The purpose of this study was to examine the mechanism through which Senior Center User's services satisfaction impacts quality of life. We were particularly interested in the mediating effect of empowering Senior Center users. bootstraping method based on structural equation modeling were used. The partial and full mediation model were compared and X² difference test was conducted between the two models. The result showed that the mediating effect of empowering senior center user was statistically significant and accounted for the relationship between the senior center user's services satisfaction and quality of life. Empowering senior center user mediated fully the effect of senior center user's services satisfaction on quality of life. Practice and policy implications as well as further research topics were discussed to aid the search for highly effective interventions.

The quickening pace of international migration in the last twenty years brought fundamental demographic and social changes to the Korean society. Increasing number of marriage-based immigrant families imposes new challenges on social work community; however, the social work community has not been equipped with necessary practice models, sets of skills and professionals with cultural competency. This study aims to explore an integrative framework of social work practice with this client group. Research foci include the profile of marriage-based immigrant families in Korea, available social services at the time, challenges and issues they face, the compatibility of the empowerment based social work practice, and micro/mezzo/macro level concerns that arise for the effective service provision. Challenges among marriage-based immigrant families are converged into personal/familial, community related, and larger social-cultural issues. Empowerment is a multi-dimensional social process to help people gain control over their lives; a process that fosters power in people, for use in their lives, their communities and in their society. Empowerment based social work practice can be the most competent framework for working with multi-cultural families considering their multi-faceted acculturation issues while they navigate thru Korean society. Issues of educating and training of culturally competent social workers are discussed.

This study is to show the effect of single mothers' community participation on empowerment and the mediation effect of gender consciousness that mediate the causal relationship between this two variables defining the organization, which single mothers have been participated, as a community based on that there are common goals, emotional bond, and reciprocal action between the members. 439 single mothers, who have been participated in one of 14 organizations in Pusan and Gyeongnam, have been surveyed and the practice elements of emporwerment, gender consciousness, and empowerment have been analyzed from it. The results are first, There was significant differences at the practice elements of empowerment, gender consciousness, and empowerment according to the types of single mothers' community. Mostly it was high among job training type community and low among social welfare institution type community. Second, it has been shown that the determinant factors of empowerment are the degree of community participation and the practical elements of empowerment. Third, The changes in gender consciousness should be proceeded before that the practice of community empowerment, which the changes in gender consciousness represent the full mediation in the relationship between the practical elements and empowerment effect, leads the improvement of single mothers' empowerment.

21세기의 두드러진 특징 중 하나는 조직의 환경변화가 끊임없이 매우 불규칙적으로 일어나고 있으며, 그 변화 속도가 가속화되고 있는 것이다. 이로 인한 극도의 불확실성은 치열한 생존경쟁에 대응하며 지속적 발전을 추구하기 위해 각 조직 구성원의 적절한 활용과 중요성이 크게 대두되게 됐는데 이와 관련된 패러다임이 임파워먼트이다. 특히 일선 현장에서 근무하는 사회복지종사자는 사회복지의 근본 목적 달성을 위해 그들의 업무를 어떻게 수행할 것인가에 대하여 스스로 파악할 필요성이 강하게 대두되며, 자신의 능력을 지속적으로 개발해야 할 필요성이 있다. 이러한 사회복지종사자의 임파워먼트는 결국 직무만족에 큰 영향을 미칠 것이며, 이는 궁극적으로 사회복지의 실천적 과제 달성을 가능하게 될 것이다. 이 연구의 목적은 사회복지종사자가 임파워먼트 할 수 있게 함으로써, 그에 따른 직무만족을 향상시킬 수 있는 이론적 배경을 제시하는 것이다.

The purpose of this study is to understand direct and indirect impact and the paths of community participation and social capital, which affect improvement of single mother's community participation factors, social capital, and empowerment. To accomplish this purpose structural relationships between single mother's community participation factors, social capital and empowerment have been analyzed. For the analysis 420 single mothers, who had participated various types of communities, were surveyed and structural equation modeling had been used and optical theory structure model(χ²=86.851, df=28, GFI=.958, CFI=.944), which explains the structural relationship among the factors, had been chosen. From the result, first, there was differences between empowerment and community participation levels, which is single mothers' community participation factors, of the impact on social capital and empowerment. Empowerment level of community, which was mediated by community participation level and social capital, affected empowerment, in the other hand, community participation level affected empowerment more directly than the impact of social capital. Second, single mothers' community participation factor affected more improvement of empowerment when it mediated by the accumulation of social capital. Third, single mothers' social capital directly affected the most improvement of empowerment. Based on the fact the implications of the study were presented.

The purpose of this study was to introduce Self-Empowerment Program focusing on empowering social workers in individual level and to evaluate effectiveness of the program through practicing it. For the purpose, this study reviewed the concept of self-empowerment, theoretical background and content of the program. It examined effects of the program on mental health social workers' self concepts and clients' evaluation of the social workers, also. Through applying the program and analysing it, some significant differences were found in total positive self, self identity, self satisfaction, self behavior, moral ethical self, personal self, and family self score between intervention group and control group after the program. In evaluation of the social workers by the clients, the score of social workers in intervention group was increased after the program than control group's. These findings suggested that this program be helpful for social workers' self-empowerment and relationship with clients. It is meaningful to prove utility of the program in our social work situation with limited training or growing opportunities for social workers.

This study was designed to explore the participatory experiences in internship program of female victims who had abused by violence. The results were deducted from in-depth interview with 9 female victims. The process of data analysis was carried out in accordance with the procedures set out in the phenomenological Giorgi's method. The results of research showed that experiences of women could be classified in 13 sub-constituents and 3 constituents. The essential theme of the empowerment experiences of female victims could be summarized as "preparing to live as the subject and overcoming painful difficulties". The result of this study can be utilized as a basis for the social work intervention and policy implications for female victims of violence.

Previous studies on empowerment have commonly noted that current practice of empowerment understands empowerment only macroscopically and limitedly without reflecting the true idea of empowerment. In addition, they are emphasizing lack of information on specific techniques for the practice. Thus, the present study purposed to examine independent living movement for the disabled, which have experienced structural and institutional changes and produced actual improvements in policies as their results, and the characteristics of empowerment observed in the development process. According to the results of this study, empowerment consists of a total of five stages, and among them, the stage of conscientization is very important for individual empowerment and the stage of organization for macroscopic empowerment.

In this study, we explored the degree to which foreign workers in Korea are satisfied with their lives. We examined the extent of the respondents'educational mismatch, their experiences of discrimination, and the empowerment influence on their degree of life satisfaction. Based on this, we developed practical implications to improve foreign workers'life satisfaction in the country. The results show that life satisfaction significantly rises as the respondents'educational credentials increasingly match with the criteria for their respective jobs, given that they have not experienced discrimination and their empowerment level is high. Based on these outcomes, we proposed the following important policy measures: mediation and diminishing educational mismatch during job searches, establishing legal and institutional frameworks to prevent discrimination, and placing greater emphasis on efforts to improve foreign workers'empowerment. We expect our findings to provide an important empirical basis for efforts to facilitate foreign workers'integration into Korean society. This study is the first attempt to apply concepts such as foreign workers'empowerment and educational mismatch -as defined by the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development's Programme for the International Assessment of Adult Competencies (OECD PIAAC) -to foreign workers in Korea.
