  • 최근 빅데이터를 처리하기 위한 고용량의 저장장치의 연구가 활발하게 진행되고 있다. 특히 낸드 플래시 메모리 기반 저장장치인 SSD(Solid State Drive)는 고속 데이터 처리가 가능하기 때문에 다양한 저장 시스템에서 사용되고 있다. 그러나 낸드 플래시 메모리는 읽기 속도가 빠르고 쓰기 속도가 느린 비대칭 구조를 가지고 있어 데이터 쓰기 작업이 진행 중일 때 다른 작업이 대기하게 되어 전체적인 시스템 성능에 영향을 미칠 수 있다. 이에 대해 대부분의 연구에서는 쓰기 성능을 개선하기 위한 버퍼 관리 정책들이 제안되었다. 기술의 발전으로 쓰기 성능은 개선되었지만, 그에 비해 읽기 성능이 저조한 문제가 있다. 본 논문에서는 읽기 성능이 쓰기 성능보다 취약한 점을 분석하고 플래시 메모리 내에 저장장치 속도를 개선하기 위해 앞으로 읽기 요청 가능성이 있는 예상 데이터를 선형회귀 모델을 적용하여 전송 대기 시간 중 미리 읽는 정책을 제안한다.

Comprehension Processes and Stuctures of Korean Relative Clause Sentence (한국어 관계절 문장의 이해 과정과 구조)

  • Based on the given data if three experiments that measured word-by-word reading times of the Korean relative-clause sentences,parsing strategies and performance structures in comprehending Korean sentences were suggested.First,results of the significantily longer reading time of nouns than verbs suggested that Korean parsing processing would be primarily occurred at nouns.Seond,four parsing strategies were proposed to explain increased reading times,working memory loads,and parallel function effects.Third,performance structures of sentence comprehension were constructed from the interword reading time differences.The proposed strategies and structures seem to account for the patterns of word-by-word reading times of the five types of the Korean relative-clause se various ideas for further experimentation were discussed.

Design of a Memory Management Policy Separating the Characteristics of Read and Write References (읽기 참조와 쓰기 참조의 특성을 구분하는 메모리 관리 정책의 설계)

  • Recently, a memory management strategy that utilizes read and write references separately is attracting attention. This is due to the emergence of new storage media with asymmetric read/write latencies and different read/write access characteristics of software. Existing research assumes that operating systems can differentiate between read/write references that occur on each memory page, but most memory architectures do not support a way to distinguish them. Unlike previous studies, this paper proposes a software method that reflects the read/write characteristics of page references by utilizing the reference and modified bits of each page. Simulations show that the proposed policy has almost similar effects to existing studies with hardware support.

The Effect of Color Filter on the Reading Ability in Teenager with Irlen-Syndrome (얼렌증후군에서 컬러필터가 읽기능력에 미치는 영향)

  • Purpose: The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of improving read speed with color filter or without color filter to improve reading disorder of teenager who were diagnosed as Meares-Irlen syndrome through survey inspection with Meares-Irlen syndrome visual stress (MISViS) score. Methods: MISViS subjects were selected from screening survey MISViS results given above 2.13 in the clinical criteria scores (MISViS score). Reading speed were measured quickly and efficiently the rate of reading via test in which randomly ordered common words are read aloud during a minute. Each of the subjects were worn a filter of the lowest concentration in each color filter group composed of 15 groups. Results: MISViS score of MISViS group and control group were 2.57 and 0.66, respectively. Results of reading speed with filter and without filter in MISViS group were $102.27{\pm}27.86$ wpm and $118.87{\pm}26.99$ wpm (p=0.001), respectively, as well as were $132.93{\pm}6.88$ wpm and $133.43{\pm}6.64$ wpm (p=0.131) in the normal group. Associated with error changes with filter and without filter between two groups, skipping in MISViS Group were from $0.25{\pm}0.62$ times to 0 times (p=0.191), Errors were from $1.83{\pm}1.69$ times to $0.17{\pm}0.38$ times (p = 0.004) and, repetitions were 0. skipping in control group were 0 times, errors were from $0.21{\pm}0.43$ times to $0.07{\pm}0.27$ times (p=0.336) and, repetitions were from $0.14{\pm}0.36$ times to 0 (p=0.165). The filter of blue series chosen in MISViS group had higher percentage (40%), whereas, subjects in normal group were more likely to prefer the filter of gray color (29%). Conclusions: This study showed that MISViS score have been used as a significant diagnosis for Irlen syndrome screening. This study found that wearing suitable color filter for MISViS patients were useful to improve learning with regard to reading. Unique color filter selection for MISViS subjects must be carefully considered since fit color filter are different personally.

