  • An auto-tuning PID controller which is adequate for temperature control is developed based on relay-control and pole-placement Using the critical frequency which is obtained from relay-control parameters of assumed model are identified. Pole/zero-placement PID controller is designed for the identified model. The desired pole/zeros are determined so that the closed-loop has overshoot free step response. The developed auto-tuning PID controller was successfully applied to the temperature control of RTP.

  • This paper proposes an efficient detection of absolute position of a robot joint using two incremental encoders. We considers a robot joint comprising a motor, a reducer, two encoders, and a motor drive. An incremental(first) encoder provides motor's rotor position or input position of reducer while another incremental(second) encoder does output position of the reducer. A table is made where the relationship between the first and the second encoder counts is recorded. The key point is placed where the table is constructed: when a pulse occurs in the second encoder, there exists a corresponding unique count value of the first encoder. The absolute position is detected using the table by searching the second encoder position corresponding to the first encoder count value when a pulse occurs in the second encoder. The proposed method needs a small rotation, as just one second encoder's pulse angle, for the initial absolute position detection.

  • In this paper, a method of auto-tuning of PID (Proportional-Integral-Derivative) and PIDA (Proportional-Integral-Derivative-Acceleration) controllers is proposed that can be applied to a time-delayed second order model. The proposed identification method is based on step responses, but it can be easily automated rising digital controller unlike the existing graphical identification methods. We provide a ways to yield parameter identifications which is independent to initial values of the plants. The tuning rule is based on the pole-placement strategy and is formulated so that it can be implemented using a digital controller with ease.

  • A speed of a train is controlled by Automatic Train Control system and the continuous transmission system provide the speed related information in the Korean High Speed Line. The primary objective of this paper is to measure the level of continuous signal and to calculate the message of that signal. A measuring equipment is introduced and the equipment provide the base line of the level of current and the correction information of the message.

  • Communications Based Train Control(CBTC) is a continuous, automatic train control system utilizing high-resolution, train location determination independent of track circuits; continuous, high capacity, bi-directional train-to-wayside data communications; and trainborne and wayside processors capable of implementing vital functions. In this paper, we present a basic design of CBTC system based on ERTMS/ETCS specifications. The basic design is composed of system requirements analysis, system functional analysis, system architectural design, sub-system requirements analysis, sub-system functional analysis. Each deliverable has been produced according to a development process based on UML/SysML.
