  • This study in the treatment of autistic horse therapy of children with disabilities that affect the perception of parents is to some extent how well treatment for a sense of purpose and a horse therapy was to evaluate the expectations. As parents of autistic children with disabilities a questionnaire study of 100 people was used as a research tool. Analysis of the frequency analysis method, Chi-square Analysis were analyzed by taking advantage of each. Parents interested in horse therapy and children who do not have the experience of riding. In addition, Parents who have children age 10-20 riding in the response was that there would be effects Understanding mainly ride horses in the horse therapy is physical exercise. Expectations in the therapeutic horse therapy should be major(occupational therapy, physical therapy, speech therapy). Horse therapy is suitable for individual therapy at least for 2-3 weeks and the Confederacy.

  • As a means of treatment for people with disabilities, there is a growing interest in horse riding. Horse riding improves physical conditions such as muscles, joints, and cardiopulmonary function, alleviates tension, and encourages confidence through large animals such as horses. The various therapeutic effects of therapeutic horse riding have been recognized by many medical professionals, including the American Occupational Therapy and Physical Therapy Association. On the other hand, in Korea, there is not yet a scientific basis for the therapeutic effects of specific diseases or clinical treatments. The purpose of this study was to investigate the possibility of rehabilitation related professional worker's therapeutic horse riding. Recognition and use experience of therapeutic horse riding were generally low, but doctors who wanted to use it when the expectation of effectiveness and therapeutic horse riding education were assumed were relatively high. Based on these results, it can be confirmed that the therapeutic horse riding will be recognized as a clinical treatment method in the future.

The Effects of Therapeutic Horse Riding, Adaptive Behavior in Adult with Intellectual Disabilities (재활승마가 지적장애 성인의 적응행동에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of therapeutic horse riding on adult with intellectual disability in terms of adaptive behavior. The subjects were 16 adults with intellectual disability. They participated in a therapeutic horse riding program of 60 minutes long, Twice a week for 12 weeks. The participants' adaptive behavior level were measured before and after 12 weeks of program with Social Maturity Scale. The data was analyzed by paired t-test using the SPSS. After 12 weeks of therapeutic horse riding program, there was a significant improvements on self-help, task, self-regulation & socialization. However, locomotion, communication changes did not reach statistical significance. The result indicates that therapeutic horse riding has a positive effect on adults with intellectual disability in self-help, task, self-regulation & socialization. This study suggests that therapeutic horse riding could be considered an effective method on adults with intellectual disability to improve adaptive behavior.

Effects of the Participation in the Rehabilitation Horseback Riding Program on Sleep for individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (재활승마 프로그램 참여가 자폐성 장애인들의 수면에 미치는 영향)

  • This study aimed to investigate the effect of the participation in rehabilitation horseback riding program on the sleep, and to provide the basic data by analyzing the sleep of individuals with autism spectrum disorders. This study subjects consisted of 10 individuals with autism spectrum disorders residing in a residential care facility for the people with intellectual disabilities. They participated in the 12 weeks rehabilitation horseback riding program regularly. To investigate the effects of participating this program on sleep, subjects' sleep time, wake-up time, total sleep time and wake-up frequency during sleep were measured. Descriptive statistics and Friedman test were conducted to analyze the change the sleep. As a reulst of anlysis, it was found that the sleep time came earlier, the total sleep time increased, and the wake-up frequency during sleep reduced. Therefore, the rehabilitation horseback riding program participation was shown to have a positive effect on the subjects' sleep. Since the application of this program can act as a positive factor in the sleep of the participations, it is expected to be used as an in-facility program for the residents with autism spectrum disorders.

The Screening Tool for Equine Assisted Activities and Therapies in Children and Adolescents : A Convergence Study with the Delphi Method (소아청소년을 대상으로 한 재활승마 선별도구 : 델파이 방법을 통한 융합연구)

