In this study, wireless measurement technique for human motion was developed to monitor movement disorder patients during their daily life. MICA, TinyOS, and nesC, developed by UC Berkeley, were used as wireless sensor, its software platform, and programming language. The human motion data, generated by two axial accelerometer(ADXL202) was transmitted to PDA(iPaq3630) by 916Mhz short range communication chip(TR1000). It could be stored at PDA by simple Windows CE programming. To test the developed device, it was attached at human chest and the acquired data was shown as a graph during his motion of sitting, standing, and lying. The result showed that human motion could be logged without any hooking and constraints. Therefore, this device can be used to monitor patient's movement disorder and activity of daily life(ADL).
This study investigated the effects of dual task training on balance, upper extremity motor function and activities of daily living in patients with chronic stroke. The study subjects were 14 chronic stroke patients. dual task training groups(n=7), and single task training groups(n=7). The intervention period was conducted for 3 times a week, 30 minutes per session, and 4 weeks for all groups. To measure the BT4, JTT, K-MBI were used before and after the intervention. Dual task training groups showed a significant increase in BT 4 and JTT scores(p<.05). The difference between the two groups was significant in the BT4 and JJT scores(p<.05). There was a score improvement in K-MBI, but there was no statistically significant difference(p>.05) Dual task training was effective in facilitating balance, upper extremity function and activities of daily living in patients with chronic stroke.

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of aquatic ramp walking exercise on the activity of the quadriceps, gait and activity of daily living in child with Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) type II. A 5 years-old girl with SMA type II participated in this study. This study used single-subject reverse(A-B-A) design study. There are 12 sessions(4weeks 3 times a week) each during the baseline phase(A), the intervention phase(B), the follow up phase(A). During the baseline phase and the follow up phase performed general aquatic therapy, the intervention phase additional performed walking activity on ramp in pool (60m). Surface electromyogram, Timed Up and Go (TUG) test, ACTIVLIM were used as outcome. During the intervention phase, there were decrease on the activity of the quadriceps. In modified TUG test, gait time reduced during the intervention phase. The ACTIVLIM logit score increased during intervention phase by comparison with the baseline phase. These findings suggest that an aquatic ramp walking exercise activities have the therapeutic possibility on the quadriceps activity and gait ability for child with SMA type II.

In this paper, we present a daily activity monitoring system by using a wireless sensor network. The proposed system is installed in glove for activity monitoring. The RFID reader, to send data by using sensor network platform and RFID tag are small size, the shape of quadrangle, and operate in the frequency of 13.56 MHz. The sensor node can read RFID tags on the various objects used in daily living such as furniture, medicines, and kitchenwares. The sensor node reads the data of RFID tags, it transmits wireless packets to the sink node. The sink node sends the received packet immediately to a server system. The data from each RFID system is collected into a database, and then the data are processed to visualize the measurement of daily living activities of users. We provide a web-based monitoring system, and can see the number of RFID tag readings per day as bar charts. The result of experiments demonstrates that the way we propose can help to check the situation of life for people who live alone.

Sit-to-stand movement is a basic movement in daily activities. On the basis of this movement, the biomechanical functions of a person can be evaluated. The study of the joint kinematics, moment, and muscle coordination is necessary to understand the characteristics of the sit-to-stand movement. We have developed a motion-based program for inverse dynamics analysis and the electromyogram-based program for muscle force prediction. The joint kinematics and the kinetic results estimated on the basis of obtained motion data, ground reaction force, and electromyogram signals were compared with those reported in previous studies, and the muscle forces determined by the two methods were compared with each other. The methods and programs developed in this study can be used to understand biomechanics and muscle coordination involved in basic movements in daily activities.
