Cost-based Optimization of Block Recycling Scheme in NAND Flash Memory Based Storage System (NAND 플래시 메모리 저장 장치에서 블록 재활용 기법의 비용 기반 최적화)

  • Flash memory based storage has been used in various mobile systems and now is to be used in Laptop computers in the name of Solid State Disk. The Flash memory has not only merits in terms of weight, shock resistance, and power consumption but also limitations like erase-before-write property. To overcome these limitations, Flash memory based storage requires special address mapping software called FTL(Flash-memory Translation Layer), which often performs merge operation for block recycling. In order to reduce block recycling cost in NAND Flash memory based storage, we introduce another block recycling scheme which we call migration. As a result, the FTL can select either merge or migration depending on their costs for each block recycling. Experimental results with Postmark benchmark and embedded system workload show that this cost-based selection of migration/merge operation improves the performance of Flash memory based storage. Also, we present a solution of macroscopic optimal migration/merge sequence that minimizes a block recycling cost for each migration/merge combination period. Experimental results show that the performance of Flash memory based storage can be more improved by the macroscopic optimization than the simple cost-based selection.

  • There is an increasing interest in the use of electrochemical methods for the food waste treatment. The technologies using the electrochemical method provide ideal tools for approaching industrial and food wastes problems. Unlike other chemical treatments, the electrochemical systems do not make the volume of the secondary waste increase. The electrochemical methods can be operated with electrochemical apparatus and inorganic agent allow selective separation and recovery and even quieter than others. This study concerns design factors, electrode construction and wastewater treatment process of the electrochemical apparatus. The experiment of color, COD and BOD removal is much effective in using electrochemical method with ultrasonication and ozonation.

  • 본 논문은 가열된 폐식용유를 이용하여 음식물류폐기물에 포함된 수분을 증발시키고 고형성분을 익혀 사료, 퇴비 및 연료화 할 수 있는 장치를 소개한다. $200^{\circ}C$의 폐식용유에서 l분 이내에 완전 건조 처리되며 멸균을 시킬 수 있어 효과적이다. 열원은 소각로 열을 재활용할 경우 경제적이다. 탈리액의 해양투기가 금지될 경우 탈리액을 획기적으로 줄이는 대안이라 여겨진다.

Development of Bag Rupturing Device with Octagonal Rotating Blade Drums for MSWs (생활계(生活系) 폐기물(廢棄物) 봉투(封套) 파봉을 위한 회전(回傳)칼날팔각(八角)드럼식(式) 파봉장치(裝置) 개발(開發)에 관(關)한 연구(硏究))

  • Recyclable wastes coming into material recovery facilities(MRFs) is mostly packed by plastic bag or sack bag. Bag rupturing device is essential to improve capacity and efficiency of MRFs. Bag opening works of MRFs is mostly done by numerous workers and shredder-type bag rupturing device. It often makes a problems; decreased capacity, shredded recyclables, worker safety by explosion and broken glasses, etc. In the present work, bag rupturing device with octagonal rotating blade drums has been developed to solve the existing problems and environment assessment is also performed during operation of the device. Capacity of the device was about 5.6 ton/hr at 8.2 rpm of drum revolution speed and 1.25 m/min of belt conveyor speed. It satisfied initial designed capacity(5.0 ton/hr) and max. capacity 8.8 ton/hr was achieved at 12.5 rpm of drum revolution speed and 1.50m/min of belt conveyor speed. Bag rupturing efficiencies on outer and inner bag were obtained at 100% and about 95.6% as average, respectively and original form of glass bottles in the bag was maintained without broken by about 96.5%. This result shows that the safety in hand sorting by the workers could be improved. As result of environmental assessment on the noise, vibration and particulates, the measured levels on noise, vibration and particulates show the below standard regulatory limits. It could be concluded that the problems of existing devices in MRFs could be solved by adopting the bag rupturing device with octagonal rotating blade drums in on-site operation.

  • 본 논문은 고온 고압 수증기를 활용한 유기성 폐기물의 가수분해현상과 이를 이용한 퇴비 등의 재활용 방안을 제시한다. 사료화의 경우는 3.27 기압 $135^{circ}C$ 전후의 포화수증기로 교반처리하여 영양소 파괴를 줄이고 멸균 및 가수분해가 일어나게 하여 소화가 잘되는 사료를 만들 수 있고, 퇴비화의 경우는 16기압. $200^{circ}C$ 전후의 포화수증기로 교반처리하여 가수분해, 산가수분해, 열분해 및 탄화가 일어나도록 하여 목초액과 활성탄을 함유한 보온성, 보비성 및 통기성이 양호한 퇴비를 만든다. 응축수는 액비로 사용가능하므로 완전 재활용이 가능하다.

