of resources when developing digital twins because it was built based on old international standards. It was found that data modeling evolution is inevitable to connect multidimensional data at a capacity and speed that exceeds the functions of existing systems. Therefore, the elements and concepts of data modeling design were first considered among previous studies. When developing virtual reality content, when it is designed for the migration of 3D modeling data, the previously created metadata was analyzed to improve the upper elements that must be added to 3D modeling. Furthermore, this study demonstrated the possibility by directly implementing the process of using newly created metadata in virtual reality content in accordance with the data modeling process. If this study is gradually developed in the future, metadata-based data modeling can become more meaningful in the use of public data than it is today.

A Study on Key Arrangement of Virtual Keyboard based on Eyeball Input system (안구 입력 시스템 기반의 화상키보드 키 배열 연구)

  • The eyeball input system is a text input system designed based on 'eye tracking technology' and 'virtual keyboard character-input technology'. The current virtual keyboard structure used is a rectangular QWERTY array optimized for a multi-input method that simultaneously utilizes all 10 fingers on both hands. However, since 'eye-tracking technology' is a single-input method that relies solely on eye movement, requiring only one focal point for input, problems arise when used in conjunction with a rectangular virtual keyboard structure designed for multi-input method. To solve this problem, first of all, previous studies on the shape, type, and movement of muscles connected to the eyeball were investigated. Through the investigation, it was identified that the principle of eye movement occurs in a circle rather than in a straight line. This study, therefore, proposes a new key arrangement wherein the keys are arranged in a circular structure suitable for rotational motion rather than the key arrangement of the current virtual keyboard which is arranged in a rectangular structure and optimized for both-hand input. In addition, compared to the existing rectangular key arrangement, a performance verification experiment was conducted on the circular key arrangement, and through the experiment, it was confirmed that the circular arrangement would be a good replacement for the rectangular arrangement for the virtual keyboard.

A Study on Wearable Augmented Reality-Based Experiential Content: Focusing on AR Stone Tower Content (착용형 증강현실 기반 체험형 콘텐츠 연구: AR 돌탑 콘텐츠를 중심으로)

  • This paper proposes AR stone tower content, an experiential content based on wearable augmented reality (AR). Although wearable augmented reality is gaining attention, the acceptance of the technology is still focused on specialized applications such as industrial sites. On the other hand, the proposed AR stone tower content is based on the material of 'stone tower' so that general users can relate to it and easily participate in it, and it is organized to utilize space in a moving environment and find and stack stones based on natural hand gestures. The proposed AR stone tower content was implemented in the HoloLens 2 environment and evaluated by general users through a pilot exhibition in a small art museum. The evaluation results showed that the overall satisfaction with the content averaged 3.85, and the content appropriateness for the stone tower material was very high at 4.15. In particular, users were highly satisfied with content comprehension and sound, but somewhat less satisfied with object recognition, body adaptation, and object control. The above user evaluations confirm the resonance and positive response to the material, but also highlight the difficulties of the average user in experiencing and interacting with the wearable AR environment.

  • With the advent of 5G, characterized by Enhanced Mobile Broadband (eMBB), Ultra-Reliable Low Latency Communications (URLLC), and Massive Machine Type Communications (mMTC), efficient network management and service provision are becoming increasingly critical. This paper proposes a novel approach to address key challenges of 5G networks, namely ultra-high speed, ultra-low latency, and ultra-reliability, while dynamically optimizing network slicing and resource allocation using machine learning (ML) and deep learning (DL) techniques. The proposed methodology utilizes prediction models for network traffic and resource allocation, and employs Federated Learning (FL) techniques to simultaneously optimize network bandwidth, latency, and enhance privacy and security. Specifically, this paper extensively covers the implementation methods of various algorithms and models such as Random Forest and LSTM, thereby presenting methodologies for the automation and intelligence of 5G network operations. Finally, the performance enhancement effects achievable by applying ML and DL to 5G networks are validated through performance evaluation and analysis, and solutions for network slicing and resource management optimization are proposed for various industrial applications.

