  • We sputtered $TiN_x$ (titanium nitride) thin films on silicon substrates using ultra high vacuum RF magnetron sputtering method, and measured spectra of ellipsometry angles ${\Delta}$ and ${\Psi}$ in the photon-energy range of 1.5-5.0 eV using a variable angle spectroscopic ellipsometer. The optical constants, refractive index and extinction coefficient of the $TiN_x$ films were determined via the dispersion parameters extracted from the curve-fitting process based on Drude+Lorentz oscillator dispersion function. The reliability of determined optical constants were verified through the comparison of between simulated reflectance and reflectance spectra measured using a spectrophotometer.

  • In this paper, DOA(direction of arrival) of multiple incident signals received from linear array antenna and circular array antenna, which is based on nonparametric estimation algorithm, and adaptive beam-forming algorithm are studied and analyzed. In nonparametric estimation algorithm, we minimize a regularized objective function for finding a estimate of the signal energy as a function of angle, using nonquadratic norm which leads to supper resolution and noise suppression. And then, DOA is estimated by the signal and noise spatial steering vector, and adaptive beam-forming pattern is improved by weight vectors obtained from the spatial vector. Especially, the discrimination ability of DOA and the adaptive beam-forming ability according to antenna array methods and the number of array elements are compared and considered.

  • In order to evaluate imaging performance of newly developed digital radiography system which requires scanning time as short as 0.7 sec and patient exposure as low as 3 mR, we have investigated its imaging and physical properties such as sensitivity characteristic, scatter fraction, detective quantum efficiency, modulation transfer function, and contrast detail diagram. The results show that the digital radiography system has linear sensitivity to the incident energy, and superior contrast resolving power with less X-ray exposure than conventional film-screen system. These performances are resulted from excellent scatter rejection capability and high detective quantum efficiency of digital radiography system.

  • In this paper, Electromagnetic scattering problem by a resistive strip grating with 2 dielectric layers on a ground plane according as resistivity of resistive strip, relative permittivity and thickness of dielectric layers, and incident angles of a electric wave is analyzed by applying the PMM (Point Matching Method) known as a numerical procedure. The scattered electromagnetic fields are expanded in a series of floquet mode functions. The boundary conditions are applied to obtain the unknown field coefficients and the resistive boundary condition is used for the relationship between the tangential electric field and the electric current density on the strip. According as the relative permittivity and the thickness of layers are increased, the values of the geometrically normalized reflected power have a high value and the values of strip width are moved toward a high value going from left to right. When the resistivity of this paper has a value of zero, the numerical results of the geometrically normalized reflected power show in good agreement with those by the PMM of existing paper. Then, the most energys of the sharp variation point in minimum values of the geometrically normalized reflected power are scattered in direction of the other angles except incident angle.

  • We had designed and made the cylindrical ionization chamber which operated above 5 mR/h. Using commercial electrometer, we investigated the characterictic of charge collection in the ion chamber. The active volume was 190.4㎤ and overall length and diameter in the chamber was 15.5cm, 5.22cm, respectively. The chamber had three electrodes(inner, central, wall electrode). And background current was 8.39${\times}$10$\^$-14/${\pm}$1.5${\times}$10$\^$-15/A to arrange the electrodes which were coaxial in chamber axis. The collection efficiency of chamber for Cs$\^$137/ was 99.7% when the opreating voltage was applied 400V. Comparing with the commertial dosimetry system, the exposure calibration constant was 4.531${\times}$19$\^$7/R/C. By normalizing to CS$\_$137/ the relative energy response of the chamber was 1.30 for Am$\_$24/, 1.05 for C0$\_$60/, respectively. When the irrarition tranversed to the chamber axis, the isotropic effect of the chamber was not considerable.

  • A unique optical waveguide structure is proposed to enhance the optical characteristics of alcohol screening sensors. This structure is then simulated. The structure consists of two elliptical waveguides that have a common focus to one side and has an IR source and detector at each of the other focal points of the ellipses. When the angle between the two elliptical waveguides is increased from 30 degrees to 90 degrees, the maximum level of irradiance is greatly decreased, falling from $2.23{\times}10^6 W/m^2$ to $5.74{\times}10^5W/m^2$. However, the diameter of the incident rays is at a minimum of 1.86mm and the total incident flux is less than 10% lower when compared to the structure at $90^{\circ}$. It can be seen from the simulation results that this structure might enhance the sensitivity of an optical gas sensor which has a large absorption wavelength.

  • In the present paper, Helmholtz resonator, which is widely used as a sound-amplification device, is applied to the development of seawater-exchanging breakwater. The incident waves can induce a large response in the resonator when incident wave frequency is close to one of natural modes of the resonator. Largely amplified potential energy due to the resonance supplies clean seawater into the harbor side throughout the channel. Flow supplied by the resonator circulates the seawater of harbor and helps to improve water quality. Within the framework of linear potential theory, matched asymptotic expansion method is employed to analyze the wave responses in a resonator. The semi-circular shape of the resonator has been chosen as an analytic model for mathematical simplicity. The wave responses of both single and arrays of Helmholtz resonator are investi¬gated. To validate an analytic solution, model test is conducted at 2-dimensional wave tanle Wave hcights in the resonator and velocity at the channel are measured for the state of valve-on and valve-off.

  • Two-dimensional hydraulic model experiments on vertical structures were conducted to investigate wave transmission characteristics under irregular wave condition. The formula about transmission coefficient for the vertical structure was suggested and the results were compared with Goda(1969). Since Goda(1969)'s tests were conducted based on regular waves, the results showed the discrepancy with this study. The Goda's results were relatively higher than the results from the present study. An influence parameter was quantitatively suggested in this study to consider the effect of structural design factors such as the width of structures, the water depth, and the wave length on the wave transmission, while Goda(1969) suggested the mean, upper and lower limits of parameters for the vertical wall(d=h). The transmission coefficients and energy conservation for zero-freeboard conditions were analyzed.

  • In order to find out whether a reflectron can be used as a mass selector in the gas cluster experiment, computer simulation are performed using the SIMION’ program. flight paths of energetic particles in the reflectron does not depend on their mass but energy. In the case of $(CO_2)n $ gas cluster, however, the position of clusters just after passing through the reflectron are spacially distributed with respect to the mass. The reason that the masses spacially distributes is the E/m ratio of clusters is constant, and it is the key reason that a reflectron can be used as a mass selector. Mass resolution does not depend on the cluster size and incident angle of clusters, and it is proportional to the incident position of clusters. This means that mass resolution can be enhanced by resizing the dimension of a reflectron. Therefore, it is concluded that a reflectron can be used as a mass selector with excellent mass resolution in the gas cluster experiment.

  • Ion energy is one of the crucial property in thin film deposition by internal ICP assisted I-PVD. As ion energy is determined by the difference between the plasma potential and the substrate bias potential, ICP excitation frequency was tested with medium frequency of 4 MHz and two types of tuning circuits, alternate and floating LC network with a biasing resistor, were tested. The results showed that plasma potential was less than 5 V in a range of Ar pressures, 5mTorr to 30 mTorr, at 4 MHz RF 600 W and 60 V of maximum RF antenna voltage was maintained either at RF input or output terminal. By proper control of RLC circuit installed after after RF antenna, 50V of RF induced voltage on RF antenna was obtained at 500W input power. The total impedance of RF antenna and plasma was around 10$\Omega$, and minimum RF voltage was obtained with a condition of lowest reactance at most 0.05$\Omega$.
