Analytical Solution for Long Waves on Axis-Symmetric Topographies (축 대칭 지형 위를 전파하는 장파의 해석해)

  • In this study, we develop analytical solutions for long waves propagating over several types of axis-symmetric topographies where the water depth varies in an arbitrary power of radial distance. The first type is a cylindrical island mounted on a shoal. The second type is a circular island. To get the solution, the methods of separation of variables, Taylor series expansion and Frobenius series are used. Developed analytical solutions are validated by comparing with previously developed analytical solutions. We also investigate various cases with different incident wave periods, radii of the shoal, and the powers of radial distance.

Development of Finite Element Method for the Extended Boussinesq Equations (확장형 Boussinesq 방정식의 유한요소모형 개발)

  • A finite element model is developed for the extended Boussinesq equations that is capable of simulating the dynamics of long and short waves. Galerkin weighted residual method and the introduction of auxiliary variables for 3rd spatial derivative terms in the governing equations are used for the model development. The Adams-Bashforth-Moulton Predictor Corrector scheme is used as a time integration scheme for the extended Boussinesq finite element model so that the truncation error would not produce any non-physical dispersion or dissipation. This developed model is applied to the problems of solitary wave propagation. Predicted results is compared to available analytical solutions and laboratory measurements. A good agreement is observed.

A Case Study on the Heat budget of the Marine Atmosphere Boundary Layer due to inflow of cloud on observation at Ulleungdo (울릉도에서 구름 유입시 관측한 해양대기경계층의 열수지에 관한 사례연구)

  • In order to study developments of the marine atmosphere boundary layer in cloud incoming, important parameters like heat advection, surface layer heat flux, and radiation energy were estimated using the rawinsonde, AWS data, satellite images, and buoy data which was installed at the East Sea. We explained the variation and the development of mixed layer in terms of surface layer heat flux and long wave radiation under the cloudy sky. The heat flux was obtained by means of the bulk method. Conservation of heat was analysed by heat budget equation, which was consist of buoy data in the East sea, and sounding data at Ulleungdo and at Pohang. During the inflow of cloud, radiative cooling at the surface after was suppressed and long wave radiation from cloud played a role of warming. The surface layer temperature was also remained warm by influence of warm advection from south-easterly direction. The air temperature in night was increased, as a result, mixed layer was not destroyed and The nocturnal boundary layer was composed of the mixed layer and the residual layer.

Annealing effects of ZnSe epilayer grown by hot-well epiraxy method (Hot - wall epitaxy 방법으로 성장한 ZnSe 박막의 열처리 효과)

  • The photoluminescened experiments at temperature of 10K were carride out for ZnSe epilayers grown by hot-wall epitaxy. The upper and lower polariton peaks of the neutral dound exciton $I_2$($D^{\circ}$,X) for as-grown epilayer have been dominantly observed.For the heat-treatment under Se ambient,the origin of $I_2$ emission is confirmed to be related to Se-vacancy.The extra neutral acceptor bound exciton $I_1$$^d$ is also observed.The ZnSe epilayer shows the self-compensation effect and it is hard to be converted into p-type ZnSe epilayer.However,the photoluminescence spectrum of the annealed sample in Se ambient shows the intense $I_1$$^d$ emission.This indicates that in the annealed ZnSe epilayer,there are many acceptor levels due to the opical p-type converstion. The binding energy of acceptor-impurity is ecaluated to the value of 268meV and the self-activated emission is disappeared by thermal annealing under Se ambient,which indicates the association with Se-vacancy.

Characteristics of Metal Sensor using Variable Frequency (가변주파수형 금속감지 센서의 특성)

  • This Electromagnetic metal piece detection sensor, having high sensitivity even under high humidity and dust density, using LVDT was investigated. Metal detection characteristics using phase detection method, for 3 frequencies covering ELF and LF band, were experimentally measured. It was found that the sensitivity for metal and animal food, in which metal piece was included, was exponentially increased as frequency increased. Reducing cutoff frequency of LPF after PD was found to be effective to proportionally increase sensitivity. Also the sensitivity of metal piece detection was enhanced by optimizing BPF bandwidth and SNR. Metal piece detection limit using available ferrous test samples was found to be 0.7mm diameter from the experiment using 50kHz, in ELF band, which was known to have better selectivity to animal food. is an example of ABSTRACT format.

Wave Attenuation due to Water-Front Vegetation (수변식생에 의한 파랑감쇠 특성)

  • Recently, it has been widely recognized that water-front and coastal vegetations may have great value in supporting fisheries, protecting from wave attack, stabilizing the sea bed and maintaining good scenery. Hydrodynamic factors playa major role in the functions of water quality and ecosystems. However, the studies on numerical and analytical process of wave propagation are few and far behind compared to those on the hydrodynamic roles of water-front vegetations. In this study, in order to express wave attenuation into water-front vegetation, a numerical model based on the unsteady mild slope equation is developed. This result is compared with an analytical model for describing the wave attenuation by assumed simple long wave condition. Based on both the analytical and numerical results, the physical properties of the wave attenuation are examined under various wave, geometric and vegetation conditions. Through comparisons between the analytical and numerical results, the effects of the vegetation properties, wave properties and model parameters such as the momentum exchange coefficient have been clarified.

