Analyses of Physical Properties of Copper-contained Sludge Pelletized for Applied Pyro-metallurgical Process (건식제련용 동 함유 슬러지 펠렛 제조 및 물리적 특성평가)

  • The pelletizing of printed circuit board (PCB) sludge was researched for copper recovery in pyrometallurgical process. This pelletizing was carried out by using self-manufactured compression-type apparatus after pre-treatments (drying, water scrubbing, size classification) were proceeded. The physical properties (compression strength and drop-breakage test) were tested with a change of sludge sizing and the number of compression. In the case of using the undersized sludge of #140, its properties were improved to 0.6 MPa and 9.3 times. Moreover, they increased to 0.82 MPa and 19.0 times by using the #140 ~ 325 sludge. These imply that the packing density increases due to the elimination of large-sized sludge (#140), and also the weight of required binder decreases by the removal of fine-sized sludge (#325).

  • Quick lime made from limestone that are deposited abundantly in Korea has excellent potentials for stabilization of clayey soils. If Korea is able to take advantage of its abundant supply, economical efficiency could be achieved through mass production as well as being able to take advantage of utilization of natural resources. For stabilizing of clayey soil with lime, it is necessary to determine the required quantities of lime firstly and to evaluate the degree of stabilization with lime content. In this test, the quantity of lime required for 2 clayey soils which located in Seunggok and Bugok province respectively, and for 2 clay minerals-kaolinite and montmorillonite-were determined by ASTM C 977-92 and were evaluated for solidification of each samples with changing lime contents by Atterberg limit test and pH test. It was also evaluated for the improvement of each sample with lime content and curing time. The sample which added lime content determined by ASTM C 977-92 increased plastic limit, unconfined compression strength, and decreased pH in increasing trend.

  • It was necessary for us to establish a U-City Integrated platform to handle information and to operate the processes in order to solve various social problems in the modern cities and environment. As time has passed, we have confronted to difficulty in handling massive data with limited storage and computing environment and in not satisfying all the new requirements and on time information from the publics. The bigger the cost of the operation of the platform got, the more doubts to keep and invest more to upgrade it arose. Here, we investigated the limitations of the U-city platforms and analyzed the additional requirements and each function of the platform. In order to meet the requirement, we applied new technologies to deal with massive data and suggested the infrastructure of computing environment. We will be expecting the cost decreasing effects and the benefit increasing effects from the enhancement of U-City platform.

Apply Locally Weight Parameter Elimination for CNN Model Compression (지역적 가중치 파라미터 제거를 적용한 CNN 모델 압축)

  • CNN requires a large amount of computation and memory in the process of extracting the feature of the object. Also, It is trained from the network that the user has configured, and because the structure of the network is fixed, it can not be modified during training and it is also difficult to use it in a mobile device with low computing power. To solve these problems, we apply a pruning method to the pre-trained weight file to reduce computation and memory requirements. This method consists of three steps. First, all the weights of the pre-trained network file are retrieved for each layer. Second, take an absolute value for the weight of each layer and obtain the average. After setting the average to a threshold, remove the weight below the threshold. Finally, the network file applied the pruning method is re-trained. We experimented with LeNet-5 and AlexNet, achieved 31x on LeNet-5 and 12x on AlexNet.

Development of the Testing Method for Impurity Content in Recycled Aggregate for Concrete Structure (구조체 콘크리트용 순화골재의 이물질 함유량 시험방법 개발)

  • A recycled aggregate contains impurities that affect negative effects on physical properties of concrete. Therefore, a test method for examining impurities content in recycled aggregate is necessary before use of recycled aggregate. In this study, the test method by visual examination for separating impurities in recycled fine and coarse aggregates was developed. The results of the test are as follow: 1. The current KS F 2576 was necessary for comprehensive revision including types of tested recycled aggregate, definition of terminology, quantity of sample, and test method. 2. Visual examination is appropriate for larger than impurity panicle size of 1.2mm, and the larger panicle size the shorter time was required. 3. For the impurity content test by visual examination, the easiness and accuracy of the test can be obtained from the condition of sample weight of 30 grams with particle size of 2.5mm to 5mm for recycled fine aggregate and the condition of sample weight of 1 kilogram with panicle size of larger than 5mm for recycled coarse aggregate.

Geotechnical Characterization of Artificial Aggregate made from Recycled Resources of Gwangyang Bay Area as a Drainage Material (광양만권 순환자원으로 제조된 배수재용 인공골재의 지반공학적 특성)

  • Recently, recycling of the industrial by-products has been an important issue of the Yeosu bay, where large industrial complex is located. Major industrial by-products which are produced from Yeosu industrial complex area are phosphogypsum and flyash, which are about 82% and 10% of the 1.6 million tons industrial by-products. Moreover since the Yeosu industrial complex is located at seaside, phosphogypsum has been pointed as cause of serious environmental contaminant from the regional society. Therefore recycling study can't be delayed anymore. In this paper, artificial aggregate was manufactured by non-sintering process from industrial byproducts - e.g., phosphogypsum and slag - as a geotechnical drainage material. To show the feasibility of the artificial aggregate as a geotechnical drainage material, geotechnical experiments including particle size analysis, permeability test, and large scale direct shear test were carried out. Test results show that the permeability of the artificial aggregates range from $6.94{\times}10^{-1}cm/sec$ to $8.86{\times}10^{-1}cm/sec$, which is much larger value than those are required for the drainage material from the construction specification in Korea, and the friction angle of the artificial aggregate is as large as that of sand in water immersion conditions. From the test results, it was concluded that artificial aggregate made from industrial by-products can be used successfully as a geotechnical drainage material.

