  • The aim of this study was to investigate adult individuals' perceptions on the association between chronic diseases and oral health provide basic data required for motivating individuals to follow ideal oral health behaviors and boost their interests in oral disease prevention and treatment. Subjects in their 20s to 50s were selected through the convenience sampling method and eleven questions were set as factors and answered via self-administered questionnaires. To determine statistical significance, analysis of variance was used with the level of significance set at 0.05. The subjects' perception of the association between chronic diseases and oral health were analyzed with respect to their health behaviors. Individuals with relatively higher stress levels demonstrated higher levels of perception levels (p<0.05). Public education regarding the association between chronic diseases and oral health has not been ideally effective in South Korea. Thus, the general public's perceptions of the association between chronic diseases and oral health should be revised. In addition aspects regarding this matter should be enhanced within oral health education programs which often only focus on demonstrating the importance of oral health management so that individuals can get sufficient information on the association between chronic diseases and oral health.

Second, the patients gave a mean of 4.20 to the professional toothbrushing out of possible five points, which showed that they expressed satisfaction with that. Third, as for the relationship between general characteristics and satisfaction level, the women were more satisfied with that ($4.25{\pm}0.33$). By age group, those who were in their 60s and up found that more satisfactory ($4.31{\pm}0.30$). Fourth, as to changes in oral symptoms by gender, the largest number of the men and women considered their gums to become healthier after the professional toothbrushing was applied. • This study was carried out in order to offer basic data available for forming the better oral health habit by closely examining a cause for industrial workers' tooth loss. It analyzed correlation in missing teeth with general characteristics, subjective oral health recognition, habit related to oral health, and oral symptom targeting 6,976 of production workers and office workers who work at 49 industrial places where are located in Gumi city of Gyeongsangbuk-do Province from June 1, 2009 to December 31, thereby having obtained the following conclusions. 1. The higher age group led to the higher ratio of missing teeth. The ratio of missing teeth was lower in a case of having been removed plaque than having not been removed plaque. 2. The ratio of missing teeth was high in a case of having dental caries and periodontal disease. The ratio of missing teeth was high in a case of having smoked in the past or in a case of smoking now. 3. The ratio of missing teeth was high in a case of having less toothbrushing frequency and in a case of not using dental floss or interdental brush. 4. The ratio of missing teeth was high when a tooth is throbbing and when tongue and cheek are throbbing in addition to pain and bleeding in gum. 5. The ratio of missing teeth was high in a case of having unpleasant bad breath. The above results are expected to be likely conducive to offering basic data necessary for developing the oral health educational program for industrial places that can promote and maintain workers' oral health, and for improving oral health program and system available for promoting and maintaining workers' oral health hereafter.

  • The occurrence of toothache signals the malfunction in oral health, which allows the detection of any abnormal condition in the oral cavity at an early stage to prevent the condition from worsening, and thus can act as a preventive measure. This study has looked into the status of oral health management in relation to toothache through the structured survey administered to 235 college students. Based on the survey results, this study aimed at comparing the toothache occurrence prediction between regression analysis and CART model in order to clarify the relationship between the factors of oral health management habits that contribute to toothache occurrence. According to the result, there was a difference between the present health status and the health status of the past year depending on the presence or non-presence of toothache occurrence (p<0.05). There was a difference in the regularity of meal time depending on the presence non-presence of toothache occurrence from the dietary habits of the research subjects (p<0.05). As for the presence or non-presence of toothache occurrence from the oral hygiene habits of the research subject, there was a difference between the occurrence and nonoccurrence of bleeding during brushing or flossing (p<0.05). According to the results of regression analysis, no factors were signifiant in the relationship with the presence or non-presence of toothache occurrence from the status of life habits and oral hygiene habits. 70% of the researched group was randomly selected as the sample for generating an analytical model and the remaining 30% was used as the sample for generating an evaluation model. According to the results of CART model, the occurrence of toothache was higher in the case of irregular meal time and poor current health condition than the case of average or satisfactory health condition. The above results imply that CART model is very useful technique in predicting toothache occurrence compared to regression analysis, and suggests that CART model could be very useful in predicting other oral diseases including toothache.
