HEPA Filter Tests Using PLS and Composite Nanospheres (PLS 및 복합 나노구체를 이용한 HEPA 필터 시험)

  • Monodispersed polystyrene latex spheres (PLS) and PS-MPS/silica composite nanospheres were used to test high efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filters. Prior to filter tests, all nanospheres used in this work were characterized by measuring their average particle diameters and coefficients of variation (CV) for assessing them as artificial dusts. The average particle sizes of PLS and composite nanospheres could be well controlled in the range of 100~300 nm well by changing reaction temperature and the amount of a stabilizer during emulsion polymerization. The CV of all nanospheres were also in the range of 3~7%, lower than 15% that is the criterion for monodispersed particle distributions. Furthermore the results of HEPA filter tests show that all nanospheres used were quite proper as artificial dusts for testing air filters.

  • 낙차공(drop structure)은 치수목적의 하천정비를 위한 주요 수공구조물이다. 하지만 국내외적으로 환경을 고려한 하천공법이 요구되면서 고낙차로 인해 발생하는 수중생물의 단절은 기존 낙차공의 큰 문제로 대두되었다. 이에 기존 고낙차를 이용한 낙차공 보다는 완만한 경사를 가지는 낙차공을 설치함으로써 기존 낙차공에 의해 단절되었던 어류의 이동통로로서의 역할과 주변 경관개선을 위해 설치하고 있는 구조물이 필요하였다. 본 연구는 위와 같은 필요성에서 시작되었으며 완경사 낙차공을 경사형 낙차공이라 정의하고 조건에 따른 흐름특성을 수리실험을 통해 분석하였다. 연구내용은 경사형 낙차공의 경사조건과 하상재료의 입경에 따라 발생하는 에너지 소산에 따른 효율과 구조물 하류부 도수현상에 대한 것으로 이를 통해 경사형 낙차공 조건에 따른 흐름특성을 파악하였다. 수리실험은 폭 0.6m, 길이 20.0m 인 가변경사수로에서 수행하였으며, 하상재료는 크기에 따라 2가지 입경(16mm, 25mm)의 재료를 선정하였고, 구조물 경사에 대해 각각 1V:2H, 1V:3H, 1V:4H, 1V:6H의 경사도를 가지는 모형을 제작하여 실험을 수행하였다. 유량조건 및 도수발생위치는 유입부 수위에 따라 단계별로 4가지 수위조건을 만족시키는 유량을 통수하였고, 하류부 수위를 조절하여 도수위치를 조절하여 유입부(1), 낙차공부(5), 사류부(1), 하류부(1)에 대하여 총 8개 지점을 선정하여 수위$(y_n)$ 및 유속(V), 도수길이(Lr), 도수발생거리(Lj) 등을 측정하였다.

Effects of Surface-modification of Carbon Black on the Characteristics of Polymerized Toner (카본블랙의 표면개질이 중합토너의 특성에 미치는 영향)

  • Carbon black was surface-modified to prepare styrene-based suspension polymerized toner with excellent carbon black dispersibility inside toner particles. Carbon black was oxidized first to introduce hydroxyl groups on the surfaces, then esterification between the hydroxyl groups and carboxyl groups of organic acids (oleic acid, palmitic acid, acrylic acid) was followed to obtain organically surface-modified carbon black. The surface-modification of carbon black was confirmed by FTIR. Apparent carbon black dispersibility in the monomer mixture of the binder resin was tested and the particle size of dispersed carbon black was measured by particle size analyzer. Optical micrographs showed that carbon black dispersibility inside toner particles was improved considerably when the carbon black surfacemodified with oleic acid was used. The polymerized toner prepared with the carbon black surface-modified with oleic acid showed ideal particle size and size distribution as a toner.

A Comparison of Emulsion Stability as Affected by Egg Yolk Ratio in Mayonnaise Preparation (마요네즈 제조시에 난황 사용량에 따른 유화 안정성의 비교)

  • Emulsion stability, viscosity, and oil particle size of mayonnaise, prepared at various egg yolk contents, were investigated. With increasing of the egg yolk ratio, emulsion stability became stronger, viscosity became higher, and oil particle size became smaller. Freezing stability of mayonnaise containing below 6.5% egg yolk was reduced significantly. Referring to vibration separation, it was observed that stability of mayonnaise containing 2% and 3.5% egg yolk was very low and containing over 5% egg yolk was stable relatively. Viscosity of mayonnaise, stored at $-10^{\circ}C$, was reduced significantly during first 24hrs. and then levelled off. Oil particle size of mayonnaise, stored at $-10^{\circ}C$, became larger with increasing the storage time and the tendency to change was apparent in the sample containing below 6.5% egg yolk.

