  • In this study, Helikite, Low Altitude Remote Sensing (LARS) platform, was used to acquire coastal images. In the obtained image, the land and water masses were divided using four types of region clustering algorithms, and then waterline was extracted using edge detection. Quantitative comparisons were not possible due to the lack of in-situ waterline data. But, based on the image of the infrared band where water masses and land are relatively clear, the waterlines extracted by each algorithm were compared. As a result, it was found that each algorithm differed significantly in the part where the distinction between water masses and land was ambiguous. This is considered to be a difference in the process of selecting the threshold value of the digital number that each algorithm uses to distinguish the regions. The extraction of waterlines through various algorithms is expected to be used in conjunction with a Low Altitude Remote Sensing system that can be continuously monitored in the future to explain the rapid changes in coastal shape through several years of long-term data from fixed areas.

  • Using a series of medical tomograms, we can reconstruct internal organs or other objects of interest and generate 3-D images. It is generally accepted that the axial resolution determined by two sequential image slices is lower than the planar resolution in one image slices. Therefore, various methods of interpolation were developed for an accurate display of reconstructed images. In this paper, a new algorithm for 3-D reconstruction of the medical images such as MRI and X-ray CT is suggested. The algorithm is shape-based and utilizes parts of the gray-level information. We extend the conventional shape-based interpolation of the binary images to the gray-scale images using the shortest distance map. Using this new algorithm, We could reduce the execution time for interpolation while keeping similar high quality of the reconstructed images with reduced execution time and is applicable to the various medical tomograms.

  • A study on image searching and management techniques is actively developed by user requirements for multimedia information that are existing as images, audios, texts data from various information processing devices. If we can automatically detect and segment changing scenes from real-time image sequences, we can improve an effectiveness of image searching systems. In this paper, we propose cut detection techniques based on image color distribution and we evaluated its performance on various real-time image sequences. Results of experiments show that the proposed method are robust on various image patterns than color histogram method using statistical informations of images. Also, these methods can be used for cut detection on real-time image sequences.

  • Recently, the value of video as an important data of medical information technology is increasing due to the feature of rich clinical information. On the other hand, video is also required to be de-identified as a medical image, but the existing methods are mainly specialized in the stereotyped data and still images, which makes it difficult to apply the existing methods to the video data. In this paper, we propose an automated system to index candidate elements of personal identification information on a frame basis to solve this problem. The proposed system performs indexing process using text and person detection after preprocessing by scene segmentation and color knowledge based method. The generated index information is provided as metadata according to the purpose of use. In order to verify the effectiveness of the proposed system, the indexing speed was measured using prototype implementation and real surgical video. As a result, the work speed was more than twice as fast as the playing time of the input video, and it was confirmed that the decision making was possible through the case of the production of surgical education contents.

  • In this paper, we propose a classification model by analyzing raw material images recorded using a color CCD camera to automatically classify good and defective agricultural products such as rice, coffee, and green tea, and raw materials. The current classifying agricultural products mainly depends on visual selection by skilled laborers. However, classification ability may drop owing to repeated labor for a long period of time. To resolve the problems of existing human dependant commercial products, we propose a vision based automatic raw material classification combining mean shift clustering and stepwise region merging algorithm. In this paper, the image is divided into N cluster regions by applying the mean-shift clustering algorithm to the foreground map image. Second, the representative regions among the N cluster regions are selected and stepwise region-merging method is applied to integrate similar cluster regions by comparing both color and positional proximity to neighboring regions. The merged raw material objects thereby are expressed in a 2D color distribution of RG, GB, and BR. Third, a threshold is used to detect good and defective products based on color distribution ellipse for merged material objects. From the results of carrying out an experiment with diverse raw material images using the proposed method, less artificial manipulation by the user is required compared to existing clustering and commercial methods, and classification accuracy on raw materials is improved.

  • Recently, interest in the safety of Self-driving has been increasing. Self-driving have been studied and developed by many universities, research centers, car companies, and companies of other industries around the world since the middle 1980s. In this study, we propose the automatic extraction method of the threatening obstacle on the Road for the Self-driving. A threatening obstacle is defined in this study as a comparatively large object at center of the image. First of all, an input image and its decreased resolution images are segmented. Segmented areas are classified as the outer or the inner area. The outer area is adjacent to boundaries of the image and the other is not. Each area is merged with its neighbors when adjacent areas are included by a same area in the decreased resolution image. The Obstacle area and Non Obstacle area are selected from the inner area and outer area respectively. Obstacle areas are the representative areas for the obstacle and are selected by using the information about the area size and location. The Obstacle area and Non Obstacle area consist of the threatening obstacle on the road. Through experiments, we expect that the proposed method will be able to reduce accidents and casualties in Self-driving.

  • In this paper, we propose the pulmonary nodule detection method based on hierarchical 3D block analysis. The proposed system consists of two main part. In the first part, we select the block which is need to analysis. In the second part, we analysis the selected blocks. We extract the shape based features of the object in the selected blocks. Support Vector Machine is applied to the extracted features to classify into nodules and non-nodules.

  • In this paper, we propose a system for automatic moving object detection and tracking in sequence images acquired from a moving camera. The proposed algorithm consists of moving object detection and its tracking. Moving object can be detected by integration of BBME and DD method We segment the detected object using histogram back projection, match it using histogram intersection, extract and track it using XY-projection. Computer simulation results have shown that the proposed algorithm is reliable and can successfully detect and track a moving object on image sequences obtained by a moving camera.

  • Face recognition system has advanctage to automatically recognize a person without causing repulsion at deteciton process. However, the face recognition system has a drawback to show lower perfomance according to illumination variation unlike the other biometric systems using fingerprint and iris. Therefore, this paper proposed a robust face recogntion method against illumination varition by slective fusion technique using both visible and infrared faces based on fuzzy linear disciment analysis(fuzzy-LDA). In the first step, both the visible image and infrared image are divided into four bands using wavelet transform. In the second step, Euclidean distance is calculated at each subband. In the third step, recognition rate is determined at each subband using the Euclidean distance calculated in the second step. And then, weights are determined by considering the recognition rate of each band. Finally, a fusion face recognition is performed and robust recognition results are obtained.

  • Color quantization replaces the color of each pixel with the closest representative color, and thus it makes the resulting image partitioned into uniformly-colored regions. As a consequence, continuous, detailed variations of color over the corresponding regions in the original image are lost through color quantization. In this paper. we present a novel blind scheme for restoring such variations from a color-quantized input image without it priori knowledge of the quantization method. Our scheme identifies which pairs of uniformly-colored regions in the input image should have continuous variations of color in the resulting image. Then, such regions are seamlessly stitched through optimization while preserving the closest representative colors. The user can optionally indicate which regions should be separated or stitched by scribbling constraint brushes across the regions. We demonstrate the effectiveness of our approach through diverse examples, such as photographs, cartoons, and artistic illustrations.
