Objectives : This study examined effects of kyeong points (經穴)' acupuncture of three hand yang collaterals (手三陽經) on the facial thermography in health subjects, because the kyeong point in Yang collaterals belongs to the characteristic of the five elements (五行)meaning fire (火). Methods : The volunteers who participating in this study rested for 20-30 min. atroom temperature (23-$25^{\circ}C$) before the examination and were informed to avoid smoking, drinking and use of any drugsfor the previous day. The thermography of the face was taken using Infra-Red Imaging System (IR 2000, MEDI-CORE Co., Korea) at time intervals of 15 minutes : at 15 min before, just before and after, 15 min after, 30 min after and 45 min after acupuncture stimulation. Acupuncture was applied to the left kyeong points (經穴)' of three hand yang collaterals (手三陽經) for 30 minutes. Results : The results showed that kyeong points (經穴)' acupuncture of three hand yang collaterals (手三陽經) decreased the temperature of all the areas of the facial surface comparing to those of the control group. Also, it was observed that the quantities of thermal changes following acupuncture of ST36 increased in the all ROIs (regions of interest) compared to those of the control group. Conclusions : Observing the thermography classified by ROI, it was clear that acupuncture of kyeong points (經穴) of three hand yang collaterals (手三陽經) could modulate thermogram of the facial area however, it is necessary to undertake more investigation supporting these results.

Objective : I tried to turn out the fact that acupuncture treatment was originated from the sentences in "Yihapjinsaron of Somun(素問 離合眞邪論)". Method : I analyze the sentences in "Yihapjinsaron of Somun(素問 離合眞邪論)" by comparing the ponies on it and acupuncture books, Yi Ceon(李梴)'s "Medical beginner's book(醫學入門)". Conclusion : Making this research, I discovered Du Taesa(竇太師) primarily called it '14 finger strengthing-eliminating treatment methods(手指補瀉法)' in his book, "Acupuncture Guidance(鍼灸指南)" and he made full use of it in acupuncture clinic. Seo Bong(徐鳳) & Go Mu(高武) cited the 14 methods in their works, "Acupuncture Completement(鍼灸大全)" & "Acupuncture Essence(鍼灸節要聚英)", but they did not state their own views that this 14 methods ware derived from "Somun(素問)". Conclusion : I knew great acupuncture specialists and Yi Ceon(李梴) finally regarded the sentences in "Somun(素問)" as basic & complementary acupuncture techniques of "Acupuncture Guidance(鍼灸指南)" in their works. They hoped to let many acupuncture clinicians use the finger strengthing-eliminating treatment methods more often.

목적 : 기경팔맥의 임상활용을 위하여 기경팔맥의 개요와 기경팔맥을 이용한 침 치료법의 장점과 기존의 침 치료와의 차이점을 알아보고자 하였다. 방법 : 기경팔맥의 기원과 학문적 이론의 체계를 알아보기 위하여 한국학술정보(주)를 통해 검색한 국내 논문 9편을 참고하고, 기경팔맥을 이용한 치료법에 관한 국내외 서적 2편을 수집하였다. 또한 MedLine에서 기경팔맥을 이용한 치험례와 임상연구에 대해 영어로 작성된 논문 2편을 소개하였다. 결론 : 기경팔맥을 이용하면 정경 치료와 달리, 통증 등의 실체가 있는 질환에 대해 즉각적인 효과를 보이는 치료를 소수의 혈자리 자침으로써 간편하게 행할 수 있다. 또한 병증과 경락 유주 사이의 공간적 불일치가 있거나, 복잡한 정황으로 인해 사진(四診)을 통한 변증이 어려운 경우에 팔맥교회혈 또는 영구팔법 등의 기경팔맥을 이용한 치료를 사용할 수 있다.

Objectives : The purpose of this study was to report the case prognosis and evaluate treatment and prevention of pneumothorax after acupuncture treatment. Methods : A 32-year-old slender male complained of pain in the interscapular area. As a result, acupuncture needling and manual technique were performed to trigger the points of trapezius and rhomboid muscles. After this, chest pain and dyspnea occurred. Pneumothorax was confirmed by chest radiography and symptom progression was observed for 14 days while high pressure oxygen was administered. Results : The chest pain disappeared after 4 days of pneumothorax, and most of the related symptoms disappeared after 14 days. Conclusion : For acupuncture treatment to the interscapular area, the depth and manual technique should be carefully performed.

