Dispersants were prepared from petroleum pyrolysis residual oil (PPRO) through sulfonation. Without employing a conventional polynaphthalene sulfonate formaldehyde condensate (PNS) process, the dispersants (NPS) were synthesized by a simpler process only in 2 h. The chemical structure of new dispersant, which has various naphthalene derivative groups, was similar to PNS conformed by UV-visible spectroscopy curves. The new dispersants demonstrated high dispersing ability in inorganic suspension ; cement, $Fe_2O_3$, and $CaCO_3$.
Lead molybdate ($PbMoO_4$) was successfully synthesized using a facile surfactant-assisted hydrothermal process and characterized by XRD, Raman, TEM, PL, BET and DRS. We also investigated the photocatalytic activity of these materials for the decomposition of Rhodamine B under UV-light irradiation. From XRD and Raman results, well-crystallized $PbMoO_4$ crystals were successfully synthesized with the particle size of 52-69 nm. $PbMoO_4$ catalysts prepared in the presence of cetyltrimethyl ammonium bromide (CTAB) enhanced the photocatalytic activity compared to that of using P-25 and pure $PbMoO_4$ catalysts. The maximum photocatalytic activity of $PbMoO_4$ catalyst were observed when preparing it in pH 9 solution. The The PL peak at about 540 nm were observed for all catalysts and the excitonic PL signal increased proportionally with respect to the photocatalytic activity of Rhodamine B.
UV transmission spectra of water-soluble acrylic resin films containing hydroxybenzophenolic, hydroxyphenylbenzotriazolic UV absorber and HALS(hindered amine light stabilizer) were investigated by exposure time(before exposure weathered for 160 and 320hours) in QUV Weather-Ometer. Also the YID(yellowness index difference), LID(lightness index difference) and CD(color difference) of dried water-soluble acrylic resin films and the coated woods of Larix leptolepis were analyzed by addition level of UV absorber(0, 1, 2 and 3%) and HALS(0, 0.5, 1 and 1.5%) and by exposure time in QUV Weather-Ometer. They showed no significant effects on UV transmission spectra of dried water-soluble acrylic resin films in the range of 300 to 400nm irrespective of exposure time. However, UV transmission decreased as increase of exposure time. UV transmission spectra were lower in dried water-soluble acrylic resin films containing hydroxybenzophenolic UV absorber and HALS than in these containing hydroxyphenylbenzotriazolic UV absorber and HALS in the range of 350 to 400nm. The least YID, LID and CD in the coated woods of Larix leptolepis appeared at the addition level of 3%, based on non-volatile content, in hydroxybenzophenolic and hydroxyphenylbenzotriazolic UV absorber, and of 1.5% in HALS to water-soluble acrylic resin.
This study was initiated to investigate the skin whitening activities of methanol extracts from fruiting bodies of I. obliquus. The total polyphenols and flavonoids contents of I. obliquus methanol extracts were 31.85 mg/g and 28.33 mg/g, respectively. The methanol extract of the mushroom treated on B16/F10 melanoma and NIH3T3 cell lines did not show cytotoxic activity. 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl(DPPH) free radical scavenging activity and chelating activity on ferrous ions of I. obliquus methanol extract were lower than those of positive control, tocopherol and BHT. The tyrosinase and L-DOPA inhibitory activities of the extract were lower than those of positive control, kojic acid and ascorbic acid. The tyrosinase and melanin synthesis inhibitory activities of the melanoma cells treated with the extract were comparable with positive control, arbutin. The experimental results suggested that methanol extract of I. obliquus contained inhibitory activities of tyrosinase and melanin synthesis in the B16/F10 melanoma cells by dose dependent manner. High ultra-violet absorption spectra in the range of 280-350 nm showed that I. obliquus extract could protect skin from UV radiation damage. Therefore, fruiting bodies of I. obliquus can be used for developing skin whitening, anti-UV and skin care agents.