Analysis of Reading Materials Presented in Chemistry and Science Textbooks and Survey on Utilization Reading Materials (화학 및 과학 교과서에 기술된 읽기자료 분석 및 활용도 조사)

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the reading materials in 7th curriculum and 2009 revised high school chemistry I textbook for identifying the problems of reading material presented in science textbooks and to investigate science teachers' recognition about utilization reading materials in science textbook. For this purpose, each four 7th curriculum and 2009 revised high school chemistry I textbook were analyzed according to the number of reading materials, the type of contents and the type of students' activities. In addition, the secondary school science teachers' recognition about utilization reading materials in science textbook was investigated. The results were as follows: First, anylizing reading materials in chemistry I textbooks showed that and the rate of reading materials were presented from 7.9 to 17.1% in 7th curriculum and from 20.6 to 28.2% in 2009 revised curriculum textbook. It implies that the rate of reading materials in 2009 revised textbooks increases more than those in 7th curriculum textbook. The result of analyzing the type of contents, 'life sciences' was the largest proportion with 34.3 % in the 7th curriculum chemistry I, but 'enrichment and supplement of knowledge' was the largest proportion with 23.7% in 2009 revised curriculum. Analyzing the type of student activities, only 13% of the reading materials in 7th National Curriculum textbook was found to be inquiry type, but 35% of the reading materials in the 2009 revised curriculum. appears to be inquiry type. It suggested that the curriculum objectives was reflected in the textbook. Second, investigating recognition of teachers' perceptions of utilization science textbooks, 67% teachers responded that they used the reading materials in their science class, but teachers who didn't use the reading materials was almost 33%. A large number of teachers responded that the reading materials associated with the real-life needed for integrated education and thought that the reading materials about 'life and science' should be included in the science textbooks.

An Analysis of International PR Campaign Cases for Revitalization of Reading Culture (읽기문화 활성화를 위한 해외 PR 캠페인 사례 분석)

  • The purpose of this study is to provide PR campaign strategies for revitalization of reading culture that are pertinent to Korean situation through analyzing successful international PR campaign cases of advanced countries in reading. For analyzing successful international PR campaign cases for revitalizing reading culture, this study selected four international PR campaign cases from Europe, North America, South America, and Oceania. In addition, this study analyzed the goals and objectives, strategies and tactics, and strengths and weaknesses of the selected PR campaigns in order to draw a way for establishing effective PR campaign strategies for expanding social support about reading culture and diffusing reading culture. According to the findings of this study, the selected PR campaigns are maximizing PR effect by getting attentions of news media and public through using unique and ingenious ideas, and utilizing convenience for public to participate PR campaign easily as a main PR strategy. Furthermore, the selected PR campaigns are improving public's participation in the PR campaign by targeting readers who usually like reading as a main target audience, and maximizing public's participation in the PR campaign by using interesting elements that are attracting attentions from the public.

COGNITIVE CHARACTERISTICS OF CHILDREN WITH DYSLEXIA AND/OR ATTENTION DEFICIT/HYPERACTIVITY DISORDER (읽기 장애 아동과 주의력 결핍/과잉 활동장애 아동의 인지적 특성)

  • The present study was conducted to investigate cognitive characteristics of children with dyslexia and/or attention deficit/hyperacidity disorder. Cognitive characteristics were evaluated by using KEDI-WISC, the Basic Achievement Test, TOVA, MFFT, and neuropsychological tests. ADHD group showed significantly lower level of performance in response time for correct responses and presented variability for correct responses in TOVA. Dyslexia and mixed group showed lower performance in Reading I and Reading II, Writing subtest in the Basic Achievement Test than those of ADHD group and in Information subtest of KEDI-WfSC. In order rd determine the diagnostic effectiveness of each psychological tests, discriminant analysis was conducted. In this analysis, 11 subtests of KEDI-WISC and 4 variables of TOVA, 4 subtests of the Basic Achievement Test, and MFFT, WCST were included as independent variables and each diagnostic roups were dependent variables. Discriminant analysis indicated that overall percentage of correct classification was 93.88%. The clinical implifications and limitations of the present study were listed and discussed.