  • 지진해일은 진행속도가 빠르고 파장이 길며 파형의 변화 없이 먼 거리를 진행 할 수 있어 주변지역은 물론 멀리 떨어진 지역에도 심한 범람피해를 야기시킨다. 지진해일의 일반적인 특징으로 장파와 단파가 합성되어 있고 먼 거리를 전파할 경우 분산효과의 역할이 중요하게 된다. 특히 우리나라의 동해안에 영향을 주는 지진해일은 단주기파 성분이 강하고 파장에 비해 먼 거리를 전파하기에 분산을 고려하는 선형 Boussinesq 방정식을 지배방정식으로 사용하는 것이 바람직하다. 하지만 지금까지의 지진해일 전파모의를 위한 모형은 선형 Boussinesq 방정식의 복잡한 계산과 계산시간이 길다는 단점 때문에 선형 천수방정식을 지배방정식으로 사용하고 분산효과는 수치분산을 이용하여 고려해왔다. 지진해일 해석 시 일반적으로 사용되어 오던 기존의 leap-frog 유한차분 모형(Imamura et al., 1988; 조용식, 1996)은 지배방정식으로 선형 천수방정식을 사용하고 파의 분산효과는 수치분산을 이용하여 고려하므로 정해진 시간 간격에 대해 수심에 따라 격자 간격을 적절히 선택해야 하는데 수심이 복잡하게 변하는 경우 격자간격 조정이 불가능하여 분산효과를 정도 높게 고려할 수 없다. 이 문제점을 해결하기 위하여 윤성범 등(2004)은 파동방정식의 인위적인 분산항을 이용하여 Boussinesq 방정식의 분산효과를 고려할 수 있는 능동적인 분산보정기법을 제안하였고 Cho et al.(2007)는 일정한 수심에서 수치적인 분산오차가 Boussinesq 방정식의 물리적인 분산항을 대체하도록 수심, 격자 간격 및 계산 시간 간격 사이의 관계식을 유도하고 Boussinesq 방정식의 분산항과 일치하는 수치분산을 이용하여 실용적인 분산보정기법을 개발하였다. 이에 Ahn(2010)은 현재 컴퓨터의 계산 능력이 향상되어 선형 Boussinesq 방정식을 직접 차분하여 계산하는데 무리가 없다고 판단하여 선형 Boussinesq 방정식을 직접 차분한 모형을 개발하였다. 본 연구에서는 기존의 원해 지진해일 전파모의에 이용되어왔던 선형 천수방정식에 수치분산을 고려한 모형 대신 선형 Boussinesq 방정식의 유한차분 모형을 제안하였으며 기존의 선형 Boussinesq 방정식 모형의 격자와 수심간의 제약을 없애기 위해 차분 기법을 달리 한 2차 정확도의 유한차분 모형을 제안하였다. 검증을 위하여 선형 Boussinesq 방정식의 해석해(Carrier, 1991)와 비교하였다.

Experimental Study of Wave-Absorbing Performance by Horizontal Punching Plates (수평형 타공판에 의한 소파성능의 실험적 연구)

  • Wave absorbing system is needed at various kinds of wave basins (wave flume, towing tank, square tank) for the model test related to the ocean engineering. In this paper, the performance of wave absorbing system with new concept is estimated throughout the experiments. Herein, the wave absorbing system is designed by punching plate with a given porosity which is installed horizontally and submerged near the water surface. As the incident wave generated by a wave maker advances above a punching plate, the strong jet flow is formed near a hole of punching plate. As a result, wave energy is dissipated into heat energy, Systematic model tests were conducted at KRISO to verify the performance of the wave absorber using a punching plate. It was found that the reflection coefficient of wave absorber is deeply dependent on both the porosity and the submerged depth of a punching plate. Inclined installation of a punching plate shows better performance than a horizontal one within a certain inclined angle.

The Impact of Interaction between Cloud and Longwave Radiation on the Asian Monsoon Circulation (구름-장파복사 상호작용이 아시아 몬순에 미치는 영향)

  • Three-dimensional distributions of longwave radiation flux for the April-September 1998 period are generated from radiative transfer calculations using the GEWEX Asian Monsoon Experiment (GAME) reanalysis temperature and humidity profiles and International Satellite Cloud Climatology Project (ISCCP) cloudiness as inputs to understand the effect of cloud radiative forcing in the monsoon season. By subtracting the heating of the clear atmosphere from the cloudy radiative heating, cloud-induced atmospheric radiative heating has been obtained. Emphasis is placed on the impact of horizontal gradients of the cloud-generated radiative heating on the Asian monsoon. Cloud-induced heating exhibits its maximum heating areas within the Indian Ocean and minimum heating over the Tibetan Plateau, which establishes the north-south oriented differential heating gradient. Considering that the differential heating is a ultimate source generating the atmospheric circulation, the cloud-induced heating gradient established between the Indian Ocean and the Plateau can enhance the strength of the north-south Hadley-type monsoon circulation. Cooling at cloud top and warming at cloud bottom, which are the vertical distributions of cloud-induced heating, can exert on the monsoon circulation by altering the atmospheric stability.

Analysis of Transmission Mode and Bandwidth for LF and MF Antenna (중·장파 대역 안테나의 대역폭 및 전송방식 해석)

  • The transmission bandwidth of shorted-monopole antenna in the frequency range of LF and MF was analyzed and the transmission mode considering the permissible data rate dependant on the transmission bandwidth was analyzed in this paper. Based on the required ERP, the output power of transmitter was deduced by considering the antenna efficiency. The analyses are for DGPS and time information transmission system in the frequency range of 283.5kHz and 65kHz respectively. The transmission antenna was modeled as TLM antenna that designed in the limited antenna site. The antenna equivalent circuit and antenna bandwidth were deduced based on the simulation analysis of antenna characteristics. The analyzed antenna bandwidth was compared with the simulated antenna bandwidth. Also the transmission mode for transmitter of LF and MF was proposed by considering the antenna bandwidth.