An Analysis of Nationality Diversity by Journal Editors and Authors Using Diversity Index: Focusing on International Journals of Library and Information Science (다양성 지수를 활용한 학술지 편집위원과 저자의 국적 다양성 분석 - 문헌정보학 분야 국제학술지를 중심으로 -)

  • This study analyzed the national diversity of journal editors and authors, focusing on international journals in library and information science, and quantified it through Simpson's Diversity Index. In addition, LIS journals were clustered according to diversity indicators and their characteristics were analyzed, and it was also confirmed whether nationality diversity of editorial members could induce nationality diversity of authors. As a result of the analysis, first, the diversity index of the editors of the LIS (Library & Information Science) international journal was found to be 0.64, which is less than the diversity of the authors, which is 0.76. It was confirmed that as the diversity of nationalities among editorial committee members increases, it is possible to attract authors of various nationalities (r = .79). Second, journals in the IS (Information Science) field showed a high index before or after 0.8 for both editorial members and author contributing countries, but those in the LS (Library Science) field showed relatively low scores, especially among the editorial members, with a very low index of 0.48. Third, the United States has the highest share of both authors and editors, and in particular, it has been confirmed that the LS field has an overwhelming share of 53.39% of editors. On the other hand, in Asian countries, including Korea, the ratio of contributions as editors compared to contributions as authors was found to be lower than in the United States and European countries.

Institutional Factors Affecting Faculty Startups and Their Performance in Korea: A Panel Data Analysis (대학의 기관특성이 교원창업 성과에 미치는 영향에 관한 패널 데이터 분석)

  • This paper adopts a resource-based approach to analyze why some universities have a greater number of faculty startups, and how this impacts on performance, in terms of indictors such as the number of employees and revenue sales. More specifically, we propose 9 hypotheses which link institutional resources to faculty startups and their performance, and compare 5 different groups of university resources for cross-college variation, using data from 134 South Korean four-year universities from 2017 to 2020. We find that the institutional factors impacting on performance of faculty startups differ from other categories of startups. The results show that it is important for universities to provide a more favorable environment, incorporating more flexible personnel policies and accompanying startup support infrastructure, for faculty startups, whilest it is more effective to have more financial resources and intellectual property for other categories of startups. Our findings also indicate that university technology-holding company and technology transfer programs are crucial to increase the number of faculty startups and their performance. Our analysis results have implications for both university and government policy-makers, endeavoring to facilitate higher particaption of professors in startup formation and ultimate commercialization of associated teachnologies.

Multi-Modal Emotion Recognition in Videos Based on Pre-Trained Models (사전학습 모델 기반 발화 동영상 멀티 모달 감정 인식)

  • Recently, as the demand for non-face-to-face counseling has rapidly increased, the need for emotion recognition technology that combines various aspects such as text, voice, and facial expressions is being emphasized. In this paper, we address issues such as the dominance of non-Korean data and the imbalance of emotion labels in existing datasets like FER-2013, CK+, and AFEW by using Korean video data. We propose methods to enhance multimodal emotion recognition performance in videos by integrating the strengths of image modality with text modality. A pre-trained model is used to overcome the limitations caused by small training data. A GPT-4-based LLM model is applied to text, and a pre-trained model based on VGG-19 architecture is fine-tuned to facial expression images. The method of extracting representative emotions by combining the emotional results of each aspect extracted using a pre-trained model is as follows. Emotion information extracted from text was combined with facial expression changes in a video. If there was a sentiment mismatch between the text and the image, we applied a threshold that prioritized the text-based sentiment if it was deemed trustworthy. Additionally, as a result of adjusting representative emotions using emotion distribution information for each frame, performance was improved by 19% based on F1-Score compared to the existing method that used average emotion values for each frame.

Analysis of the Success Factors of Living Lab in a Smart City with a Focus on Social Capital (사회적 자본을 중심으로 찾아본 스마트도시 리빙랩의 성공 요인 분석)

  • In the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, modern society is evolving beyond an information society into a hyperconnected society, with the advancement of technology leading to the development of smart cities. According to Cohen (2015), the direction of smart city evolution is shifting from a technology-driven approach to a citizen co-creation model, and living labs play a crucial role in this transition. The objective of this study is to empirically analyze the success factors of living labs in smart cities using the citizen co-creation approach, focusing on social capital. Social capital is measured by variables such as interest, networks, trust, and norms, while the success factors of living labs are analyzed through variables like communication, democracy (conflict acceptance), and open innovation. The analysis results showed that, among the success factors of living labs, communication was positively influenced by trust, norms, and networks, with trust having the greatest impact. Democracy (conflict acceptance) was positively influenced by norms and interest, while open innovation was positively influenced by norms and interest as well. This study concludes that the formation of social capital is crucial for the success of living labs in smart cities following the citizen co-creation model. In particular, the formation of trust among neighbors, colleagues, national and local governments is vital. Additionally, adherence to laws, regulations, and community agreements, as well as interest in various local events and policies, are essential. Based on these findings, this study suggests that while smart cities may have originated from technology, they must ultimately be pursued based on people-centered participation, interest, and trust for sustainable development.
