Performance Evaluation of Structural Concrete Using Recycled Aggregate (재생골재를 사용한 구조용 콘크리트의 성능평가)

  • In the past, recycled aggregate was used very limitedly in low value-added areas such as the base layer of roads. However, in response to the shortage of natural aggregate, high consciousness of resource saving and changed idea on environment, the quality of recycled aggregate has been improved considerably, and the percentage of recycled construction waste is increasing every year compared to simple landfill or incineration. Recently the Act on the Promotion of Construction Waste Recycling was enacted on December 2003 for the efficient use of recycled aggregate, and the Standards for the Quality of Recycled Aggregate for Concrete (Proposal) were announced in order to use and manage recycled aggregate according to quality. According to the Standards for the Quality of Recycled Aggregate for Concrete (Proposal), it is recommended to substitute recycled coarse aggregate and fine aggregate below 30% each. However, compared to the trend of recycling, the recycling rate of aggregate is still quite low. It is because of low performance of recycled aggregate, users' lack of understanding, etc. These problems basically come from the decrease of strength of recycled concrete resulting from the use of recycled aggregate, and recycled aggregate is still considered not reliable because there have been not many cases of actual application. If the basic problem of strength decrease is solved and data on recycled aggregate is provided through actual field placing, we may maximize the use of recycled aggregate. Thus, in order to maximize the use of recycled aggregate that satisfy the recycled aggregate quality standards, the present study made a mock-up similar to real structures, evaluated its performance and examined the field applicability of recycled aggregate concrete.

Automated Seismic Design Method for Reinforced Concrete Structures (철근 콘트리트 구조물의 전산에 의한 내진설계법)

  • Most of the conventional aseismic design methods for reinforced concrete structures, based on the strong¬column weak-beam design concept, do not necessarily the state of damage distribution over the entire frame. This paper introduces a seismic damage-controlled design method for RC frames which aim at individual member damage indices. Three design parameters, namely the longitudinal steel ratio, the confinement steel ratio and the frame member depth, were studied for their influence on the frame response to an earthquake. The usefulness of this design method will be demonstrated with a three-bay four-story building frame so that, on the one hand, the method will reduce the damage as measured by the global damage index under the same earthquake and, on the other hand, will lead to a larger capacity enabling stronger earthquakes to be accom¬odated .

A Fundamental Study for Design of Electric Energy Harvesting Device using PZT on the Road (도로용 압전발전체 시험모듈 설계를 위한 기초 실험 연구)

  • Green house gas emissions are increasing as development of the industrial economy of the international community. Many countries in the world are endeavoring to reduce green house gas emissions under severe climate change. In order to protect grobal warming, government is trying to reduce green gas emissions under "Low Carbon Green Growth Policy" and investing climiate-firendly industries such as renewable energy harvesting. Renewable energy has been rapidly developing as a result of investment for development technology of using natural energy such as solar, wind, tidal, etc. There are lots of waste energy in the road space. However, nobody is not interested in waste energy from the road space. This paper present a fundamentally experimental study of energy harvesting technique to use waste energy in the road. The waste energy in the road is covered a pressure and impact of vehicles on the road, the radiant heat from asphalt pavement, road noise and vibration etc. In this study, an energy harvesting device using piezoelectric element is proposed and various tests are conducted to investigate a characteristic of this device as function of impact loading based on piezoelectric effect behavior. This paper shows the energy harvesting results of the device using domestic piezoelectirc element as a function of impact load size and pavement types.