Effect of syllable complexity on the visual span of Korean Hangul reading and its relation to reading abilities (한글 글자 유형이 시각 폭과 읽기 능력에 미치는 영향)

  • The visual span refers to the number of letters that can be accurately recognized without moving one's eyes. The size of the visual span is affected by sensory factors such as perimetric complexity, crowding, and mislocation of letters. Korean Hangul utilizes rather unique alphabetic-syllabary writing system, quite different from English and Chinese writing systems. Due to this combinatorial nature of the script, the visual span for Hangul characters can also be affected by the letter type (e.g., CV vs CVCC). The present study examined the effect of syllable complexity on the visual span for Hangul by comparing letter recognition accuracy across four letter type conditions (C only, CV, CVC, and CVCC). We also aimed to determine the meaningful letter type(s) that is associated with differences in reading abilities in Korean. Using a trigram presentation method, we found that overall recognition accuracy declined as syllable complexity increased. However, the visual span for CVC type was greater than that for CV type, suggesting that the effect is not necessarily linear, and that there might be other factors affecting the visual span for these types of letters. C and CV type showed fairly strong positive correlations with reading comprehension, suggesting that these might be the meaningful units for measuring visual span in relating to reading abilities.

Presbyopic Spectacle and Monovision for Reading Performance Before Adaptation (노안안경과 모노비젼 콘택트렌즈 착용 후 적응 전 읽기 능력 평가)

  • Purpose: Eye movements and fixation ability are an important procedure to obtain external information and essential means of clear vision. The purpose of this study was to determine the reading performance such as reading time and number of fixations when random text was viewed at varying distances. Methods: Twenty two presbyopes were participated. All subjects were screened for their suitability to participate in the study by clinical examination, and none of the participants had previously worn contact lenses and no previous experience of wearing any types of presbyopic vision correction except single vision. The reading time and number of fixations were recorded using eye tracker while each subjects was waring four vision corrections which included single vision for distance (SV), bifocal spectacle lenses (BIF), progressive addition lenses (PAL), and monovision (MV). The reading material was presented at distance and near distance. Results: Reading time and number of fixations for near stimulus were significantly different among vision correction used in this study (p<0.001). In particular, wearing SV required longer reading time and produced longer fixation duration for near text. However, reading distance text was similarity performed across vision corrections tested and there was no statistical difference found for either reading time and number of fixations. Conclusions: Wearing presbyopic vision correction is advantageous for reading task of near stimuli, but not having near correction such as wearing SV could result in longer reading time and higher number of fixation due to lacks of accommodative ability for near task. For the future studies, it would be interesting to examine the performance of reading both at adapted and unadapted stages as examining only unadapted wearers was limitation of this study.

Analysis of the Reading Materials in the Chemistry Domain of Elementary School Science and Middle School Science Textbooks and Chemistry I and II Textbooks Developed Under the 2009 Revised National Science Curriculum (2009 개정 초등학교와 중학교 과학 교과서의 화학 영역 및 화학 I, II 교과서의 읽기자료 분석)

  • In this study, the characteristics of the reading materials in the chemistry domain of elementary school science and middle school science textbooks and chemistry I and II textbooks developed under the 2009 Revised National Science Curriculum were investigated. The criteria for classifying the reading materials were the types of theme, purpose, types of presentation, and students' activity. The inscriptions in the reading materials were also analyzed from the viewpoint of type, role, caption and index, and proximity type. The results indicated that more reading materials were included in the elementary science textbooks compared to middle school science, chemistry I, and/or chemistry II textbooks. The percentage of application in everyday life theme was high in the reading materials of elementary science textbooks, whereas the percentage of scientific knowledge theme was high in those of middle school science, chemistry I, and/or chemistry II textbooks. It was also found that the percentage of expanding concepts purpose was high in the reading materials of elementary science textbooks, whereas the percentage of supplementing concepts purpose was high in those of middle school science, chemistry I, and/or chemistry II textbooks. Several limitations in the use of inscriptions were found to exist; most inscriptions were photograph and/or illustration; most inscriptions were supplementing or elaborating texts; many inscriptions were presented without a caption or an index; there was a problem in the proximity of inscriptions to text.
