  • This study analyzed factors affecting daily travel times at each stage of commuters' life cycle. In this study, travel times were dealt with in the context of trip chain. That is, the travel time was defined as the total amount of time commuters had spent to move for daily activities from leaving to coming back home. A commuter's life cycle was divided into 6 stages on a basis of both householder's age and family type: i.e., the unmarried youth period, the family forming period, the children education period, the children youth period, the children independence period, and the aged period. Variables such as commuting times, home-based trip cycle recurrences, and the number of stops differed for each stage of life cycle, the latter of which represents how many places a commuter dropped by during a trip cycle. Several factors were found to affect commuting times at each stage of life cycle as a result of applying a Cox proportional hazard model. The empirical study was conducted using 2010' household travel survey data collected from Gyeonggi-do.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the differences in maternal perceptions of mothers in regards to the conditions of happiness across the life-cycles of their children. The participants consisted of a total of 961 women who were the mothers of preschool children, school aged children, and adolescents. The mothers completed a questionnaire on the perceptions of the conditions of happiness which consisted of a total of 56 items. The results of this study revealed that mothers in their 20's and 30's, with high levels of education, and on high incomes were more likely to have high expectations regarding most of the conditions of happiness compared to mothers in their 40's and 50's, with lower levels of education, and on low incomes. In addition, the results further revealed that mothers perceived that 'children grow up well and healthy' as being the most important factor in their happiness regardless of the life cycles of their children. In particular, mothers with younger children tended to give greater priority to a close mother-child relationship in their happiness. However, when mothers' demographic variables were controlled, there were no differences in maternal perceptions of the conditions of happiness across the life-cycles of their children. The implications of parent education and the directions of following research were also discussed.

  • Background/Objectives: The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of eating habits and self-efficacy on health promotion behavior and to improve the quality of life in each life cycle. Methods/Statistical analysis: This study is a narrative research study for nursing students at university B in C city. The data were analyzed by SPSSWIN 18.0, t-test, ANOVA and bonferroni post test, Pearson correlation coefficient calculation and multiple regression analysis. Findings: Health promotion behaviors were positively correlated with eating habits and self-efficacy. Multiple regression analysis showed that 53.8% of the parents, caregivers, health status, eating habits, and self - efficacy of the nursing students showed the health promotion behaviors of the nursing students. The higher the self-efficacy(t=6.06, p<.001), the better the health-promoting behaviors(t=3.28, p=.001). Application/mprovements: Development of programs for strengthening health education and self-efficacy is required for proper eating habits and health promotion.

  • The purpose of this study is to understand the meaning and essence of aged life, which Korean elderly experience in real life and restructure them in the context of time and culture. In order to do so an in-depth interview was done with 15 elderlies over the age of 60 living in Hwaseong City, an urban-rural composite area in Gyeonggi Province where diverse elderlies could be found. In result, first, Korean elderly's understanding of aged life had physical, familial, economical, leisure, and social restoration aspects. Second, it was found that the degree of understanding about preparation for aging and preparedness is quite low. Third, as the gap between actual preparation for aging and aged life that elderly dreamed of became wider 'resentment on children', 'denial of reality', 'physical and economical change', and 'experience from prolongation of life-cycle' was found. Based on such results following suggestions could be made. First, the awareness of aged life and preparation for aging should be strengthened and there is a need for diverse educations aiming successful aged life. Second, elderly welfare policy and practical intervention with an integrated perspective based on the realm of life-cycle are demanded. Third, there is a need to strengthen the Aged Income Maintenance System for existing elder generation. Fourth, an intervention about adaptation and coping means of life event is needed. Lastly, there is a need to expand and carry out the aged life planning program for future elder generation.