Effects of Capillary Force on Salt Cementation Phenomenon (소금의 고결화 현상에서 모세관 효과)

  • Salt cementation, a typical naturally-cemented phenomenon, may occur due to water evaporation under the change of climate. Capillary force may influence the distribution of cement in granular soils. This study addresses the effect of capillary force on salt cementation using five different techniques: cone penetration test, electrical conductivity measurement, photographic imaging technique, nondestructive imaging technique, and process monitoring by elastic wave. Glass beads modeling a particulate media was mixed with salt water and then dried in an oven to create the cementation condition. Experimental results show that salt cementation highly concentrates at the top of the small particle size specimens and at the middle or the bottom of the large particle specimens. The predicted capillary heights are similar to the locations of high salt concentration in the cemented specimens. Five suggested methods show that the behavior of salt-cemented granular media heavily depends on the capillary force.

  • 최근 우리나라 주요하천에 걸쳐 수행된 '4대강 살리기 사업'에서는 하천에서 발생하는 홍수 및 가뭄재해의 방지를 위한 다양한 사업이 추진되었다. 특히 안정적인 용수공급과 재해방지를 위한 수위확보를 목적으로 4대강 16 개 구간에 걸쳐서 일반적 형태의 고정보와 함께 다양한 형상과 운영방식이 적용된 가동보로 이루어진 다목적보가 설치되었다. 본 연구에서는 4대강 유역(한강, 낙동강, 영산강, 금강)에 설치된 16 개 가동보의 형식 중 4곳(강정고령보, 강천보, 합천창녕보, 창녕함안보)에 적용된 라이징 섹터 게이트(rising sector gate)의 수리학적 특성을 분석하고자 가동보의 수리실험 모형을 개수로에 설치하여 보 주변에서의 흐름 및 난류 특성을 분석하고자 하였다. 4대강 유역에 설치된 라이징 섹터 게이트의 설치목적은 일반적인 고정보의 문제점으로 대두되고 있는 보 상류부의 퇴적토를 신속하게 배사(sediment flushing)하는 데 있다. 이를 위해서는 우선 배사 시에 보 하단부에서 최대유속을 발생시키면서 동시에 최적의 상하류 수위조건을 만족시키는 것이 매우 중요하다. 본 연구에서는 개수로에 설치된 가동보의 수문개방도에 따른 유속분포를 측정하였다. 보 주변에서의 보다 정밀한 유속장의 측정을 위해서 비접촉식 유속측정 방법인 PIV 측정방법을 이용하였다. PIV 측정방법은 일정한 입경과 밀도를 가지며 레이저 반사율이 높은 입자를 흐름에 투입하고 laser 발생장치로 laser sheet를 생성하여 레이저가 반사되어 나타나는 입자 각각의 시간변화에 따른 변위를 CCD 카메라로 가시화한 뒤 유속벡터값을 추출할 수 있게 한다. PIV 측정방법으로 유체의 흐름을 파악하고 시간평균된 유속결과를 바탕으로 난류 특성을 분석하였다. 수로전체 구간에 대하여 3차원 수치해석 프로그램인 FLOW-3D 모의결과와 비교하여 분석하였다. 실험을 통한 유속결과와 수치해석결과는 실험을 통한 유속결과와 비교 분석하였으며, 적용성을 검증한 후 다양한 조건에 대한 설계방안 및 유지관리에 활용하고자 한다.

Effect of Rootzone Mixes Amended with Crumb Rubber on the Physical Properties (폐 타이어 고무칩을 혼합한 개량제의 물리성 개선 효과)

  • This research was initiated to enhance the tilth of fine-textured soil for turf growth by incorporation of crumb rubber shredded from used tires. A specific objective was to determine the physical properties of soil mixes amended with different grade and amount of crumb rubber in soils. Two soils and three different grades(3.5, 6.5 and 9.5 mm) of crumb rubber were used. The soils selected were an Arenzville silt loam(coarse-silty, mixed, nonacid, mesic Typic Udifluvents) and a Hosmer silty clay loam(fine-silty, mixed, mesic Typic Fragiudalfs). The amount of crumb rubber mixed in soil ranged from 0 to 0.4 $g{\cdot}g^{-1}$(using 0.05 $g{\cdot}g^{-1}$) increments and 0 as a control. For each treatment, soil cores were constructed following the recommendation by the United States Golf Association Green Section Record. Results indicated that porosity of the mixes decreased as the amount of crumb rubber increased. Regardless of the grade of crumb rubber, mixes with less than 0.15 $g{\cdot}g^{-1}$ of crumb rubber in fine-textured soil could not enhance their macro-porosity and hydraulic conductivity. However, as the amendment increased over 0.15 $g{\cdot}g^{-1}$, the tilth of the mixes had improved significantly macro-porosity, hydraulic conductivity and air permeability, as compared with a control.