One male Arabian horse, 5-year-old, reared in Gort, Co Galway, Ireland was diagnosed as conjunctivitis. Acupuncture and aquapuncture with dexamethasone were done at BL01, BL02 and ST01, twice a week, and oculo-acupuncture was done into Shangjiao area using with oculo-acupuncture needle for human use. At session 3, there were no lacrimation, ocular discharge and hyperemia in the eye. The present patient was a case with equine conjunctivitis which showed favorable therapeutic response by acupuncture treatment.

Objective : The purpose of this study is assistant to medical treatment for patient who suffers from headache, by immediate effects of GB43, LI1. Methods : The degree of pain was measured by visual analogue scale(VAS) after GB43, LI1 needling. Results : 15 cases of immediate effects of GB43, LI1 for headache have some common points. 1. The pain of headache was induced by internal cause. 2. The pain of headache was in chronic process. 3. The patients has chronic functional dyspepsia and psychological factors. Conclusion : We can expect immediate effects by GB43, LI1 needling for headache, which have some common points.

Objectives : This study was designed to report the effect of acupuncture at GV 20(Baihui) evaluated by the second derivative of photoplethysmogram waveform(SDPTG) under stress. Methods : 15 healthy volunteers participated in this study. 1. After 5 minutes rest, mental stress was provided for 5 minutes. And then subjects rested for 15 minutes. SDPTG was recorded before and after mental stress and after 15 minutes restness. 2. After 5 minutes rest, mental stress was provided for 5 minutes. And acupuncture at GV 20 remained for 15 minutes. SDPTG was recorded before and after mental stress and after 15 minutes acupuncture. Results : 1. Mental Stress didn't make significant change at SDPTG. 2. In a comparison of pre-acupuncture and post-acupuncture at the GV 20, b/a ratio(P<0.05) and Sano aging index(P<0.05) was decreased significantly. Conclusions : We concluded that acupuncture at the GV 20 may be effective method to recover vascular function.

In this study, a group of 25 patients between the ages of $22{\sim}55$ received acupuncture treatments for tennis elbow. The variance has some high value. 1. The distribution of an age group in 22 to 55 and the average age of men is $40.9{\pm}9.3$ and the average age of women is $39.5{\pm}3.6$. Total average age is $40.4{\pm}8.4$. 2. Before the acupuncture treatments the average pain degree for the group is $4.72{\pm}0.6$ and after treatments, it is $2.36{\pm}1.6$. Statistically, the variance has some high value. 3. There were statistically significant difference in the pain degree before and after the acupuncture treatment according to the age. By these results, acupuncture treatments will be useful to the first-line treatment for tennis elbow.

Objectives : To investigate the effects of acupuncture at Gansoo (B-18) and Chungwan (CV-12) on lipid metabolism in rats fed peroxidized lipid diet. Methods : Effects of acupuncture at Gansoo and Chungwan on plasma and liver lipid composition and antioxidative capacity were investigated in rats fed peroxidized lipids. Results : Although the level of plasma total cholesterol and triglyceride showed a tendency to decrease in the acupuncture group, the plasma HDL-cholesterol concentration showed no significant difference. The level of liver total cholesterol and triglyceride showed no significant difference in all treatment groups. Thiobarbituric acid( TBARS ) values in plasma and liver showed a tendency to decrease in the acupuncture groups. The plasma GOT and GPT activities showed low values in the acupuncture groups. The liver glutathione peroxidase, superoxide dismutase and catalase activity showed high values in the acupuncture groups. Conclusions : The results suggest that acupuncture at Gansoo (B-18) and Chungwan (CV-12) may have an influence on lipid metabolism via enhancing antioxidative capacity.

Objectives : This study is to report one case of the diabetic ophthalmoplegia by acupuncture at Jok-Gwoleum-Gan-Gyeong. Methods : The patient was treated with acupuncture and herbal medicine for about 5 weeks. We evaluated the results of the treatment by observing the patient's symptoms. Results : After acupuncture the patient's symptoms such as strabismus, headache, ptosis, Rt eye pain and discomfort and both shoulder pain were considerably reduced. Conclusions : These results support that acupuncture at Jok-Gwoleum-Gan-Gyeong can have a meaningful effect in improving symptoms of diabetic ophthalmoplegia.
