The theory for long wave scattering (Proudman, 1914: Longuet-Higgins, 1970) is applied to a tidal-frequency Kelvin wave propagating around a small cylindrical island in a shelf sea of uniform depth. The theory includes the effects of bottom friction on wave propagation. The theoretical analysis of the Kelvin wave around the island. this amplitude change results in a uniform amplitude of the total wave along the circumference of the island in an inviscid fluid, and the dynamic cause of this is explained in terms of Coriolis effects. Bottom friction attenuates the amplitude of the total wave from the frontal side of the island to the leeward side, but the amplitude variation along the coast becomes symmetric to the line connecting both idea. The phase of the scattered wave contributes to more rapid travel of the total wave in the front and leeward side than farther offshore. The effects of bottom friction on the wave phase around the island are negligible.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the variation of resonance that is possible caused by construction of new port in a practical sea area between the existing port and the new one. The research of amplification that of the sea area was accomplished for the variation of resonance. In this study, long period wave that is observed continuously in the practical sea area was analyzed, and then secondary undulation was reproduced by numerical analysis. As a result of numerical analysis, the first mode resonant periods in the existing port is 640sec, and in the new one is 500sec. On the other hand, we know there is long period wave of 500sec from analyzation of field datas. Because that period this period is the resonant period in the new port. There is also the possibility of secondary undulation cause of resonant.

A newly designed floating breakwater made of Polyethylene with considering the introduction of new material for being harmony with environment and stability of the floater is developed for a marine ranching. In this study, the new concept in which incident wave dissipates its energy due to the vortex shedding by passing through the pipes and sheets is selected for wave breaking mechanism. Model experiment in order to te st its capability is performed for the regular and irregular waves in ocean engineering basin. Good capability to break the incident wave within the 6 seconds of period and 1 m of height is shown. Breaking efficiency for long period wave is not so good in regular and irregular wave. The results of this study will contribute to the design and construction of the floating breakwater.
An analytical solution of dynamic responses for seabed in finite and infinite thicknesses including shallow has been developed under flow and partial standing wave with arbitrary reflection ration coexisting field at a constant water depth condition. In the analytical solution, a field was simply transited to a coexisting field of progressive wave and flow when reflection ratio was 0 and to a coexisting field of fully standing wave and flow when reflection ratio was 1. Based on the Biot's consolidation theory, the seabed was assumed as a porous elastic media with the assumptions that pore fluid is compressible and Darcy law governs the flow. The developed analytical solution was compared with the existing results and was verified. Using the analytical solution the deformation, pore pressure, effective and shear stresses were examined under various given values of reflection ratio, flow velocity, incident wave's period and seabed thickness. From this study, it was confirmed that the dynamic response of seabed was quite different depending on consideration of flow, which causes changing period and length of incident and reflection waves. It was also confirmed that dynamic response significantly depends on the magnitude of reflection ratio.

In this study, several new types of floating breakwater are proposed according to the geometry of the vertical barrier and the existence of horizontal plate, and are compared to the steel floating breakwater adopted in Won-Jun fishing port and the performance of wave control is numerically investigated by using Green function method. From the numerical results, model attached the horizontal barrier under the vertical barrier is more efficient for reflection and transmission coefficient than the steel floating breakwater in Won-Jun fishing port. It is confirmed that the transmitted waves can be controlled efficiently by optimizing the length and distance of a vertical and horizontal barriers.

The predictability of winter storm waves using KMA's operational wind forecasts has been studied to predict wind waves and swells in the East coast of Korea using SWAN. The nested model were employed along the East coast of Korea to simulate the wave transformation in the coastal area and wave dissipation term of whitecapping is optimized to improve swell prediction accuracy. In this study, KMA's operational meteorological models (RDAPS and LDAPS) are used as input wind fields. In order to evaluate model accuracy, we also simulate wind waves and swells using ECMWF reanalysis and KIOST WRF wind and they are compared with the KMA's operational wave model and the wave measurement data on the offshore and onshore stations. As a result, it has the lowest RMSE and the highest correlation coefficient in the onshore when the input wind fields are KMA's operational meteorological forecasts. In the offshore, all of the simulate results shows good agreements with similar error statistics. It means that it is very feasible to use SWAN model with the modified whitecapping factor and KMA's operational meteorological forecasts for predicting the wind waves and swells in the East coast of Korea.