  • 본 논문은 쓰레기 소각로에서 발생하는 폐열을 활용하여 유기성 폐기물의 재활용하는 방안을 제시한다. 파쇄된 유기성 폐기물을 증류 건조시켜 건조된 고형물과 응축수로 분리하여 응축수는 액비나 탈취제로 활용하고 고형물은 단미사료로 활용하는 완벽한 재활용시스템이다. 탈리액의 해양투기가 금지될 경우 탈리액을 획기적으로 줄이는 대안이라 여겨진다.

  • 1992년 '자원절약과 재활용 촉진에 관한 법률'이 제정되었고 폐기물 관련 규제가 강화됨에 2003년 생산자 책임 재활용 제도(EPR)를 도입하였다. 하지만 비데시트 내부에 부착된 열선의 누전방지를 위하여 은박지 및 비데 상하면을 강력본드로 접합시키고 있다. 이 점이 재활용에 많은 어려움으로 되어 일부는 재활용되거나 폐기되고 있는 실정이다. 이러한 유효자원이 폐기되고 있는 문제점을 해결하기 위한 방안으로서 열선과 플라스틱을 자동분리 할 수 있는 장치(지그)를 개발함으로써 효율적인 R&D 사업을 제시하고 문제점을 해결할 수 있다. 이에 가정이나 생활현장에서 폐기되고 있는 자원을 회수할 수 있는 기술을 제공하고자 한다. 본고에서는 필자가 현장에서 근무하면서 터득한 폐기되고 있는 생활 폐기물인 비데두껑을 이용한 환경개선과 소재활용을 목표로 열선과 플라스틱 수지를 효과적으로 분리시킬 수 있는 기술을 적용시킴으로써 수입 대체 소재 재활용 국산에 이바지 하고자 하였다.

Development of Automatic Sorting System for Black Plastics Using Laser Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (LIBS) (LIBS를 이용한 흑색 플라스틱의 자동선별 시스템 개발)

  • Used small household appliances have a wide variety of product types and component materials, and contain high percentage of black plastics. However, they are not being recycled efficiently as conventional sensors such as near-infrared ray (NIR), etc. are not able to detect black plastic by types. In the present study, an automatic sorting system was developed based on laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) to promote the recycling of waste plastics. The system we developed mainly consists of sample feeder, automatic position recognition system, LIBS device, separator and control unit. By applying laser pulse on the target sample, characteristic spectral data can be obtained and analyzed by using CCD detectors. The obtained data was then treated by using a classifier, which was developed based on artificial intelligent algorithm. The separation tests on waste plastics also were carried out by using a lab-scale automatic sorting system and the test results will be discussed. The classification rate of the radial basis neural network (RBFNNs) classifier developed in this study was about > 97%. The recognition rate of the black plastic by types with the automatic sorting system was more than 94.0% and the sorting efficiency was more than 80.0%. Automatic sorting system based on LIBS technology is in its infant stage and it has a high potential for utilization in and outside Korea due to its excellent economic efficiency.

The Development of Electrostatic Separation Technique for Recycling of Life Circles Waste Plastic (생활계 폐플라스틱 재활용을 위한 정전선별 기술개발)

  • The development of material separation technique for waste plastic recycling are the necessary situation restricted by law the reclamation and incineration of waste plastic after 2004, with enforcement of EPR (Extended Producer Responsibility) system. As the this study is the research on the development of electrostatic separation techniques for recycling of life circles waste plastic by development of charging material and charger, the separation efficiency can be improved. Therefore, we developed the charger and electrostatic separator to increase charging efficiency and material separation per object plastics, rising these equipments, we removed PVC up to $99\%$ from two kinds of mixed plastics. And in case of restricting PVC content such as PET, we developed the separation technique that can remove PVC up to $99.99\%$ from PET with PET recovery about $80\%$. Also, as we separated over $98\%$ for three kinds of mixed plastics, and then established material separation technique to increase recycling of plastic.
