This paper presents dynamic infinite elements for soil-structure interaction analysis. In order to discretize the far field of the unbounded soil media, axisymmetric infinite elements which are capable of propagating multi-waves are proposed. An efficient numerical integration scheme for constructing the element characteristic matrices of the infinite elements in developed based on Gauss-Laguerre quadrature. The efficiency of the infinite elements is demonstrated by comparing the computed impedances of rigid circular footings on an elastic half space and on a layered half spaces with those obtained analytically.

A new estimation model of predicting the sound absorption performance for multiple perforated plate sound absorbing system was developed using transfer matrix method. The proposed method was validated by comparing the calculated absorption coefficients of a single layer perforated plate with the values measured by the two-microphone impedance tube method far various porosity and cavity depth. The developed transfer matrix method was further applied to estimate the multiple layer perforated plates and it is shown that the estimated absorption coefficients generally agree well with the measured values.

The acoustic absorption of multiple layer perforated panel systems is largely reduced at the anti-resonance frequency. In order to improve the acoustic absorption at the anti-resonance frequency, the sound absorbing materials are inserted between perforated panels. By the insertion of absorbing materials, it is found that the multiple layer perforated panel system has better acoustic absorption at the anti-resonance frequency and more broadband frequency. Besides, it is shown that the absorption coefficients from the transfer matrix method agree well with the values measured by the two-microphone impedance tube method for various combinations of perforated panels, airspaces or sound absorbing materials.

In this paper, a spline-type divided-difference interpolation technique is proposed to efficiently evaluate the impedance matrix elements in the MoM analysis of layered medium problems. This method is combined with the fast computational method of the basis-expanded and tested dyadic Green's functions (expressed in the spectral domain integrals) in a recent literature. For the sake of its validity, the proposed method is applied to analyze the characteristics of a microstrip gap discontinuity, a microstrip filter, and an aperture coupled patch antenna. Numerical results obtained by this approach are in good agreement with those of other approaches.

A helmholtz resonator has been widely used for the purpose of suppressing the low frequency noises propagated from various heat and fluid machineries. However, the conventional resonator has demerits that the effective absorption bandwidth is narrow and the absorption performance is not so outstanding in the only limited configurations of neck and cavity as well. In order to overcome these problems, in this paper, a resonator with perforated neck is proposed. The absorption performances of the resonator are measured by two-microphone method and estimated by transfer matrix method. The measured values of normal absorption coefficients agree well with the estimated values. By introducing the perforated plates at the neck of a resonator, it is shown that the absorption performance have been significantly improved.

Electrical impedance tomography is a relatively new imaging modality in which the internal conductivity (or resistivity) distribution of a object is reconstructed based on the injected currents and measured voltages through the electrodes placed on the surface of the object. In this paper, it is assumed that the relationship between the resistivity distribution and the resistance of electrodes is linear. From this linear relation, the weighting matrix can be obtained and modified iterative Landweber method is applied to estimate the internal resistivity distribution. Additionally, to accelerate the convergence rate and improve the spatial resolution of the reconstructed image, optimal step lengths for the iterative Landweber method are computed from the objective function in the least-square sense. The numerical experiments have been performed to illustrate the superior reconstruction performance of the proposed scheme.
Electrical impedance tomography is an imaging technique to reconstruct the internal conductivity distribution based on applied currents and measured voltages in a domain of interest. In this paper, a modified Gauss-Newton method is proposed for conductivity image reconstruction. In the proposed method, the dimension of the inverse term is reduced by replacing the number of elements with the number of measurement data in the conductivity updating equation of the conventional Gauss-Newton method. Therefore, the computation time is greatly reduced as compared to the conventional Gauss-Newton method. Moreover, the regularization parameter is selected by computing the minimum-maximum from the diagonal components of the Jacobian matrix at every iteration. The numerical experiments with several scenarios were carried out to evaluate the reconstruction performance of the proposed method.
In this study, we developed reflection tomography inversion algorithm using Straight Ray Technique (SRT) which can calculate travel time easily and fast for complex geological structure. The inversion process begins by setting the initial velocity model as a constant velocity model that hat only impedance boundaries. The inversion process searches a layer-interface structure model that is able to explain the given data satisfactorily by inverting to minimize data misfit. For getting optimal solution, we used Gauss-Newton method that needed constructing the approximate Hessian matrix. We also applied the Marquart-Levenberg regularization method to this inversion process to prevent solution diverging. The ability of the method to resolve typical target structures was tested in a synthetic salt dome inversion. Using the inverted velocity model, we obtained the migration image close to that of the true velocity model.
Inverse problem in electrical impedance tomography (EIT) is highly ill-posed therefore prior information is used to mitigate the ill-posedness. Regularization methods are often adopted in solving EIT inverse problem to have satisfactory reconstruction performance. In solving the EIT inverse problem, iterative Gauss-Newton method is generally used due to its accuracy and fast convergence. However, its performance is still suboptimal and mainly depends on the selection of regularization parameter. Although, there are few methods available to determine the regularization parameter such as L-curve method they are sometimes not applicable for all cases. Moreover, regularization parameter is a scalar and it is fixed during iteration process. Therefore, in this paper, a novel method is used to determine the regularization parameter to improve reconstruction performance. Conductivity norm is calculated at each iteration step and it used to obtain the regularization parameter which is a diagonal matrix in this case. The proposed method is applied to human thorax imaging and the reconstruction performance is compared with traditional methods. From numerical results, improved performance of proposed method is seen as compared to conventional methods.

Radiated noise analysis from a ship structure is a challenging topic owing to difficulties in the accurate calculation of the fluid-structure interaction as well as owing to a massive degree of freedom of the problem. To reduce the severity of the problem, a new fluid-structure interaction formulation is proposed in this paper. The complex frequency-dependent added mass and damping matrices are calculated using the high-order Burton-Miller boundary integral equation formulation to obtain accurate values over all frequency bands. The calculated fluid-structure interaction effects are added to the structural matrices calculated by commercial finite element software, MSC/NASTRAN. Then, the impedance and underwater radiation noise due to an excitation of structure are calculated. The present formulation is applied to a ship to calculate the underwater radiated noise.
