  • There still is a limitation in the usage of 3D clothes model in the production line due to the lack of compatibility between 3D modeling software, and its accurate 2D pattern making software, especially for free formed dress with tight fitted zone and draped part. In this study, obstacles in the 3D direct dress design process was overcome by solving the compatibility among each step of 3D virtual design process as well as adopting 3D-2D direct pattern development program called 2C-AN. Efficacy of making 2D pattern from 3D dress design using 2C-AN program developed by the authors was examined during the course of actual dress making process. Accurate ease over the fitted dress part was examined by 3D scanning technology, and the actual appearance of the draped part was compared with the simulation image of dress model. It was confirmed that the entire 3D design process and direct 2D pattern development proposed in this study was accurate enough to use in the 3D design process.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine visually impaired people's clothing behavior, using a qualitative approach. The results are intended to be used as baseline data to make an instrument that can measure the factors that have an effect on visually impaired people's clothing needs from the perspective of environmental and social relationship contexts. This study was made through in-depth interviews with people with grade-1 visual impairment, and the results were as follows: First, when purchasing clothing, they were accompanied by trusted people, and chose trusted brands and trusted products. They spent as little time as possible, did not try on many clothes, and they preferred colors, designs, and purchase methods that carried as low a risk as possible. Second, they wanted basic product information and simple procedures when purchasing and using clothing products. Third, they were able to manage their own clothes themselves. However, there was insufficient laundry information available. Fourth, the main reason why visually impaired people took care of their appearance was that they wanted to look neat and clean to be respected by others. Based on the study results, it is necessary to provide information on clothing to improve quality of life and welfare and thus ensure visually impaired people's independence.

  • Most wearable system for mobile healthcare applications consists of three parts. The first part is the sensing elements based on bio-signal, the second is the circuit module for control, data acquisition and wireless communication and control and the third is garment with a built-in electrodes and circuits. The existing healthcare garment systems have to find a solution to signal-wire and uncomfortable and inappropriate electrode to long-term attachment. Even if the wireless communication is used for healthcare garment system, the interface between sensors and circuits have to use wires. To solve these problems, this paper use electrode using PEDOT coated PVDF nanoweb for ECG signal and PVDF film sensor for respiratory signal. And, we constructed garment network using digital yarn of 10um, and transmitted ECG and respiratory signal to mobile phone through the integrated circuit with bluetooth called station To evaluate feasibility of the proposed mobile healthcare garment system, we experimented with transmission and measurement of ECG and respiratory signal using nanoweb electrode and digital yarn. We got a successful result without noise and attenuation.

  • This study investigated the degree of inconvenience in existing ready-made clothes and clothing preferences through a survey of 197 wheelchair-bound males in order to provide preliminary data for the development of a suit that considers the physical characteristics and requirements of the disabled in wheelchairs for improved quality of living and positive interpersonal relations. Among the survey respondents, the 30s to 40s age group was the largest at 71.6%. The most common type of disability was myelopathy at 72.6%. Also 59.9% of respondents had a job and ongoing external and social activities. As for the duration of wheelchair use, 10-20 years was the longest at 40.6%. It was found from the survey that respondents felt inconvenienced with existing clothes and changing pants was most inconvenient. Most experienced having their clothes altered due to the difficulty in finding well-fitting ones; consequently, the length of pants was the most altered item because pants are based on the size of a standing man and there exists a discrepancy in length due to the atrophy of the legs of the disabled. They preferred one style in general for clothing preferences as well as common design and details as well. However, they preferred a style with a short front and long back due to a discomfort in jacket length. A short length was the most complained about pants item.

  • The objectives of this study are to investigate the measurements of clothing for the handicapped compared to that of the normal, and to present the basic data to make clothing for the handicapped who has specific needs. Questionnaires were administered to 927 Cerebral Palsies on height, weight, chest circumference, sitting height, and to 70 handicapped people using a supporting parasite on 18 measurement items. The results show that height, weight , and sitting height of the handicapped are smaller than those of the normal of equal age except for chest circumference. And, the values of the items for the lower half are smaller than the normal of equal age and those for the upper half, especially the items for the shoulder and arm, are greater. Compared to the values of the normal in the three standad size charts, the size charts using height and chest circumference are unsuitable to the handicapped, and the size chart using hip circumference is approximately suitable.