  • The aim of this study was to develop the Equine Assisted Activities and Therapies(EAAT) screening tool for children and adolescents, which can be available for the EAAT instructors to screen potential participants in the riding center. The preliminary screening tool was developed by six experts and several international guidelines were used for the references. A two-round Delphi study was performed with 23 experts. Panel members were asked to rate their (dis)agreement with each tool's item on an 11-point scale. The consensus was considered to be reached when the item was scored more than 8. The consensus was reached on 39 items out of 48, resulting the final screening tool's items are to be 39. The resulting screening tool could contribute to make safer EAAT settings for participants and the future investigations in adult subjects will be needed.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the analysis on exercise effect of basic physical fitness, flexibility and muscle function using electric horseback riding machine. Subjects were ten males and ten females who were 20th aged young adults. They exercised every 45-min a day. Horse riding exercise has progressed 3-days a week till 4-weeks. We measured contents of basic physical fitness, flexibility and joint torque in lumbar. The results showed that contents of human body effect were higher than before exercise. We thought that stimulated by 3-D movement in horseback riding exercise instrument could be activated joints and muscles with the unused generally This continuous movement could reduce tonus of muscle and relax stiff muscles. horseback riding have significant effect with whole body exercise, also it could provide efficient exercise for the elder and disabled person.

Effect of Horseback Riding on Bone Density of the Senior Citizen (승마가 노인의 골밀도에 미치는 영향)

  • This study is intended to identify how horseback riding affect the bone density of the elderly. A total of 31 normal senior citizens participated in the research, who were randomly divided into two groups: 15 in horseback riding exercise group and 16 in horseback riding machine exercise group. A horseback riding exercise program was carried out for 25 minutes twice a week for 12 weeks. A pre-test was conducted before starting the program and two post-tests were conducted 6 weeks and 12 weeks after exercises in the same way as the pre-test. Measured items were bone density of lumbar vertebrae and femur. In order to identify the changes in measurement variables before exercises and 6 weeks and 12 weeks after exercises, two-way repeated analysis of variance were used. The comparison of changes in the bone density in both groups revealed that there were significant differences in lumbar vertebrae L3, L4, femur trochanter in both groups over time. This study suggests that three-dimensional movements of horses through horseback riding exercises induce normal movements of senior citizens, providing positive effects on their bone density. If appropriate horse riding exercise programs are used considering the health status, time and economic conditions, and preferences of senior citizens, it would improve their quality of life.

Effectiveness of Horse-Riding Exercise for the Stroke Patients' Muscle Thickness of Lower Extremity (승마운동이 뇌졸중환자의 하지 근 두께에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine how horse-riding exercise would be effective on the stroke patients' muscle thickness of lower extremity. The 30 stroke patients who were hospitalized in a hospital located in G metropolitan city were selected for this study. These subjects were randomly placed in a horse-riding exercise group (n=15) and a control group (n=15). The horse-riding exercise group received three 20-minute exercises a week for a total of 6 weeks. An ultrasound imaging equipment was used to measured The thicknesses of the rectus femoris (RF), tibialis anterior (TA), medial gastrocnemius (MG), and gluteus medius (GM). After the completion of a 6-week exercise program, same measurement was conducted for all study subjects. The data were analyzed using a paired t-test and independent t-test to determine the statistical significance. As a result, muscle thickness was significantly differentiated before and after the intervention in each group. The thicknesses of all the four muscles significantly increased after exercise in the horse-riding exercise group. The thicknesses of the RF, GM, and TA significantly increased after exercise in the control group. In conclusion, horse-riding exercise increased the thickness of the lower extremity skeletal muscles by stabilizing the knees and activating the extensor muscles of the lower extremities.

Effects of Rehabilitation Horse Riding on the Balance and Geriatric Quality of Life Scale of the Elderly (재활승마가 노인의 균형과 노인 삶의 질척도에 미치는 영향)

  • Purpose The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of rehabilitation horse riding exercise on the balance and Geriatric Quality of Life Scale (GQOL) of the elderly. Methods The subjects were 14 elderly males who consisted of 7 in the experimental group and 7 in the control group. The subjected performed rehabilitation horse riding exercise twice a week for 12 weeks. For balance measurements, leftright and anteriorposterior weight bearing, and BBS were tested using GymPlate. In addition, the GQOL was evaluated. Results The results of this study show that in the experimental group, there were significant differences in balance ability and GQOL after the rehabilitation horse riding exercise (P<0.01), but there was no significant difference in the control group (P>0.05). Furthermore, the experimental and control groups showed significant differences in balance ability and GQOL (P<0.01). Conclusion Rehabilitation horse riding exercise is effective in improving the balance ability of the elderly, which also had an effect on the GQOL.