Preparation of Copoly(styrene/butyl methacrylate) Beads and Composite Particles containing Carbon Black with Hydrophobic Silica as a Stabilizer in Aqueous Solution (수용액에서의 소수성실리카를 이용한 스티렌/부틸메타크릴레이트 입자 및 카본블랙을 함유한 복합체 입자의 합성)

  • A suspension copolymerization of styrene and butyl methacrylate (BMA) in the aqueous phase was conducted at a selected temperature between 65 and $95^{\circ}C$. Hydrophobic silica was selected as a stabilizer and azobisisobutyronitrile (AIBN) as an initiator. Optimum dispersion of silica in water was obtained at pH 10 while polymerization reaction was run at pH 7. TGA and EDS measurements revealed that 90% of silica functioned as a stabilizer and 10% were incorporated into polymeric particles. Average particle diameter decreased with increasing amounts of stabilizer. Molecular weights displayed an increase when the stabilizer concentration reached 1.67 wt%. An increase in the initiator concentration and/or reaction temperature raised the reaction rate but decreased molecular weights. Particle diameter was nearly independent of the initiator concentration and reaction temperature. An increase in the BMA proportion decreased the glass transition temperature and increased the particle diameter with irregularity in shape. Incorporation of carbon black into the particles composed of styrene and BMA prolonged the reaction time before reaching completion. We have confirmed that a suspension copolymerization of styrene and BMA with hydrophobic silica as a stabilizer can produce spherical composite particles with $1-30{\mu}m$ in diameter containing carbon black.

Characteristics of Dust Explosion in Dioctyl Terephthalic Acid Manufacturing Process (디옥틸테레프탈산 제조공정에서 분진폭발 특성에 관한 연구)

  • The dioctyl terephthalic acid (DOTP) process produces plastic plasticizers by esterification of terephthalic acid with powder in the form of octanol. In this study, the dust explosion characteristics of terephthalic acid directly injected into the manhole in the form of powder in the presence of flammable solvent or vapor in the reactor of this process were investigated. Dust particle size and particle size distribution dust characteristics were investigated, and pyrolysis characteristics of dust were investigated to estimate fire and explosion characteristics and ignition temperature. Also, the minimum ignition energy experiment was performed to evaluate the explosion sensitivity. As a result, the average particle size of terephthalic acid powder was $143.433{\mu}m$. From the thermal analysis carried out under these particle size and particle size distribution conditions, the ignition temperature of the dust was about $253^{\circ}C$. The lower explosive limit (LEL) of the terephthalic acid was determined to be $50g/m^3$. The minimum ignition energy (MIE) for explosion sensitivity is (10 < MIE < 300) mJ, and the estimated minimum ignition energy (Es) based on the ignition probability is 210 mJ. The maximum explosion pressure ($P_{max}$) and the maximum explosion pressure rise rate $({\frac{dP}{dt}})_{max}$ of terephthalic acid dust were 7.1 bar and 511 bar/s, respectively. The dust explosion index (Kst) was 139 mbar/s, corresponding to the dust explosion grade St 1.

Studies on the Evaluation of Kenaf as a Bulking Agent in Livestock Composting (가축 분뇨의 퇴비화 수분 조절제로서 Kenaf의 유용성 평가)

  • Hibiscus cannabinus L is a plant in the Malvaceae family. Kenaf was seeded at June 1st in 2010 and harvested at November 18th and dried and evaluated worth as a bulking agent for livestock composting. Harvested and dried Kenaf was divided into the bast, core and leaf. All materials were grinded by hammer mill and the moisture absorption, moisture evaporation, pH, volume weight and C/N ratio were measured. Kenaf was higher water absorption and evaporation ability than those of sawdust and chaff. The pH values of Kenaf were pH $2.8{\pm}0.01$ - $4.34{\pm}0.02$, which is lower pH value than those of sawdust (pH $5.28{\pm}0.01$) and chaff (pH $6.3{\pm}0.02$). The C/N ratio of Kenaf showed 649 of core, 204 of bast and 70 of leaf, which were lower than sawdust (789.1) but higher than chaff (132). In volume weight test, the materials were divided by particle size of Kenaf, named as group A(${\geq}4cm$), B(${\leq}4cm$, ${\geq}0.25cm$) and C(${\leq}0.25cm$). The volume of weight of group A and B for core, bast and leaf showed similar, but group C showed higher than those of sawdust and chaff. Especially, the volume weight of group C for leaf was 5 times higher than those of sawdust and chaff. This study suggested the possibility of using Kenaf as a bulk agent for composting of livestock manure. This is considered that strengthen the competitiveness of farmers through reducing the cost, prevention of environmental pollution caused by livestock manure and environmentally friendly processing of livestock manure.
