Design of Helical Self-Piercing Rivet for Joining Aluminum Alloy and High-Strength Steel Sheets (알루미늄 합금과 고장력 강판 접합을 위한 헬리컬 SPR의 설계)

  • A self-piercing rivet (SPR) is a mechanical component for joining dissimilar material sheets such as those of aluminum alloy and steel. Unlike conventional rivets, the SPR directly pierces sheets without the need for drilling them beforehand. However, the regular SPR can undergo buckling when it pierces a high-strength steel sheet, warranting the design of a helical SPR. In this study, the joining and forging processes using the helical SPR were simulated using the commercial FEM code, DEFORM-3D. High-tensile-strength steel sheets of different strengths were joined with aluminum alloy sheets using the designed helical SPR. The simulation results were found to agree with the experimental results, validating the optimal design of a helical SPR that can pierce high-strength steel sheets.

Study on Flexural Strength of Wide Composite Beam for Long Span and Saving Story height (장스팬 및 층고저감형 와이드 복합보의 휨성능에 관한 연구)

  • Recently, the parking in downtown area has caused severe problem due to the dramatic increase of possessing automobile in the country. A parking structure has been on the spotlight to solve the parking problem in downtown area. However, the overall height of parking structure is stipulated less than 8 m. Therefore, in this research, 'wide composite beam', which is possible for reducing story height and having long span, is developed and the flexural capacity of the wide composite beam is evaluated. Based on the result of the flexural test, the flexural strength of wide composite beam increased by 20% as the thickness of steel beam increased by 3 mm ($6mm{\rightarrow}9mm$) The shapes of rebar (whether it is triangle or rectangular shape) in the wide composite beam did not affect its flexural strength. The flexural strength of wide composite beam without rebar decreased by 10% compared to that of wide composite beam with rebar. In addition, the neutral axis moved upward as a load increased, but the neutral axis moved downward, when the load exceeded a certain level of load.

The Study on the Corrosion Property of the Zn/Mg/Zn Multilayer Coatings with Various Mg layer thicknesses (Mg 중간층 두께에 따른 Zn/Mg/Zn 다층 박막의 내식특성에 관한 연구)

  • 우수한 내식성을 가지는 Zn 박막은 자동차, 가전제품, 전자제품 등에 사용되는 철 생산품의 수명 연장을 위하여 널리 사용되어 왔다. 최근 개발된 Zn-Mg 합금 박막은 Zn나 Mg에 비해 우수한 내식성을 나타내는 Zn-Mg 합금상을 형성하기 때문에 순수한 Zn 박막이나 다른 Zn 계 합금 박막에 비해 우수한 내식성을 가진다고 보고된 바 있다. 본 연구에서는 다양한 합금상의 형성을 위해 Mg 중간층 두께를 제어하며 Zn/Mg/Zn 다층 박막들을 합성하였으며 열처리를 통한 합금상의 변화, 그에 따른 박막의 내식성에 관해 연구하였다. Zn/Mg/Zn 다층 박막은 총 $4{\mu}m$의 두께로 Mg 중간층의 두께를 변화하였으며 비대칭 마그네트론 스퍼터링 공정을 이용하여 냉연강판 위에 합성하였다. 합성된 다층 박막은 다양한 Zn-Mg 합금상을 형성하기 위하여 진공로를 이용하여 $200^{\circ}C$에서 1시간 동안 어닐링 열처리를 실시하였다. 열처리 전, 후 Zn/Mg/Zn 다층 박막의 미세조직과 조성은 X선 회절 분석기 (XRD)와 전계방출형 주사전자현미경 (FE-SEM)과 글로우 방전 분광분석기 (GDEOES)를 사용하여 분석하였다. 어닐링 열처리를 통한 Zn-Mg 합금상 형성이 Zn/Mg/Zn 다층 박막의 내식성에 미치는 영향을 평가하기 위하여 동전위 분극시험과 EIS(Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy) 분석 실시하였다. FE-SEM과 GDOES 분석 결과, Zn/Mg/Zn 다층 박막들 각각의 중간층 Mg 두께는 1.5, 2.0, $2.5{\mu}m$ 였으며, 어닐링 열처리 후 중간층의 Mg이 상, 하부의 Zn 층으로 확산되면서 박막을 치밀한 구조로 변화시키는 것으로 확인되었다. XRD 분석 결과, 열처리를 하지 않은 Zn/Mg/Zn 다층 박막들에서는 Mg 상의 피크의 강도 차이만 존재할 뿐 Zn-Mg 합금상은 형성되지 않았다. 그러나 열처리를 후 Zn/Mg/Zn 다층 박막들에서 $MgZn_2$ 합금상이 형성되었으며, 중간층 Mg 두께가 $1.5{\mu}m$ 이하인 박막에서는 Zn 상이, 초과하는 박막에서는 Mg 상이 잔존하는 것을 확인하였다. EIS 분석 결과, 열처리 후 박막의 전하이동저항 값은 증가하며 박막의 어드미턴스 값이 감소하였으며 Bode phase plot을 통해 열처리 후 시정수(time constant)가 높은 주파수 영역에서 형성 되는 것을 확인하였다. 이는 열처리 후 Zn/Mg/Zn 다층 박막이 치밀해지고 내식성이 향상되었음을 나타낸다. 동전위 분극시험 결과에서도 마찬가지로 열처리 한 Zn/Mg/Zn 다층 박막들은 열처리 전 대비 내식성이 향상되는 것을 확인하였다. 열처리를 통한 Zn/Mg/Zn 다층 박막의 내식성의 향상은 우수한 내식성의 합금상의 형성과 박막 미세구조의 치밀화에 기인한다고 판단하였다. 또한 열처리 한 Zn/Mg/Zn 다층 박막들에서는 Zn와 $MgZn_2$ 상들이 공존 할 경우 가장 우수한 내식성을 나타내었으며, 이는 $MgZn_2$와 Zn 사이의 적은 전위 차이로 인해 갈바닉 부식 효과가 감소되었기 때문으로 판단된다.