Quercetin and its glycoside, rutin, are flavonoids, which are well known as natural antioxidants. In this study, cationic liposomes loaded with flavonoids (quercetin or rutin) were investigated for their effects on cell and skin permeability, and protective effects against UVA. The particle size of the empty cationic liposomes was in the range of 100~130 nm, and the zeta potential was + 33.05 mV. The entrapment efficiency of 0.5R/CL was higher than that of 0.5 Q/CL. The cellular uptake of the cationic liposomes was five-fold higher than that of liposomes. The skin permeability of quercetin and rutin was investigated using Franz diffusion cells. Compared to the initial loading dose, the amount of quercetin or rutin delivered to the skin by cationic liposomes was higher than that delivered by conventional liposomes or phosphate-buffered saline. From the protective effect of cationic liposomes against UVA ($25J/cm^2$), we found that the cell viability in cationic liposomes containing flavonoids was higher than that of using UVA irradiation only. These results indicate that cationic liposomes provide enhanced delivery of flavonoids (quercetin and rutin) into the skin and may be used for antiaging and antioxidant cosmetics.
Free fatty acid and total saponin, which were extracted from the spent media and colony of the strain Phizopus delemar Rh-1, were qualitatively examined by GLC and spectroscopic methods and compared with these of intact ginseng media. The 18, 18, and 14 free fatty acids were respectively identified from the control, spent media and colony. Among them, $iC_{12:0},\;C_{16:2},\;C_{17:0},\;C_{18:3}\; and\;C_{20:0}$ acids were not detectable from the colony. In add ition, $C_{16:2}\;and\;C_{20:0}$ peaks were rot found in the spent media and control, respectively. The isible absorption spectra of free fatty acids and total saponins in the control, spent media and colony were invariable. In contrast, however, the infrared and ultraviolet absorption spectra showed significant spectral variations, particularly in the it finger-print region, demonstrating that the ginseng components were considerably utilized by the strain Rhizopus delemar Rh-1.

This study investigated the thermal degradation and fading behavior of PTT dyed with vat dye and its dyeing ability. The PTT sample was dyed with vat dye using an acid treatment and pad-steam method to improve the dyeing performance. This method made dye particle nanosize and allowed it to penetrate the polymer material easily. The sample dyed using the pad-steam method showed level dyeing and enhanced dyeing affinity, compared to the batch-dyeing method. The degradation behavior of PTT dyed with vat dye after each heat and UV treatment was examined with the change in tensile strength or K/S value on the sample. The tensile strength and K/S values of the sample dyed with vat dye after the heat and UV treatment decreased with increasing temperature and exposure time. Although they showed high degradation under severe conditions, its rate constant was improved compared to the samples dyed with disperse dye. Consequently, acid treatment and the pad-steam method resulted in the introduction of vat dye on PTT. In addition, the PTT dyed with vat dye showed enhanced thermal and UV resistance because of their high molecular weight and chemical structure for stable adsorption behavior.
Photocatalytic degradation of Congo red was performed using various semiconductors as ZnO, CdS, rutile-$TiO_2$ or mixed rutile-$TiO_2$/ZnO. The change of degradation of the dye was investigated by UV-visible spectrophotometric method. The photocatalytic action of CdS was greater than ZnO and rutile-$TiO_2$ in account of low band gap energy of CdS. The rate of photocatalytic degradation reaction increased drastically in according to increasing ratio of ZnO on mixed rutile-$TiO_2$/ZnO. These photocatalytic effect of rutile-$TiO_2$ was suppressed by more stable rutile-$TiO_2$, doping the hydrolysis product with $Zn^{2+}$ prior to calcination onto the rutile-$TiO_2$ surface.

This study was conducted to evaluate the applicability of the extracts from nipa palm, molokhia, and finger root in functional cosmetics as a natural active ingredient. The extracts were obtained through the processes of heating under reflux with ethanol, filtration, concentration, and freeze-drying. UV absorption and blocking effects of the extracts were examined by using the UV-vis spectrophotometer equipped with an integrating sphere. Antioxidant activity and its stability between the extracts were compared using the 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging assay. Also, total polyphenol content in the extracts was determined quantitatively using the Folin-Ciocalteu reagent, with gallic acid as the standard. Antibacterial activity of the extracts was investigated by the disc diffusion test against Staphylococcus aureus (gram-positive) and Escherichia coli (gram-negative). Finally, collagenase inhibitor assay was performed to examine the anti-wrinkle effect of the extracts. From the results of this study, the extract of nipa palm showed the potential for use in cosmetics as an antioxidant and anti-wrinkle agent, and the extract of finger root as a sunscreen and antibacterial agent.
