  • Uncertainty analysis of the FLB accident is performed for KNU-1 using the response surface methodology and Monte Carlo simulation. The FLB analyses using the RELAP4/Mod6 were performed a number of times to generate the data base for the uncertainty analysis, along with the EM calculation for comparison purpose. Two kinds of input sets are utilized for response surface method to investigate and compare the effects of the uncertainty of input variables on the RCS peak pressure following a FLB. The first set is composed of six major plant operational parameters and the second set is composed of five major modelling parameters. It is found through the analysis of results that the uncertainties of modelling parameters have more influence on the RCS peak pressure than the uncertainties of plant operational parameters and that the extra margin of 9% of peak pressure is gained. And one of the assumptions of EM calculation, which is usually accepted as conservative is found to be erroneous, that is, the initial core inlet temperature is found to act negatively on the RCS pressure following a FLB.

  • Maritime safety and marine environmental protection are the most important topic in marine society. But, so many marine accidents have been occurred with the development of marine transportation industry. On the other side, ship is being operated under a highly dynamic environment and many factors are related with ship's collision Nowadays, the increasing tendency to the human errors of ship's collision is remarkable, and the investigation of the human errors has been heavily concentrated. This study analysed on the human errors of ship's collision related to the negligence of lookout and classified basic error type using GEMS(Generic Error Modeling System) dynamic model.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of the project approach on the thinking faculty improvement of preschoolers. The subjects in this study were 60 preschoolers who were selected from S kindergarten in Gyeonggi Province. After an experimental group and a control group were organized with 30 preschoolers each, the experimental group engaged in project activities that were based on the project approach, and the control group didn't. As a result of making a comparative analysis, the following findings were given. The preschoolers who participated in the project approach were found to excel over the other preschoolers who didn't participate in perceptual thinking, analytic thinking, synthetical thinking, inferential thinking and thinking faculty. Therefore there should be more consideration to the project approach in the sector of early childhood education, since the activities are effective in improving the thinking faculty of preschoolers.

  • The main cause of cable accidents is the accelerated deterioration of the cable itself or internal and external electrical, mechanical, chemical, thermal, moisture intrusion, etc., which reduces insulation performance and causes insulation breakdown, leading to cable accidents. Insulation deterioration can occur even when there is no change in the appearance of the cable, so there is a difficulty in preventing cable accidents due to insulation deterioration. Since cable accidents can occur in areas with poor insulation due to the effects of overvoltage and overcurrent, it is necessary to comprehensively analyze transformers and circuit breakers, and ground faults caused by phase-to-phase imbalance. Ground fault accidents due to insulation breakdown of cables can occur due to defects in the cable itself and poor cable construction, as well as operational influences, arcs during operation of electrical equipment (switchers, circuit breakers, etc.). analysis is needed. This study intends to examine the causes of cable accidents through analysis of cable accidents that occurred in a manufacturing factory.

  • A plant simulation code, MCSIM (Micro-Computer SIMulator), has been developed to simulate plant transient accidents for pressurized water reactors. Reactor coolant system is modeled using decoupled energy and momentum equations, drift flux two-phase flow model and integral momentum equation. A two-fluid pressurizer model is used to simulate the pressurizer dynamics. Pot Boiler model is used for steam generator, steady-state decoupled energy and momentum equations for secondary side system, and point kinetics equations for nuclear power calculation. For test of the present version of MCSIM, complete loss of flow and RCCA withdrawal accidents are calculated with MCSIM. The results are compared with those in FSAR of KNU 5 & 6.

  • A continued operation of RCPs during a certain small break LOCA may increase unnecessary inventory loss from the RCS causing a severe core uncovery which might lead to a fuel failure. After TMI-2 accident, the CEOG developed RCP trip strategy called “Trip-Two/Leave-Two” (T2/L2) in response to NRC requests and incorporated it in the generic EPG for CE plants. The T2/L2 RCP trip strategy consists of tripping the first two RCPs on low RCS pressure and then tripping the remaining two RCPs if a LOCA has occurred. This analysis determines the RCP trip setpoint and demonstrates the safe operational aspects of RCP trip strategy during a small break LOCA for YGN 3&4. The trip setpoint of the first too RCPs for YGN 3&4 is calculated to be 1775 psia in pressurizer pressure based on the limiting small break LOCA with 0.15 ft$^2$ break size in the hot leg. The analysis results show that YGN 3&4 can maintain the core coolability even if the operator fails to trip the second too RCPs or trips at worst time. Also, the YGN 3&4 RCP trip strategy demonstrates that both the 10 CFR 50.46 requirements on PCT and the ANSI standards 58.8 requirements on operator action time can be satisfied with enough margin. Therefore, it is concluded that the T2/L2 RCP trip strategy with a trip setpoint of 1775 psia for YGN 3&4 can provide improved operator guidance for the RCP operation during accidents.