An Analysis of Economic Evaluation Related to Lane Departure Warning System (주행로이탈예방지원기술 관련 경제성평가 분석)

  • Continuous increase of traffic demand has caused confirmed congestion, fuel consumption, emission, safety, etc. as serious social problems at the present time. The Smart Highway Project has been conducted by the supervision of Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affaire to solve such problems since 2007. The Smart Highway Project includes LDWS (Lane Departure Warning System), a system to prevent broadside collisions and accidents, as a sub-technology of road-vehicle associating technologies. This system warns drivers when their vehicle deviates from the lane where they are traveling at high-speed on the highway. In this paper, the LDWS was evaluated using CBA to analyze the socio-economic consequences. Estimated benefits include reduction of accidents and convenience of drivers. In addition, the economics according to the distribution rate is various when it comes to Lane Departure Warning Technology, the economics of both cases - positive scenario and negative scenario, which was analyzed. As a result, the Benefit-Cost ratio(B/C) of negative scenario showed 0.97 in 2020 and 1.36 in 2030 while B/C ratio of the positive scenario showed 1.04 in 2020 and 1.59 in 2030, which indicated that the higher distribution rate is, the higher the economics generates. Therefore, it is judged that the introduction of Lane Departure Warning Technology will result in high economics.

Experimental Study on the Heating Performances of the Air Heater with Diesel for Passenger Cabin Heating of an Electric Vehicle (전기자동차용 승차공간 난방용 디젤 공기 히터의 실차 성능에 관한 연구)

  • The objective of this study is to experimentally investigate the heating performances of the portable air combustion heater using diesel fuel for auxiliary cabin heating of the battery electric vehicle. In order to evaluate the heating performances of the air combustion heater, the heating capacity was calculated by the temperature at inlet and outlet parts of the considered heater and the inner temperature distribution characteristics of the vehicle were measured during 1600 seconds with an interval of 1 second. The theoretical efficiency of the tested heater was calculated by temperature data of the air of supplying and exhausting to the cabin. As the air passed the heat-sink, the air temperature at the end of heat-sink reached to $101.3^{\circ}C$ and the difference of temperature on heat-sink was 67.8%. The average heating capacity of the air combustion heater showed 2.0 kW. After 1800 seconds, the inner temperature of the vehicle cabin was continuously increased. The temperatures of the top side and the bottom side of the car cabin under consideration were increased upto $42.5^{\circ}C$ and $24.3^{\circ}C$, respectively, and the theoretical efficiency of the tested heater was on average 63.7%.

Detection of Sea-water Intrusion Caused by Tidal Action Using DC Resistivity Monitoring (전기비저항 모니터링을 이용한 해수침투 파악)

  • The 1 $km^2$ area studied is located in Sukchun-ri, Hwasung-koon, the southern part of Kyeonggi-do. Even though this site has been known as a contaminated area caused by seawater intrusions, geophysical and geochemical surveys have never been carried out at the site to determine the extent of the seawater contamination and to investigate whether the seawater intrusion is in progress. The purpose of this study is to determine the extent of seawater contamination and a preferred channel of the seawater intrusion using geophysical methods such as DC resistivity surveys with Schlumberger array and a dipole-dipole array. In order to determine whether the seawater intrusion is in progress in the area, DC resistivity monitoring with Schlumberger array was performed. According to the resistivity map obtained from the inversion of the resistivity data measured with Schlumberger array, the study area is divided into two districts as relatively lowly resistive (less than 30 ohm-m) and highly resistive (more than 30 ohm-m) areas. The distribution of the lowly resistive area is consistent with the distribution of the layer composed of clay minerals, and the resistivity of this layer decreases slowly as approaching to the old seashore. Hydrogeological analysis shows that the clay layer within a distance of about 200 m from the seashore has been already contaminated by sea-water and its electric conductivity is 8 times higher than that of the sand layer covered by the clay layer. According to the results of the 2-dimensional DC resistivity surveys with a dipole-dipole array, there are two preferred channels of the seawater intrusion in the site, and both the channels are in the NW-SE direction from the old seashore. The lowly resistive zone in the southern channel extends to a depth of 80 m. The DC resistivity monitoring with Schlumberger array was carried out along the preferred channel which has the low resistivity Bone (fracture zone) that extended to a depth of 80 m. The time series of apparent resistivity, measured at a distance of 260 m from the old coast line, fluctuates with a period of 12 hours. From these observations, it can be concluded that the seawater intrusion caused by tidal action is still in progress along the fractured zone interpreted by the DC resistivity surveys with a dipole-dipole array.
