  • The times of service commencement and service completion had been used for inferring the queueing systems. However, the service commencement times are difficult to measure because of unobservable nature in queueing systems. In this paper, for inferring queueing systems, the service commencement times are replaced for arrival times which can be easily observed. Determining the service commencement time is very important in our methods. The methods for first come first served(FCFS), last come first served(LCFS) queueing discipline are already developed in our previous work. In this paper, we extend to random selection for service(RSS) queueing discipline. The performance measures we used are mean queueing time and mean service time, the variances of two. The simulation results verify our proposed methods to infer queueing systems under RSS discipline.

  • A memory access method that data are read with different sequences with writing order is a simple but important procedure in many image compression standards, such as JPEG, MPEG1/2/4, H.264, and HEVC. For real time processing, double buffering is widely used using two block sized buffers, that accesses buffers concurrently with alternative way to read and write. In some cases like a transpose memory in 2D DCT with a simple and regular access order, a single buffering which requires only single block sized buffer can be used. This paper shows that even in complex access orders there is a regularity among updating orders within a finite turns, and suggested an effective implementation method using a single block sized buffer to process concurrent read/write operation with different access orders.

  • In order to provide explanations of the practice of the abductive inquiry-based outdoor geological fieldwork education, this study examined the characteristics of students' performance in geological fieldwork before and after the introduction of explicit learning of geologic knowledge and inquiry. To this end, a 21st-class program was developed in the order of pre-evaluation, initial fieldwork, explicit learning of geologic knowledge and inquiry, and post-evaluation and applied to nine middle school students. As research data, outdoor geological fieldwork class recording data and students' activity sheets were collected and analyzed qualitatively. As a result, during the initial fieldwork, students caught clues of low geological importance and used everyday experience and/or general scientific knowledge as a rule when asked to generate hypotheses about the origin of the clues. Also, students evaluated their hypotheses by the scientific accuracy of the rule or their own criterion. Meanwhile, during the final fieldwork, students frequently caught key clues in geologic perspectives and generated geological event hypotheses related to the clues by borrowing geologic knowledge as a rule. Furthermore, students scientifically evaluated their hypotheses based on the consistency of evidence and rules. Combining these results, the effects of learners' geological knowledge and inquiry (abduction) abilities as a path model were presented in order to help students carry out a proficient abductive inquiry in geological fieldwork.
