Analytical and Experimental Study for Development of Composite Coil Springs (복합재 코일스프링 개발을 위한 수치해석 및 실험적 연구)

  • This paper shows the feasibility of using carbon-fiber-reinforced polymer (CFRP) composite materials for manufacturing automotive coil springs. For achieving weight reduction by replacing steel with composite materials, it is essential to optimize the material parameters and design variables of the coil spring. First, the shear modulus of a CFRP beam model, which has $45^{\circ}$ ply angles for maximum torsional stiffness, was calculated and compared with the test results. The diameter of the composite spring was predicted to be 17.5 mm for ensuring a spring rate equal to that when using steel material. Finally, a finite element model of the composite coil spring with $45^{\circ}$ ply angles and 17.5 mm wire diameter was constructed and analyzed for obtaining the static spring rate, which was then compared with experimental results.

  • 본 연구에서는 산회물 혼합법, 솔-젤법, 공침법등의 세가지 방법으로 PbTiO$_{3}$분말을 제조하여 폴리머와 혼합 O-3 복합재료를 제작한 후, 하이드로폰으로의 응용을 위한 제 특성을 고찰하였다. 비유전상수는 PbTiO$_{3}$의 체적비 증가에 따라 지수함수적으로 증가하였으며 유전손실은 선형적으로 증가하였다. 수정입방체 모델로 부터 계산된 변형계수 n은 M-O, S-G, C-P의 경우 각각 0.724, 0.585, 0.483으로 나타났다. 압전 변형계수 d$_{33}$는 PbTiO$_{3}$의 체적비, 분극전장 및 분극 시간의 증가에 따라 증가하였으며 일정시간 경과후에는 포화값을 나타내었다.다.

  • The present work focuses on the characterization of material parameters of the Overlay(multilinear hardening) model for analyzing the non-isothermal cyclic deformation. In the previous study, all the parameters were especially based on the Overlay theories, and a simple method was suggested to find out the best material parameters for the isothermal cyclic deformation analysis. Based on the previous research this paper f dther improves the isothermal parameters and suggests how to apply the isothermal parameters to the non-isothermal conditions especially for the description of TMF(Thermo-Mechanical Fatigue) hysteresis behavior. The parameters are determined and calibrated using 400 series stainless steel test data in the reference papers. For the implementation into ABAQUS, a user subroutine is developed by means of ABAQUS/UMAT. The finite element results show good agreement with test for the case of uniaxial non-isothermal cyclic loading, signifying the proposed method can be used in the TMF analysis of the converter-inserted heavy duty muffler system and the stainless steel exhaust-manifold system which are to be done in our future research.

Electronic Structure and Surface Phonon of Ultrathin MgO Layers on TiC(001) Surface (TiC(001) 면에 성장된 MgO 초박막의 전자구조 및 표면포논)

  • TiC(001) 면위에 Mg 금속을 단원자층으로 증착시킨 후 산화 및 열처리 과정을 거쳐서 MgO 초박막을 성장시키고, 성장된 MgO 막의 전자상태 및 표면포논을 UPS, XPS 및 HREELS를 사용하여 측정하였다. 전도성 기판위에 epitaxial 산화물막을 성장시킨 후 성장된 막의 전자구조 및 표면포논을 측정함으로써 벌크에서 분리된 2차원적 특성을 갖는 '표면 모델'의 물성을 연구하고자 하였는데, 이러한 '표면모델'은 잘 배열된 원자구조를 얻을 수 있고 두께가 충분히 얇아서 전하축적을 피할 수 있기 때문이다. 기판으로는 MgO와 같은 암염형 결정구조를 갖고 있고, 격자상수 차이가 2.6% 로서 매우 작으며, 비저항이 매우 낮은 전이 금속 탄화물 중의 하나인 TiC(001) 면을 사용하였다. TiC(001)면에 증착된 MgO층의 UPS He-l 스펙트럼을 측정한 결과 O2p및 XPS스펙트럼은 열처리를 전후로 하여 변하지 않았으며, 이로부터 상온에서 산소의 확산만으로 MgO 상이 형성됨을 알 수 있었다. MgO초박막의 표면 포논을 HREELS를 사용하여 검출하였다. 거시적 포논중에서 F-K 파 및 Rayleigh 모드가 관찰되었는데, F-k파는 MgO막의 2차원성으로 인하여 벌크의 경우보다 높은 진동 에너지를 갖고 있었고 Rayleigh모드는 벌크 MgO와 유사한 분산관계를 보였다. 미시적 포논중에서 Wallis(S/sub 2/)모드가 측정되었는데, 그 진동에너지는 벌크에서와 같고 off-specular방향에서도 소멸되지 않았다.

