In addition, the recovery of the research participants, as well as the phenomenon of such changes in thought and life, were examined. The results of this study were as follows. Data analysis yielded four components, eight sub-components, and 16 semantic unit reductions. There were four components of suicide attempts and recovery experiences of elderly women. They were "disconnection and disqualification," "repeated hardships," "road of prosperity in trouble," and "generous tolerance." The essential topics of these components have emerged not as individual but as holistic and contextually connectable topics. Finally, to summarize the results, the essential semantic structure of the suicide attempt and recovery experience of elderly women living alone is a result of a dysfunctional social structure and environment, which has placed pressure on the life of research participants. As an alternative method to overcome, they tried to solve the problem through the extreme practice of suicide attempts, but positive energy to live again due to emotional recovery factors recognized through suicide failures have made it possible to cope with the difficult reality.

  • This study examines the impact of school violence on South Korean students' psychological well-being. The research is designed to analyze how different types of experiences of school violence-victim, perpetrator, victim-perpetrator, and non-involvement-influence students' suicidal impulse and sense of happiness. Empirical data was gained from a national-scale survey conducted by Social Development Research Institute at Yonsei University in 2013, and was analyzed using binary logistic and multiple regression methods. Findings suggest that any types of experiences of school violence had significant effect on suicidal impulse. In particular, the likelihood of victim-perpetrator to experience suicidal impulse was 7.1 times stronger than non-involvement. However, the effect of experiences of school violence on students' sense of happiness was insignificant. While the impact of school violence on sense of happiness among victims and victim-perpetrators was significant, its impact among perpetrators proved insignificant. Rather, stress factor-in particular, stress from peers-had more significant impact on the level of students' happiness. This study contributes to understanding the multiple effect of school violence by examining both negative and positive dimensions of psychological well-being.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the perception of abortion and suicide for 115 paramedic students in 2016. The questionnaire consisted of perception of abortion(8items), the perception of suicide(58items), related 6items of the abortion and related 2 items of the suicide. The collected data were analyzed through t-test, Chi-squared test and ANOVA, using SPSS 21.0. As a result, the total perception score against abortion was $20.57{\pm}4.12$ and the total score of suicide perception was $-14.16{\pm}15.76$. The most answer was that pregnant women were abortion decision makers in both male and female students, and abortions were the highest when they might be unwanted pregnancies. The group who had thought about suicide was higher of perceptions of suicide than the group who did not. The female students who had suicide attempt or suicide experience of close acquaintances showed higher suicide perception score than those who did not. Therefore, A bio-ethics education curriculum should be prepared to establish ethics that respects life for future paramedic students who must make decisions at the boundary between death and life. It is necessary to raise the level of positive suicide perceptions through continuing counseling and education focusing on students who have experienced suicide by family members or acquaintances.
