The present study is concerned with the flow patterns induced by other impellers in a rectangular tank Impellers are FBT(Flat blade turbine), PBT(Pitched blade turbine), Shroud turbine, Rushton Turbine, and Helical ribbon turbine. The solution of flows in moving reference frames requires the use of 'moving' cell zone. The moving zone approaches are MRF(Multiple reference frame), which is a steady-state approximation and Sliding method, which is a unsteady-state approximation. Numerical results using two moving zone approaches are compared with experiments by Ranade & Joshi, which have done extensive LDA measurements of the flow generated by a standard six-bladed Rushton turbine in a cylindrical baffled vessel. In this paper we simulated the flow patterns with above mentioned moving zone approaches and impellers. Turbulence model is RNG k-$\epsilon$ model.

In this study, noise radiated from a high-speed fan-motor unit for a cordless vacuum cleaner is reduced by designing splitter blades on the existing impeller. First of all, in order to investigate the flow field through a fan-motor unit, especially impeller, the unsteady incompressible Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) equations are numerically solved by using computational fluid dynamic technique. With predicted flow field results as input, the Ffowcs Williams-Hawkings (FW-H) integral equation is solved to predict aerodynamic noise radiated from the impeller. The validity of the numerical methods is confirmed by comparing the predicted sound pressure spectrum with the measured one. Further analysis of the predicted flow field shows that the strong vortex is formed between the impeller blades. As the vortex induces the loss of the flow field and acts as an aerodynamic noise source, supplementary splitter blades are designed to the existing impeller to suppress the identified vortex. The length and position of splitter are selected as design factors and the effect of each design factor on aerodynamic noise is numerically analyzed by using the Taguchi method. From this results, the optimum location and length of splitter for minimum radiated noise is determined. The finally selected design shows lower noise than the existing one.

In this study, the flow and noise performances of high-speed fan motor unit for cordless vacuum cleaner is improved by optimizing the impeller which drives the suction air through flow passage of the cordless vacuum cleaner. Firstly, the unsteady incompressible Reynolds averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) equations are solved to investigate the flow through the fan motor unit using the computational fluid dynamics techniques. Based on flow field results, the Ffowcs-Williams and Hawkings (FW-H) integral equation is used to predict flow noise radiated from the impeller. Predicted results are compared to the measured ones, which confirms the validity of the numerical method used. It is found that the strong vortex is formed around the mid-chord region of the main blades where the blade curvature change rapidly. Given that vortex acts as a loss for flow and a noise source for noise, impeller blade is redesigned to suppress the identified vortex. The response surface method using two factors is employed to determine the optimum inlet and outlet sweep angles for maximum flow rate and minimum noise. Further analysis of finally selected design confirms the improved flow and noise performance.
The present study is concerned with the flow patterns induced by various impellers in a rectangular tank. Impellers are FBT (Flat blade turbine), PBT (Pitched blade turbine), Shroud turbine, Rushton turbine, and Helical ribbon turbine types. The solutions of flows in moving reference frames require the use of 'moving' cell zone. The moving zone approaches are based on MRF (Multiple reference frame), which is a steady-state approximation and sliding method, which is an unsteady-state approximation. Numerical results using two moving zone approaches we compared with experiments by Ranade & Joshi, which have done extensive LDA measurements of the flow generated by a standard six-bladed Rushton turbine in a cylindrical baffled vessel. In this paper, we simulated the flow patterns with above-mentioned moving zone approaches and impellers. Turbulence model used is RNG $k-{\epsilon}$ model. Sliding-mesh method is more effective than MRF for simulating the rectangular tank with inlet and outlet. RNG $k-{\epsilon}$ model strongly underestimates the velocity of experimental data and velocity by Chen & Kim's model, but it seems to be correctly predicted in overall distribution.
The demand for the re-painting of steel bridges is increasing, but surface treatment is still centered on human resources for on-site re-painting processes. Worker safety accidents continue to occur because the work is performed in a narrow space. Recently, PS balls with excellent surface treatment have been used for blasting, but the working environment is poor due to the large amount of dust generated. In this study, an effective surface treatment method using impeller blasting equipment was developed. The correlation between steel ball size, impeller rotation speed, and exposure time was studied to optimize the efficiency of the surface treatment.

Pump casing has blockage effects on Impeller flow in a centrifugal pump such that the flow field around volute tongue has quite large change when the impeller rotates. A double suction pump is widely used in industrial world because it has lower NPSH required than a single suction pump. Thus, in this study, the interaction between impeller and volute casing has been investigated by using CFD for a double-suction centrifugal pump. Quasi-steady method and full pump model has been employed for the numerical calculation.
In recent years, the need for more fuel-efficient and lower-emission vehicles has driven the technical development of alternative fuels such as LPG(Liquefied Petroleum Gas) which is able to meet the limits of better emission levels without many modifications to current engine design. LPG has a hish vapor pressure and lower viscosity and surface tension than diesel and gasoline fuels. These different fuel characteristics make it difficult to directly apply the conventional gasoline or diesel fuel pump. In this study, experiments are performed to get performance and efficiency of the fuel pump under different condition of the temperature, rotating speeds, and composition of fuel. The characteristics of fuel pump were affected by cavitation occurred from the variation of temperature and composition.
In recent years, the needs for more fuel-efficient and lower-emission vehicles have driven to use the alternative fuel of LPG(Liquefied Petroleum Gas) which is able to meet the more stringent legislations without many modifications to current engine. LPLi (Liquid Phase LPG Injection) system (the 3rd generation LPG injection system) is the core technology to produce power equivalent to a gasoline engine with less emissions. The LPG fuel pump can supply the compressed LP gas in the liquid phase to engine. The fuel filter is attached in the fuel pump to eliminate the remnants in the liquid phased LP gas and the performance of blowoff flow for a pump can be varied with various filters. In this study, experiments were conducted to investigate the performance and efficiency of the impeller type LPG fuel pump under various filter types of microfiber, double mesh and external filter. And blowoff flow for a LPG fuel pump was measured according to the temperature of the fuel.

A screw propeller is usually accepted as a propulsor of many kinds of ships. However, for high speed vessels, screw propeller has large cavitation area on the blades so propeller efficiency is decreased and erosion can be happened. To avoid this problem, supercavitating propeller and waterjet are generally used for high speed vessels. In this paper, we introduced the self-propulsion test procedure which has been developed for high speed vessels in Hyundai Maritime Research Institute. The model ship used in experiment represents catamaran about 5.3 m in length. To minimize the experimental errors, two impellers were driven by a single motor. Thrust was calculated by converting the measured pressure to flow rates at the nozzle exit. The test procedure is composed of resistance test, self propulsion test and analysis. In order to measure the pressure, pressure tabs were installed around the nozzle exit and connected to the pressure sensor by vinyl tube.