  • This research is aimed to develop the functional clothing designs for disabled women in the manner of investigating design preferences among them by means of questionnaire and interview with 150 disabled women as respondents and interviewees. The findings of this research are summarized as follows: 1. Regarding satisfaction with ready-made clothes, the respondents answered 'very satisfied' (1.6%), 'usually satisfied' (14.1%), 'moderate' (20.3%) and 'unsatisfied' (53.1%), suggesting that they had been generally unsatisfied with ready-made clothes. 2. There were more disabled women preferring to ready-made clothes with one-grade bigger (loose.) size than the actual one (53.1%) instead of completely fitted size (43.8%) when they purchased such clothes. This result indicates that they prefer to ready-made clothes with bigger size than the actual one because most of such clothes are made up of non-elastic materials which may be unfavorable for wearer's activities. 3. It was found that primarily worn upper garment among them was T-shirt (59.4%). The reason may be that T-shirt is favorable for using prosthesis and orthotics such as wheelchair, walking stick and crutches thanks to its remarkably high activity as well as simple to maintain, compared with other kinds of upper garments. 4. Regarding preferences to functional clothing designs, the primarily worn lower garment among them was trousers (85.9%); the reason was easiness to move. The main reasons of avoiding to wear a skirt included 'difficult to move' (40.6%) and 'exposed disabled region' (30.3%). Accordingly, functional clothing for disabled women should be developed in consideration for their individual characteristics of disability associated with the disabled region such as wheelchair user, crutch user or brace user, In addition, the designs should be made so that they are not different from those for non-disabled people.

  • The purpose of my study is to provide some information on clothing for the handicapped with special needs. So I have designed clothes for the handicapped to provide some solutions for their clothing problems. These clothing designs for crutch and wheelchair users were based on solutions proposed by many researchers. The number of handicapped has been increasing gradually for years, especially the physically handicapped. Although they make use of many instruments for ease of movements and other physical conditions, most of the handicapped generally use crutches and wheelchairs. So I designed clothing for the crutch and wheelchair users. In order to ease problems in dressing and undressing, when using the crutch and wheelchair, various physical attributes of clothing should be considered: (1) Selection of fabric, (2) construction and location of the opening, (3) type and location of fastenings, and (4) design of garments for comfort and ease of movement. Clothing should also be able to satisfy psychological needs related to attractive appearance. My designs have proposed seven items of clothing. These include a cape-coat, over-blouse, one-piece dress and an pants for the crutch users. Also, a shirts, pants, and wheelchair wrap for wheelchair users will be displayed.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationships between personality traits and clothing behavior of the normal and disabled females, and to find out the difference in clothing behavior of the two groups. Questionaires for clothing behavior were chosen from the items which had been used in previous studies, and the items were selected on the basis of Cronbach's Alpha Reliability Coefficient. Clothing behavior was composed of four variables: aesthetics; comfort; modesty; and satisfaction. For measurement of 3 personality traits (emotional stability, sociability, and superiority), a portion of 'Personality Inventory' b) Sangro Lee, Changjin Byeon, and Wuigyo Jin was used. Samples were 286 females in Seoul, of whom 110 were normal high school girls, 86 were norma1 college women, 41 were disabled high school girls, and 49 were disabled college women. The data were analyzed using F-test, F-test, and correlation coefficient. The results of the study were the followings: 1. There were meaningful relationships between personality traits and clothing behavior 1) Stability had negative relations to aesthetics and modesty and positive relation to satisfaction. In the case of the normal, stability had no relation to comfort, but in the case of the disabled, it had positive relation to comfort. 2) The sociability had positive relations to aesthetics and satisfaction. 3) The superiority had negative relation to modesty, it had positive relation to satisfaction. The superiority of the normal had negative relation to comfort, whereas the superiority of the disabled had positive relation to comfort. 2. There was a difference in the clothing aesthetics between the normal and the disabled. 3. In case of the normal, college women regarded comfort less important than high school girls. In case of the disabled, college women regarded comfort more important than high school girls. 4. In upper class, there was no difference on the clothing comfort between the normal and the disabled. But there was difference on comfort between the normal and the disabled in low class.
