Application of PIV technique to spray behavior characteristics study in evaporative field (증발 분무 거동특성 연구에 있어서 PIV 기법의 적용)

  • 디젤기관의 경우는 종래부터 직분식이 주류를 이루었고, 근래에는 분사압력의 고압화가 진행중이다. 분사압력의 고압화에 의해 연소효율의 향상 및 배출가스중의 입자상물질(PM:Particulate Matter)의 저감을 유도하고 있으나, 연소가스의 고온화로 인해 질소산화물(NOx:Nitrogen Oxides)은 증가한다. 따라서, 분사기간의 지연(Retard)이나 파일럿분사(Pilot injection)등의 혼합기제어에 의해 질소산화물의 저감을 꾀하고 있다. 이와 같이 디젤기관에 있어서도 혼합기 형성의 최적화에 의한 연소제어를 시도하는 수법이 중시되고 있고, 이를 위해서는 디젤분무 구조에 기초한 혼합기의 형성기구에 대한 규명이 매우 중요하다. 그러므로 본 연구에서는 보다 고도의 혼합기형성 제어를 위한 기초연구로서 고온 고압장에서의 증발디젤자유분무구조를 해석하였으며, 계측영역은 연료와 주위기체와의 혼합이 활발히 진행되는 분무의 하류영역으로 설정하고, 입자화상속도측정법(particle Image Velocimetry:PIV)을 이용한 분무의 유동해석을 기초로 증발 디젤분무의 구조 해석을 행하였다. 실험조건으로서 분사압력을 72MPa, 112MPa로 각각 변화시켰다.

  • The effects of change in injection pressure on spray structure in high temperature and pressure field have been investigated. The analysis of liquid and vapor phases of injected fuel is important for emissions control of diesel engines. Therefore, this work examines the evaporating spray structure using a constant volume vessel. The injection pressure is selected as the experimental parameter, is changed from 72MPa to 112MPa by using a common rail injection system(ECD-U2). The images of liquid and vapor phase in the evaporating free diesel spray are simultaneously taken by exciplex fluorescence method. As a result, it can be confirmed that the distribution of vapor concentration is more uniform in the case of the high injection than in that of the low injection pressure.

  • The characteristics of free spray with ultra injection pressure was analyzed to clear the limit pressure of diesel engine. To obtain final goal, ultra high pressure injection equipment was developed, spray patterns were visualized under various ultra injection pressures. Spray penetration and spray width, volume and entrained air mass were increased with the increase of injection pressure. Sauter mean diameter and injection durstion wert decreased. But over 3,000bar of ultra injection pressure region the rates of increase show almost similar and finally the reversed tendencies at 4,140bar.

A Study on Microscopic Spray Characteristics of Free Spray of Diesel with Ultra High Pressure (극초고압 디젤 자유분무의 미시적 분무특성에 관한 연구)

  • In order to analyze the microscopic spray characteristics of free spray in ultra high pressure region, the droplets size and velocity of free spray injected under atmosphere condition were measured by PDPA. As injection pressure became ultra high pressure, the droplets size was decreased continuously due to the increase of mutual reaction between droplets and air. But the decreasing rate became moderate. The velocity was increased until 250 MPa, and then decreased over that of injection pressure. It was seemed that the droplet size was similar in range of $280\~350\;MPa$, but increased in 414 MPa, even though injection pressure was increased. The microscopic spray characteristics of free spray got worse in 414 MPa.

  • The focus of this work is placed on the analysis of the mixture formation process under the evaporative diesel-free spray conditions. In order to examine homogeneity of mixture within the vapor phase region of the injected spray, image analysis was carried out based on the entropy of statistical thermodynamics. As an experimental parameter, the injection pressure and ambient gas density were selected, and effects of the injection pressure and density variation of ambient gas on the mixture formation process in the evaporative diesel spray were investigated. In the case of application of the thermodynamic entropy analysis to evaporative diesel spray, the value of the dimensionless entropy always increases with increase in time from injection start. Consequently, the dimensionless entropy in the case of the higher injection pressure is higher than that of lower injection pressure during initial injection period.

  • A diesel engine is one of the major prime movers to its high thermal efficiency. But due to the recent attention far the environmental pollution, the emissions of diesel engine became to a important problem. So it is needed to understand the characteristics of diesel spray injected into a combustion chamber. The factor which controls the diesel spray are the injection pressure, the nozzle diameter, the impinging angle and the variation of pressure and temperature. In this paper, experiments were conducted far the variation of the environmental temperature(273k, 373k, 573k), free spray and impinging spray. And the notions of penetration, spray angle, axial distance for free spray, and axial distance, spray thickness from impinging wall fur impinging spray.

Recently, as people pay attention to the environmental pollution, the emission of Diesel engine becomes an important problem. So it is needed to understand the characteristics of diesel fuel spray injected into a combustion chamber to reduce the emission. The factors which control the diesel fuel spray are the injection pressure, the nozzle diameter, the impinging angle and the variation of an ambient pressure and temperature. In this paper, the experiments were conducted in the free spray and the impinging spray with various ambient temperatures(273K, 373K, 573K). And the behaviors of the diesel fuel spray, such as penetration, spray angle and axial distance in the free spray and axial distance and spray thickness in the impinging spray were studied.

  • To analyze the mixture formation process of evaporating diesel spray is important for emissions reduction in actual engines. Then the effects of change in density of ambient gas on spray structure in high temperature and pressure field have been investigated in this study. The ambient gas density was changed from ${\rho}_a=5.0kg/m^3$ to ${\rho}_a=12.3kg/m^3$ with CVC(Constant Volume Chamber). Also, simulation study by modified KIVA-II code was conducted and compared with experimental results. The ambient temperature and injection pressure are kept as 700K and 72MPa, respectively. The images of liquid and vapor phase in the evaporating free spray were simultaneously taken by exciplex fluorescence method. As experimental results, with increasing ambient gas density, the tip penetration of the evaporating free spray decreases due to the increase in the drag force from ambient gas. The spatial structure of a diesel spray can be verified as 2-regions consisted of liquid with momentum decrease and vapor with large-scale vortex. The calculated results obtained by modified KIVA-II code show good agreements with experimental results.

  • Ultra high pressure injection equipment was developed to estimate and analyze the spray characteristics in ultra high pressure injection. Spray patterns were visualized by schlieren method and analyzed in ultra high pressure. Spray tip penetration, spray thickness, spray volume, and entrained air mass increased with the increase of the injection pressure. But over 2,800 bars of the injection pressure region, it was shown that the rate of improvement was not increased remarkably ,and the spray characteristics such as spray penetration, volume, and entrained air mass were reversed and got worse at 4,140 bars.