A Galerkin finite element model for the analysis of harbor oscillation has been developed based on the extended mild-slope equation. Infinite elements are used to accomodate the radiation condition at infinity and joint elements to treat the matching conditions at the harbor entrance which include the energy loss due to flow separation. The numerical tests for rectangular harbors with fully or partially open entrances show that the energy loss at the harbor entrance considerably reduces the the amplification ratios at the innermost parts of the harbors and that the amplification ratios decrease considerably with increasing incident wave heights and jet lengths at the harbor entrance. Application of the model to the Gamcheon harbor show that when the incident wave amplitude is small the amplification ratios rather increase when the entrance energy loss is included than when ignored because of the shift of the resonance periods. Even though the entrance energy loss was insignificant for the measured long-period incident waves, it would be of great importance if the incident waves were large as in the attack of tsunamis. The resonance period of the Helmholtz mode at the Gamcheon Harbor was calculated to be 31 minutes, which agrees well with the measured one between 27 and 33.3 minutes. The measured resonance periods between 9.4 and 12.1 minutes and 5.2 and 6.2 minutes were also calculated by the numerical model as 10.4 minutes and 6.6 or 5.6 minutes, indicating good performance of the model. On the other hand, it was shown that a variety of oscillation modes exists in the Gamcheon Harbor and lateral resonances of considerable amplification ratios also exist at the periods of 3.6 and 1.6 minutes as in the Young-II Bay.

In this study, to reduce the motion of the vessels resulting from resonance and secondary undulation by long-period waves, numerical review on the control performance of resonator was carried out by attaching the resonator to the established harbor of real waters. In the numerical analysis, CGWAVE MODULE of commercial software SMS(Surface water Modeling System), a finite element model based on 2-dimensional elliptical mild slope equation was applied, and through comparative analysis of the existing experiments and analysis results on the rectangular model ports, the validity of the friction coefficients in which validity and effectiveness of SMS on the secondary undulation analysis is applied was verified. Based on this, the control performance of resonator was confirmed through comparative review of the secondary undulation according to whether or not to attach the resonator to rectangular harbor. In addition, to reduce long-period motion of the moored vessels and the secondary undulation which may occur in Pohang new port, the method to move the resonant period which causes abnormal motion of the vessels to long-term one was discussed through application of the resonators with various sizes, thereby identifying the availability.
In order to analyze the dynamic motions of fish cage systems made of a frame and a netting under the conditions of waves and current, the hydraulic model experiment at towing tank and the numerical computation using boundary integral element method based on linear potential theory were carried out on a square and a circular type of fish cage, The computed and measured results for the dynamic motions of model fish cage systems showed that the heave and pitch motions were almost unaffected by the inclusion of nets, while the surge motions were very reduced by drag force acting on them. In addition, irregular wave-induced motions of fish cages included non-negligible 2nd order harmonic components at high frequency nearly twice the wave frequency. The reason why these motions were considered was due to resonance or structural components of frames being overflown and out of water during a wave cycle. It was found that circular type was more desirable structure in the open sea than square one only in the respect of dynamic motions due to waves and current. Further verifications were needed considering hydrodynamic forces, fatigue life, and structure analysis based on long term stochastic waves including frequency and time domain for the purpose of analyzing and designing fish cage systems.

The technology development for ocean resources can be represented by the increase of water depth. TLP, Tension Leg Platform, is one of the most feasible systems for deep sea development. TLPs show a complex dynamic behavior resulting from the dynamic interactions among platform, tether system and riser system due to their hydrodynamic and structural dynamic characteristics in waves. This paper aims at the theoretical and experimental analysis on motion response of TLP in waves. It is composed of two parts as follows ;(1) wave and wave loadings (2) TLP motion.
