Methods: A fall prevention program was consisted of fall preventing exercise with laughter therapy. Quasi-experimental design with one group pre- and post-test was used. Twenty-two elderly were participated in this study from a community health center located in a rural area, South Korea. SPSS/WIN 18.0 was used for descriptive analysis and paired t-test. Results: After 12 weeks with a fall prevention program, gait ability (t=3.44, p=.002), one leg standing-right (t=-3.73, p=.001), one leg standing-left (t=-4.17, p<.001) and fear of falling (t=2.12, p=.046) in the elderly were significantly improved. Conclusion: A fall prevention program was effective on physical and psychological functions. This study suggested that control groups and a larger sample should be included in order to validate the effects of a fall prevention program for the elderly. • Objective : This study examined the psychometric properties of the 12-item Coping Orientation to Problems Experienced Scale (COPE) using Rasch analysis. COPE is one of the instruments used to measure stress-coping skills. Methods : The study participants were 480 community-dwelling older adults. We tested the instrument's unidimensionality assumption using principal component analysis (PCA). Item fit was examined using infit-and-outfit mean-square (MnSq) and standardized fit statistics (ZSTD). The precision and item difficulty hierarchies of the instrument were examined. The item-difficulty hierarchy was investigated to identify the easy and difficult items. We tested differential item functioning (DIF) for sex and age groups. Results : PCA revealed that the instrument met the unidimensionality assumption (eigenvalue = 1.78). Among the 12 items, item 2 was removed because of misfit (Infit MnSq = 1.33, Infit ZSTD = 5.05, Outfit MnSq = 1.56, Outfit ZSTD = 7.15). The remaining 11 items demonstrated a conceptual item-difficulty hierarchy. The person strata value was 3.10, which is equivalent to a reliability index value of 0.81. There was no DIF for the sex and age groups (DIF contrast <0.27). Conclusion : The findings indicated that the revised COPE-11 has adequate item-level psychometric properties and can accurately measure stress coping skills.

The analysis checked the mediating effect through the multiple regression analysis and bootstrapping. The result indicated the need for rehabilitation services had negative impact on self-efficacy and daily life satisfaction whereas self-efficacy had a positive effect on daily life satisfaction and played a mediating role between the need for rehabilitation services and daily life satisfaction. Based on these results, a need for the advancement of social psychological rehabilitation program and establishing an integrative rehabilitation process were identified.

  • The components that influence recovery were investigated to understand the recovery lived experience of stroke inpatients. Using the phenomenological research methodology reported by Giorgi, 3 conversation sessions were performed on 12 stroke inpatients. The conversations were recorded through agreement, in which the data were analyzed according to the scientific phenomenological methods. Sixteen summarized meaning units were integrated to deduct 10 main meanings and 6 themes. The themes of the restoration experience included the burden of help, performance of independent roles, self-overcoming, return to society, psychological support, and enhanced motivation for recovery. This can be used as data to predict the difficulty that stroke patients experience during hospitalization and propose a direction of intervention for restoration. Rehabilitation experts must provide intervention for the restoration of stroke patients based on the formation of a therapeutic relationship to strengthen the psychological support and motivation, and make strategies for self-overcoming and a proper cooperation relationship with their family.

  • Hemiplegic patients who suffered from a stroke struggle with a deterioration in upper limb functions, which can both be psychologically and physically discomforting; this can also limit patients' daily tasks involving any upper limb motions. In this study, we developed an assistive device for hemiplegic patients to improve their upper limb functions. It was manufactured to train patients by using their grip strength and the range of motion of the arm. Furthermore, we produced game contents in virtual reality to induce users' immersion and interaction. It was configured as a multi-player game to help ease the mental burden of receiving the training alone, hence allowing the patient and the caregiver to join the rehabilitation training simultaneously. The assistive device and game contents developed in this study enables patients and caregivers to easily check the degree of improvements in upper limb function by viewing quantitative analysis and visualized results.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate how the combined intervention of occupation-based intervention and computerized cognitive rehabilitation treatment affects the psychosocial function, cognitive function, and depression of stroke patients. 23 stroke patients were divided into experimental group(n=11) and a control group(n=12), and the experimental group and the control group received CoTras for 4 weeks and 30 minutes each, and additionally the experimental group received task-based intervention for 30 minutes before the start of CoTras. It was conducted 20 times for a total of 4 weeks. Self-efficacy scale, stress scale, depression scale, neurobehavioral cognitive status examination were used. As a result of the study, the experimental group showed significant improvement in improvement of self-efficacy, stress, and depression than the control group, and the experimental group showed a small effect difference in magnitude of effect from the control group in cognitive function. Based on this study, it is possible to utilize the simultaneous task-based intervention with CoTras to improve psychosocial function, depression and cognitive function in stroke patients.
