This study describes the results of Coefficient of Performance(COP) analysis by cycle simulation for two types of absorption-compression hybrid cycle using the Water/Lithium Bromide solution pair. These types are basic hybrid systems introducing a mechanical compression process into the refrigerant vapor phase of the single effect absorption cycle. In absorption-compression hybrid cycles, coefficient of performance is improved compared with absorption cycle. Hybrid cycle Type 2 is considered as a key technology to support energy utilization system, given its capability of utilizing waste heat to drive system with a high level of efficiency.
This paper concerns the study of a two-stage binary absorption cycle employing the refrigerant/absorbent combinations of $LiBr/H_2O$ and $NH_3/H_2O$. This cycle consists of coupling two single-effect absorption cycles so that the first stage absorber and condenser produces heating water to evaporate refrigerant in the evaporator of the second stage. The effect of operating variables such as evaporator temperature, condenser and absorber temperature, and generator temperature on the coefficient of performance and temperature lift have been studied for two-stage binary absorption heat pump systems. It is found that this cycle has a large temperature lift at $105^{\circ}C$ of optimum generator temperature to obtain $50^{\circ}C$ of condenser temperature.

Low-cycle thermal fatigue problem resulting from multiple use of a liquid rocket engine has to be considered for the development of a reusable launch vehicle. In this study, life prediction equations suggested by previous researchers were compared as applied to various copper alloy cases to predict fatigue lives from tensile test data. The present study has revealed that among the presently considered life prediction methods, universal slopes method provides the best life prediction result for the copper alloys, and the modified Mitchell's method provides the best life prediction result for oxygen free high conductivity (OFHC) copper.

For the past few years, the concern for clean energy has been greatly increased. Ocean thermal Energy Conversion(OTEC) power plants are studied as a viable option for the supply of clean energy. In this study, we examined the thermodynamic performance of the OTEC power system for the production of electric power. Computer simulation programs were developed under the same condition and various working fluids for closed Rankine cycle, regenerative cycle, Kalina cycle, open cycle, and hybrid cycle. The results show that the regenerative cycle showed the best system efficiency. And then we examined the thermodynamic performance of regenerative cycle OTEC power system using the condenser effluent from Uljin nuclear power plant instead of the surface water. The highest system efficiency of the condition was 4.55% and the highest net power was 181 MW.

Comparison of the cooling performance is provided between the desiccant cool-ing systems incorporating a direct evaporative cooler and a regenerative evaporative cooler, respectively. Cycle simulation is conducted, and the cooling capacity and COP are evaluated at various temperature and humidity conditions. The COP of the system with a regenerative evaporative cooler and the regeneration temperature of 6$0^{\circ}C$ is evaluated 0.65 at the outdoor air condition of 35$^{\circ}C$ and 40% RH. This value is found about 3.4 times larger than that of the system with a direct evaporative cooler. Furthermore, incorporating a regenerative evaporative cooler eliminates the need for deep dehumidification in a desiccant dehumidifier that is necessary to achieve low air temperature in the system with a direct evaporative cooler. Subsequently, the regenerative evaporative cooler enables the use of low temperature heat source to regenerate the dehumidifier permitting the desiccant cooling system more beneficial compared with other thermal driven air conditioners.

It was designed and tested ignition that an oxidizer rich preburner for a staged combustion cycle liquid rocket engine propelled by kerosene and LOx. Operation conditions of the preburner are about 60 of OF ratio and 20 MPa of combustion pressure. Ignition characteristics were compared by propellants flowrate. As the results, the higher propellants flowrate, the shorter the ignition delay time and the higher ignition stiffness. The ignition delay time was affected by incoming the oxidizer flowrate through the refrigerative cooling channels. The oxidizer flowrate from the cooling channels decreased by inflow of combustion gas during initial ignition. The oxidizer flowrate of the cooling channels increases, it is rapid recovery by cooling effect, eventually the ignition delay time decreases.
A study about the fatigue life of copper alloy which is used in inner jacket of regenerative cooling chamber of liquid rocket engine has been performed. Mechanical properties of the material and fatigue life have been taken from tensile tests and low-cycle fatigue tests at room temperature and several elevated temperatures. Original universal slopes method, modified universal slopes method, Mitchell's method, Baumel and Seeger's method, and Ong's method have been used for predicting the fatigue data. It was found that the novel life prediction method should be developed for the copper alloys since almost all data have not been predicted well with the widely used methods.

Recently, development efforts of triple-effect absorption chiller have been increased in order to improve the efficiency of double-effect absorption chiller. However, triple-effect absorption chiller has some disadvantages, including high corrosion characteristic of LiBr solution at high temperature of $200^{\circ}C$. Moreover, it is necessary to develop new components for operation under high pressure of 2 bars even though COP is increased to 1.6 or 1.7. The objective of this study was to introduce a new system by combining double effect absorption chiller with single effect absorption chiller with multi-generators using bypass flow of LiBr dilute solution to $3^{rd}$ generator to overcome the disadvantages of triple-effect chiller and improve energy efficiency. Results indicate that the new absorption cycle had a much higher efficiency than double-effect chiller system, showing significant improvement when bypass solution flow rate of 25% was applied to the $3^{rd}$ generator using the main dilute solution of the absorber. The COP of the new chiller system was found to be 1.438, which was 21.7% higher than that (1.18) of the present double-effect system. The COP was decreased when solution by-pass rate to the $3^{rd}$ generator was increased. In addition, lower cooling water temperature caused higher COP. Therefore, the multi-generator system with by-pass solution might be an excellent chiller alternative to triple-effect absorption chiller with higher efficiency.

This research aims todevelopa compression/absorption hybrid heat pump system using an $NH_3/H_2O$ as working fluid. The heatpump cycle is based on a combination of compression and absorption cycles. The cycle consists of two-stage compressors, absorbers, a desorber, a desuperheater, solution heat exchangers, a solution pump, a rectifier, and a liquid/vapor separator. The compression/absorption hybrid heat pump was designed to produce hot water above $90^{\circ}C$ using high-temperature glide during a two-phase heat transfer. Distinct characteristics of the nonlinear temperature profile should be considered to maximize the performance of the absorber. In this study, the performance of the absorber was investigated depending on the capacity, shape, and arrangementof the plate heat exchangers with regard tothe concentration and distribution at the inlet of the absorber.