Nonlinear Finite Element Crash Analysis of Guardrail Structures Using Supports Made of Composite Materials (복합재 지주를 적용한 가드레일 구조체의 비선형 유한요소 충돌 해석)

  • This study performed a nonlinear finite element crash analysis of guardrail structures using supports made of composite materials. In this study, we used a new [0/90/90/0] laminated Boron fiber composite for resisting the crash effects. Based on the improved ground-structure interaction model, appropriate ground properties to the support were determined. In particular, the complex crash mechanism of guardrails was studied using various parameters. The parametric studies are focused on the various effects of car crash on the structural performance and thickness of supports. The numerical results for various parameters are verified by comparing those using existing steel materials.

  • This study investigated that the stress reduction of single edge cracked plates with patch repairs according to different type of patching such as material, size and thickness of patch and adhesive as well as single sided or double sided patches. As a numerical tool, the p-convergent partial layerwise model has been employed. The proposed model is formulated by assuming piecewise linear variation of in-plane displacement and a constant value of out-of-plane displacements across thickness. The integrals of Legendre polynomials are chosen to define displacement fields and Gauss-Lobatto numerical integration is implemented in order to directly obtain maximum values occurred at the nodal points of each layer without other extrapolation techniques. Also, total strain energy release rate method is adopted to obtain stress intensity factors. Numerical examples are presented not only to demonstrate the stress reduction effect in terms of non-dimensional stress intensity factor and deflection with respect to different type of patch repairs, but also the accuracy of proposed model.

  • Elastic-viscoplastic structural analysis has been performed for regenerative cooling chamber of liquid rocket thrust chamber using Bodner-Partom visco-plastic model. Strain rate test was conducted for a copper alloy at various temperatures in order to get material constants of visco-plastic model used in the structural analysis. Material constants of visco-plastic model were obtained from strain rate test results and visco-plastic model was incorporated into finite element program, Marc, by means of a user subroutine. The structural analysis results indicated that the deformation of cooling channel is mostly caused by thermal loading rather than pressure loading and confirmed structural stability of the cooling channel under the operating condition.

Deflection Prediction of Piezo-composite Unimorph Actuator Considering Material Property Change of Piezoelectric Single Crystal for Compression Stress Variation (압축 응력 변화에 대한 압전 단결정의 물성 변화를 고려한 압전 복합재료 작동기의 작동 변위 예측)

  • In this study, LIPCA-S2 actuator with a piezoelectric single crystal layer and a carbon/epoxy layer was designed and evaluated to increase actuation performance of piezo-composite unimorph actuator. A curvature change model generated by the induced strain of a piezoelectric layer was used to predict the tip displacement of the piezo-composite unimorph cantilever. However, we found that there was big difference between the predicted and the measured tip displacement of LIPCA-S2 cantilever actuator when we used the previous linear prediction model. A new prediction model considering the change of piezoelectric strain coefficient and elastic modulus for the compression stress variation of the PMN-29PT single crystal layer was used and it was found that the difference between the predicted and the measured tip displacement reduced considerably.

Estimation of Empirical Fatigue Crack Propagation Model of AZ31 Magnesium Alloys under Different Specimen Thickness Conditions (AZ31 마그네슘합금의 시편두께 조건에 따른 실험적 피로균열전파모델 평가)

  • It is the primary aim of this paper to propose the empirical fatigue crack propagation model fit to describe a crack growth behavior of AZ31 magnesium alloys under the different specimen thickness conditions. The empirical models estimated are Paris-Erdogan model, Walker model, Forman model, and modified-Forman model. The parameters of each model are estimated by maximum likelihood method. The statistical crack growth data needed for an estimation of empirical models are obtained by fatigue crack propagation tests under the three cases of specimen thickness. It is found that the good empirical models fit to describe a crack growth behavior of AZ31 magnesium alloys under the different specimen thickness conditions are Paris-Erdogan model and Walker model. It is also verified that a fatigue crack growth rate exponent of a empirical model may be a material constant at the specimen thickness conditions of 4.75mm and 6.60mm.

Analysis of Chloride ion Penetration for In-Situation Harbor Concrete Structures (현장 항만 콘크리트 구조물에 대한 염소이온 침투 해석)

  • The chloride penetration model, which considers diffusion and sorption, is proposed. The FEM program developed on the basis of the diffusion and sorption model provides the estimation of chloride concentration variation according to cyclic humidity and temperature. The humidity diffusion analysis is carried out, and the chloride ion diffusion and sorption analysis are conducted on the basis of the pre-estimated humidity data in each element. Each element has different variables at different ages and locations in analysis. At early ages, the difference of relative humidity between inner and outer concretes causes the chloride ion penetration by sorption. As the humidity diffusion reduces the difference of relative humidity between inner md outer concretes with age, the effect of sorption on the chloride ion penetration decreases with age. The cyclic humidity increases the effect of sorption on the chloride ion penetration at early ages, and increases the quantity of chloride ion around steel at later ages. Therefore, the in-situ analysis of chloride ion Penetration for harbor concrete structures must be Performed considering the cyclic humidity conditionandthelongtermsorption.