A Performance Evaluation of Cooperative Proxy Caching for Continuous Media Services in Mobile Environments (이동환경에서 연속미디어 서비스를 위한 협력적인 프록시 캐슁의 성능평가)

  • This paper proposes a user's mobility based cooperative proxy caching policy for effective resource management of continuous media objects in mobile environments. This policy is different from the existing proxy caching policies in terms of how to exploit users' mobility. In other words, existing caching policies work based on the information about objects by referring to users' requests within a specified domain whereas the proposed caching policy runs by utilizing a number of users' requests across several domains. So, the proposed policy is applicable to random requests in mobile environments. Moreover, we also propose a replacement policy based on weights and playback time. To check the efficiency of the proposed caching policy, the proposed replacement policy is run with different size of caching unit: object or segment. The result of performance evaluation tells that segment sizes, ratio of users' mobility and weights are major factors for the efficient operation of the cooperative caching.

  • In realizing ubiquitous computing, techniques of efficiently using the limited resource at client such as mobile devices are required. With a mobile device with limited amount of memory, the techniques of XML stream query processing should be employed to process queries over a large volume of XML data. Recently, several techniques were proposed which fragment XML documents into XML fragments and stream them for query processing at client. During query processing, there could be great difference in resource usage (query processing time and memory usage) depending on how the source XML documents are fragmented. As such, an efficient fragmentation technique is needed. In this paper, we propose an XML fragmentation technique whereby resource efficiency in query processing at client could be enhanced. For this, we first present a cost model of query processing over XML fragment stream. Then, we propose an algorithm for resource-efficient XML fragmentation. Through implementation and experiments, we showed that our fragmentation technique outperformed previous techniques both in processing time and memory usage. The contribution of this paper is to have made the techniques of query processing over XML fragment stream more feasible for practical use.

Prediction Model for Flowering date of Rhododendron mucronulatum Turcz. using a Plant Phenology Model (생물계절모형을 이용한 진달래 개화 예상시기 모형 연구)

  • 본 연구는 대표적인 봄 꽃 식물인 진달래(Rhododendron mucronulatum Turcz.)의 개화시기를 예측하기 위해 지난 9년간(2011년-2019년) 주왕산 지역에 생육하는 진달래의 식물계절자료(파열·개화·개엽·만개·낙엽)와 기상자료(일평균기온·일최고기온·일최저기온)를 토대로 이탈리아 생물기상연구소(IBMET)의 Chill Day 개화 예측모형인 생물계절모형을 실시하였다. 생물계절모형에 의한 예상 발아일간 편차의 제곱을 최소로 하는 조합은 기준온도 5℃, 저온요구량과 가온요구량은 97.94로 나타났다. 즉, 휴면해제일로부터 기준온도 5℃로 Chill Day를 누적시켜 97.94에 도달하는 날짜가 낙엽~내생휴면해제일이자 내생휴면해제일~발아기간까지의 값이며, 내생휴면해제일을 기점으로 개화일까지 102.93이 개화에 필요한 가온량으로 나타났다. 2011년부터 2019년까지 개화예상일을 기상청 회귀모형을 실관측기온에 적용한 결과 오차는 MAE=1.44이며, 생물계절모형을 적용할 경우 오차는 MAE=1.39, 기준온도 5℃일 경우 MAE=4.23, 기준온도 6℃일 경우 MAE=5.47, 기준온도 7℃일 경우 MAE=5.05로 나타나 생물계절에 의한 관측과 기상청의 회귀모형이 가장 유사한 것으로 나타났다. 가장 최근인 2018년과 2019년의 기상청 회귀모형와 생물계절모형의 개화 예측일을 비교한 결과, 2018년의 경우 청송지역의 진달래는 기상청 회귀모형에서 3월 30일 전후로 개화를 예상하였고 생물계절모형은 기준온도 5℃에 적용할 경우 내생휴면일에 가장 근접한 날은 3월 26일이였으며 이를 기준으로 가온량의 합이 102.93에 가깝게 되는 날인 4월 2일을 전후로 개화를 예측하였다. 실제 청송 주왕산의 진달래는 4월 3일에 개화를 시작하여 생물계절모형과 매우 유사함을 확인하였다. 2019년의 경우 청송지역의 진달래는 기상청 회귀모형에서 3월 25일 전후로 개화를 예상하였고 생물계절모형은 기준온도 5℃에 적용할 경우 내생휴면일에 가장 근접한 날은 3월 8일이였으며 이를 기준으로 가온량의 합이 102.93에 가깝게 되는 날인 3월 29일을 전후로 개화를 예측하였다. 실제 청송 주왕산의 진달래는 4월 5일에 개화를 시작하여 오히려 생물계절모형과 더욱 유사함을 확인하였다.
